Where is the best place to park? Convenience is our top priority. We will be coming from the Strip. I've been told that our GPS will direct us to the parking decks of any casino. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Maybe, maybe not. I would Check local downtown Casinos on the Internet, and Mapquest it, to be safe.

When I go downtown for the Freemont experience, I park at the California Hotel and Casino, to keep it simple and easy.

1. Go NORTH on Las Vegas Blvd or Maryland Parkway to OGDEN Ave, make left onto OGDEN Ave (one block past Freemont St.)
2. Go to 1st Street, make a right on 1st Street to the California's parking lot (on the left);
get free parking ticket.
3. Go up the ramps and park on the 3rd, 4th or 5th floor, as the valet uses the lower floor. Elevator down to casino floor by registration...
4. Enter in the casino and get the ticket stamped (validated) at the registration desk.

You got four Hours of free parking, one block north of Freemont Street. Plenty of time for the Freemont street experience, and food and shopping.

Thanks for the excellent directions. This sounds like what we are looking for. I'll try it this weekend.

You can also park at Binion's for, I think, four hours as well. They have a validation machine right next to the cashier's. You don't have to actually gamble at Binion's in order to stamp your ticket. The biggest problem with Binion's is that their parking lot gets full fairly quickly.

I don't know if this will work or not, as I haven't tried it in a long time. There is a steak house on the 24th floor of Binion's. (Personally, I think the food is OK, but not worth the price.) It used to be that if you made a reservation at the steak house, you could use the Binion's Hotel valet to park your car. Even if the valet was full, you could still drop your car off at the valet. The best part was that you could make the reservation at the steak house, use the valet, and then not go to the steak house. That, I only did one time.

Anyway, it may not work anymore, but it was fun to do back in the day.

I always park at the Main Street Station absolutely free, easy access, convenient and safe parking lot.

I generally use the Binion's garage, as suggested by konceptum. I have never encountered it full -- actually I have always been able to find a spot in the section where I am driving the spiral upward; on departure, you cross a bridge to another section to spiral down, and the upper levels there always seem to have a lot of open spaces. The two problems I see are (1) that second section is a long way from the elevator down into Binion's and (2) that elevator is small, extremely slow, and often out of service. I have taken the stairs many a time.

I once parked in the California garage, because it was raining. I was really headed to Main Street and didn't want to walk outdoors, so I took the bridge from the California. I didn't know the other parking facilities well enough to know what the not-get-rained-on options were.

Final comment: I have no ideas about the relative safety of any of the downtown parking facilities.

Binion's shut their 400 room hotel down, so they always have space.

The Plaza and the Vegas Club both have covered parking,as does Binion's, the Vegas Club fills up faster, is free, no validation needed.
The Plaza charges you $5 to park, but then it is refunded at the casino cage, no validation or time limit.

As to safety, I have never had a problem, but I make sure I know what and who are around me. Unless you park at the El Cortez. another covered parking, but not a very nice area!

I second the Vegas Club recommendation. Pretty empty, in the center of everything, and no val.

I generally valet when I'm downtown, either at MSS or Golden Nugget. MSS is so easy to get in and out and they're never busy at the valet. Their self parking is quite easy too, and it's connected indoors to the Cal.

I parked once at Binion's, got the stamp, but I had been there 8 hours and got charged $10 (or more, I don't remember). I haven't parked there again.

Valet downtown, I call that gambling.

I will not name the hotels, but I have used valet service at all downtown hotels, something was moved on the console and in the glove box. I had nothing of value but someone still looked!
