I put on a lot of weight visiting Mexico, the easy coast and Asia.
Time to lay down the law. Did a 36 hour fast. 3 nice keto meals. Now in day 5 of another fast.
Planning what to eat when it's over. I'm thinking a steak dinner.

Nope, Philly Cheesesteak Factory. It is a little hole in the wall place in a gas station on Pecos and Patrick. Very good Philly's.

I am cheap on a day to day basis but I do splurge for things that I like.
I think I noticed that, and mentioned it when I saw you.Quote: Rigondeaux

I hear that's what happens with that keto diet and fasting.

It has NOTHING to do with keto
or fasting. When you lose weight
a fat cell empties itself. But that
fat cell never goes away, it stays
there forever waiting to be refilled
with fat. Doesn't have a thing to
do with how you lost weight, how
could it. A fat cell is a fat cell..

I enjoy walking through the area with the waterfall and robot animals. Parking is free and easy.
The steak is not as good as a great strip place but significantly cheaper.
Great creamed spinach. Cleaver and beet salads are good. Rather than steak I recommended the steak au povre with potato chips, which absolutly must be eaten with creamed spinach.
It's under $30 as is the salmon, my other rec. Lemon and mushrooms. One of the best salmon dishes I've had.

I've seen that place and wondered. I'll give it a try one day.
And some more NYC cuisine, a drink called Egg Cream
which contains no egg or cream.
I’m probably going to try both since they are so easy to make. The egg cream sounds kind of horrible though.
The lime Ricky looked far better.

Egg cream is a delightful thing. Outside NYC they usually call it a chocolate soda.

I grew up drinking them. Some places put too much U-Bet chocolate syrup in. I'd ask for extra seltzer to cut the sweetness.
Now I want to keep building muscle in the gym while still cutting some body fat, so around Christmas day I decided to start tracking my macros. Great day to start, lol.
My goal is to be around 2800 calories per day with 200g of protein. This is actually pretty tough using just whole foods, but with 2-3 servings of protein powder sprinkled through the day, it's achievable. Also achievable with lots of chicken breast and/or lean fish, but my wife plans the menu and while we eat a fair bit of chicken breast, it's not on the menu every day. Also she hates fish.
Most bodybuilders/weightlifters go through cutting and bulking cycles, but I'm not interested in that. It's probably easier than what I'm doing, but I'm going for slow, sustained fat loss while building muscle. It's hard, but I'm hoping by paying close attention to my nutrition I can make it happen. Just one reference: https://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/lose-weight-and-build-muscle-or-do-one-then-the-other/
Based on my initial estimate, 2800 calories should be about a 200 calorie deficit. We'll see how it pans out, as I've only been at it for about 2 weeks. So far I have discovered that I can easily consume 5000 calories in a day if I'm boozing and eating dessert. But at 2800 I'm not that hangry. If I'm not losing fat at this level I could eat fewer calories - I estimate for most of the past 7 months I have been around 2500 calories and not enough protein.
I am using the FitBit app to track, as I am already in their ecosystem. When you are eating everything off a shelf with a UPC code, it's super easy. But when you make a lot of foods at home from scratch, and you are not the one cooking, it gets into a lot of SWAG'ing (SWAG = scientific wild-ass guess). So I'm estimating on both ends...estimating my TDEE and the deficit I need to run, and estimating a lot of my food intake. As someone who likes to be precise it is very frustrating!
popular in NYC. My take on it..
2 sweet potatoes, 2 MoW entrees, banana to celebrate the arrival of my dumbbell set.

Egg creams are pretty hard to find these days, as ice cream shops and soda fountains have gone the way of the passenger pigeon.
Quote: billryanhave gone the way of the passenger pigeon.
Talk about food. There were billions
of passenger pigeons in the Plains
states. When a flock passed overhead
they blotted out the sun. They flew
close to the ground, to catch some
for dinner just toss a net into air
and you could snag half a dozen.
They got really tired of eating them
and they destroyed crops and crapped
everywhere, so they were hunted to
extinction.

I would be very happy if we did that with old people in this country. Open season on anyone over 65 years old.

in one big move. What a brilliant idea.

She doesn't cook and we don't
live together anyway. All good
cooking is labor intensive, that's
the point. Food is one of the few
things in life we know we'll get

processed food when you don't
have to.
I had what they call a 'fish Reuben' with the onion. Broiled, not fried, haddock smothered in sauerkraut, Russian Dressing and of course melted Swiss. The textures were a tad off but quite a tasty mess.

Follow the instructions:
1. Layer ingredients in a crock pot in the order given. Empty one packet of taco seasoning directly onto the chicken and add the second packet after all the remaining ingredients have been added.
2. Cook on low 6-8 hours.
3. Stir, shredding chicken as you mix ingredients.
4. Serve with: tortillas (try whole wheat), salsa, guacamole, and sliced fruit as a side dish.

I'm curious. Does the 'pub carvery' exist in the same format, and is it as popular in the States? Especially with the Yorkshire Pudding or 'Yorkie'?
In the UK, the 'pub carvery' is a popular format for cheap and cheerful dining out. Especially popular in and around provincial towns. It's NOT fine dining, but extremely popular. Nothing fancy!
Almost always comprises of a few slices of the diners choice of carved roast meat and a yorkshire pudding counter served on a plate and then loaded up by the diner with unlimited self served vegetables and gravy. Normally the diner carries the meal to his own table. Waiting staff only deal with clearing the table and serving dessert and drinks.
At this pub, the meal is available as small, medium or large. The only difference is the size of the plate and price, so I had 'Small' 12" plate and piled it pretty high with veg.
Tonight, mine comprised Roast pork, Yorkshire pudding, Big mound of roast potatoes, roast parsnips, leeks in cheese sauce, carrots, stuffing and gravy. Washed down with a large glass of tonic water with black-current cordial. Usually, the drink would be a pint of bitter.
* Here in England, we common folk refer to the main early evening meal as 'tea' rather than 'dinner'. We call the lunch-time meal 'dinner'.
How does the price of provincial cheap family dining out compare? £6.99 = $9.15
Note the obligatory bottle of malt vinegar on the table for anyone who opts for fish and chips or burger and chips.
I ate a gas station hot dog today and probably won't eat again until lunch tomorrow.
I have seen mention of 'carvery' on this forum, but usually in the context of Irish or English themed pubs.Quote: DRichNever heard of Pub Carvery. Unless you go to a specific English or Irish pub we almost never see Yorkshire pudding.

Sorry, EB but the soup doesn't look too appetising. Reminded me of unblocking the u-bend under my sink.

Egg and cheese in a waffle maker.

Yeaterdays dinner was small salad with tbls of ranch, t bone steak, broccoli with butter and garlic, and sauteed mushrooms.

I mistyped. It was T-Bone, not rib eye. I am not a big steak eater. If I order one I usually order the cheapest because I dont know the difference between the expensive and cheap so I could order the expensive one and be served the cheap one and woulnd know.
So it was tbone for 5.49. Not sure if that is still a good price. You get screwed on the weight because of the big ass bone
