Sailed on the Norwegian Spirit out of Canaveral last Thanksgiving. First time on that line, Nassau and 2 Virgin Island stops. Didn't care for the dining. Was ship's 1st US cruise, fresh in from the Meditteranean, maybe that was part of it. It's a smaller ship 2000 guests. The new Escape out of Miami (similar to Epic at 4000 guests), was in each port with us, and our ship looked like a toy docked next to it;-!Quote: beachbumbabs2F,
Get on the Norwegian Epic out of Port Canaveral (you said a while back you hadn't decided which cruise). By far the best casino on the water anywhere, great water park up top for the kids .
The casino was OK, BJ $5 min, $500 max, 3:2, H17, no surrender, hand shuffle 6 or 8 decks. I didn't bring much cash, didn't do a LOC since I had recently, accidentally, left my entire bankroll in Cherokee (cough). I got up a couple K, then went down bout 500, then finished up a couple hundred and drank a bit of their scotch, so no complaints. They charged me the 3% fee on the advance I needed to get back in the game which pissed me off a little.
Got refundable reservations on Carnival (Magic) and Royal Caribbean (Oasis) for this year. Sparkles talked to Norwegian by phone but they didn't offer much. I haven't tried drilling down into their Casino Mgt yet, maybe I'll work on that today. You never know if you don't try ;-)
Talked to several knowledgeable cruisers on the Spirit that said Norwegian was by far their favorite line. I just start up conversation with complete strangers all the time, imagine that ;-) One of those was a WSOP guy, home casino Windsor, that was down for a stop on the tour the next week on the Escape. I forget his name. Just that one sailing on Norwegian for me, but I was not overly impressed.
Sometimes I need to remind myself that not having one of those, I'm spared from many ordeals.Quote: TwoFeathersATLBut there was a little bit of my soul.
You already sold your's?Quote: FleaStiffSometimes I need to remind myself that not having one of those, I'm spared from many ordeals.
Wiz win it in a wager? ....;-)
<Edit> It is not obvious from my post but FleaStiff was referring to his soul, or lack thereof. Just for reference.
Yes.Quote: GWAEWhat are you trying to get from the casino on a ship? Are you vetting them from free play, suites, upgrades?
You had $6 play? Which ship, which port? I've seen $6 play on Carnival (Fun21 I think it was, game sucks, IMO, but table always packed).Quote: GWAEafter our cruise last year I have not received a single piece of mail from norwegian. I guess my $6 BJ play was not good enough for them.

Yeah, you need to call Casinos at Sea, not Norwegian itself. I get free cruises from them all the time thru CAS. Norwegian bookers can't offer them. You can mention your status with Harrah's, or even have your CET host help with the booking if you didn't play much last time.
FWIW, I was on the Spirit in 2004, enjoyed it a lot as my first Norwegian cruise, but Epic is a much better boat, and the casino's 3x larger.
Quote: teddysCan we have the next WoV meetup on a (comped) cruise? I think that would be fun.
Oh, that's a great idea! Let's figure it out well in advance and do it.
I would hate to have to pull a Mod thing on you, but really, the Epic is a ship, not a boat. Last time Sparkles called Norwegian they just gave us a free cruise, yeah interior cabin which we upgraded and added another couple staterooms too. There had been some promotion at Harrah's going on where if you played on any one of 4 Wednesdays in the month of whatever they would give you a 'free cruise' on Norwegian. That has been written about before on the forums, several wrote they took advantage of the offer. I did not run to a Harrah's on a Wed that month, but a couple months later they have us the offer anyway, by phone, not sure if it was thru Norwegian bookers, or CAS bookers, or some other hookers. My memory is failing, and I suspect the rate is accelerating.Quote: beachbumbabsYeah, you need to call Casinos at Sea, not Norwegian itself. I get free cruises from them all the time thru CAS. I'll be on the Victory in June out of Canaveral, I'll let you know when, when I figure out when, if I remember;-)

2F, We were on the NCL Dawn. .Mins were $6. Would had to either play $6 on the hand or $5 on hand and $1 on side. I think that is what they wanted you to do.

If it floats it is a duck or a boat.
Invite all the darksiders.Quote: teddysCan we have the next WoV meetup on a (comped) cruise? I think that would be fun.
Nowhere to run.
I hear people accidentally fall overboard and get lost at sea all the time.

Honestly, your postings almost made me cry. The winter's been so f#$%ed I can't get a read on the trout run at all. Can't, and I won't, as I just don't have the time. We're balls deep into April and I've wet a line but once, and that was for just 40 minutes. Most years I'd have had 20-30 trips under my belt by now =,(
I'm hoping beyond hope that my car will cooperate and I can get out of the garage. If my current plan holds up, I should be able to get out in that magical time when the trout run ends and the smallmouth begins, which is just weeks away. But what will happen is my car will continue to be a whore (whore is in the Bible, right?) and I'll be wrenching straight through September.
I dunno. Not looking good. Please do feel free to continue TR's from the water. I'll take vicarious over vacuous any day =/
Life is but life, some is more fun than some other parts.
Try to go fishing, but if she tackles and threatens you, then just go with the flow.....

What about the new truck you bought after yours blew up and an idiot dealer wouldn't buy it, after first saying he would?

Lol, "new to me", but still got her. I haven't seen the mileage in forever on account of the warning messages, but if it didn't just cross 150k, it'll be there by the end of the month. Runs like a dream, too. Just needs new rotors and pads, smooth as butter.
The car is some s@#$box I pulled out of a field some years back and now race short track oval with. It's an '89 Honda, in NY, with 250k on it. Naturally, it's always needing something.
Always.
ALWAYS.

All I can say is yesterday I sold a 12 year old Dodge Neon with 86k miles on it. It ran like a dream. Maybe Dodge's are better than Honda's, or maybe my mechanic knows what he is doing.

Holy mackerel, you're on a tear today! Just say "imperial > metric" and you'll have collected the full set of my pushable buttons.
12yr old Dodge havin', livin' in Vegas, ain't never climbed a hill over 10' its whole life, only gets wet when you wash it with 80k, comparing it to a car over twice its age, with three times the miles, getting pounded by salt and potholes and yutes...
Whatever. My car is faster.
I got a 1997 Chevy, and a 2006 Toyota.
What you got there, big boy?
Yeah, the nugget thing is getttin' old. Just 2F
Putting that money towards a new Gayata?Quote: DRichAll I can say is yesterday I sold a 12 year old Dodge Neon with 86k miles on it. It ran like a dream. Maybe Dodge's are better than Honda's, or maybe my mechanic knows what he is doing.

I agree with you on that one. The metric system makes complete sense.

It seems I am "always" working on my rigs as well; that is by choice.
It is satisfying to see tangible results of my labors, which save me a lot of money and lets me know the work was done correctly.
I like older Volvos, and regularly work on and maintain a 244 , a 740, and a 940, all Turbos, as well as assist with the maintenance of my son's 850R and his wife's V70.
When kept up these are great cars.
My dad never lifted a wrench on his cars, so I came late to auto repair and am self-taught; one of my better accomplishments has been to teach my son to work on cars.

I am a Volvo believer, MrV. I've never owned one for myself, but I bought a co-worker's used 1994 (well maintained) one for my niece's 16th birthday in 2008 for $1500 with about 150K miles already on it (sorry, can't recall the model; 4 door basic car with huge trunk). Had her older brother drive it up there for her. It was green, so she named it Gimli, and sent a cute picture of her and 4 of her friends sitting in the trunk like it was a hot tub as a thank you.
Two months later, she made a bad decision to left turn fast across traffic from a divided highway onto gravel, so accelerated hard into it, caught the soft gravel shoulder, and went thru a ditch, thru a fence, and slammed into an old oak tree head-on. Car: totaled, accordioned, gawd-awful picture. Her: not a scratch. Amazing. Very thankful I still have her. And VERY thankful to Volvo. Perfect learning-driver car.
Edit: Looks like it was a 740. And I'm told there were 6 people in the trunk, not 5; one is lying down behind or otherwise blocked.
Tee-Hee-Hee. Turns out if you work at it a little, and you get a little lucky, and you get just the right guy/gal on the phone, the ones that you aren't supposed to be able to reach by phone, weird jhit can happen. I just bought a cruise line on an IOU.Quote: beachbumbabsYeah, you need to call Casinos at Sea, not Norwegian itself. I get free cruises from them all the time thru CAS. That's not right. Typo. I got a deal, a really good deal, and an offer for additional assistance on additional staterooms. Sometimes I get lucky, sometimes.
Sparkles is dancing round here like she's 10 years younger, and she was already 10 years too young for me. I may live to see this cruise, I may not. I am not afraid, much... 2F
He is still looking for his niche ; ]Quote: DRichAs long as we have someone else handle the engine maintenance. :)
I worked on my porch for about 6 hours today. I busted my ass and are now exhausted. So of course now I sit on the recliner with an ice cold pepsi. The question, would it be "healthier" to drink a 16 ounce bottle of pepsi or a 16 punch bottle of bud light. They are pretty close in calories but I would think pepsi has a ton more sugar.
Or scotch.
I guess a lot of people drink Bud Light, there's aways a big display at the store, at every store.
Bud Light comes with asst levels of 'punch'? I thought it was all like 3 or 4 % ;-)
Quote: FaceMore calories and sugar in sody pop, but the difference is minimal.
But would alcohol be the better choice?
On another note. My mind is blown. Just watched the blacklist from last week. It is my favorite show and I didn't see last week's twist coming. Never thought they would do it, I wonder where thr show will go from there.
Quote: IbeatyouracesGet Gatorade.
The question is kinda backwards. I am not asking what should I drink to be healthy. I am asking which bad drink is better. While working today I drank 1 32 ounce Gatorade and 8 or 9 bottles of water. Normally I would use my 42 ounce water bottle but our Brita needs a new filter so I stuck with bottle water.
Once I am done busting my ass I like to relax with a nice drink. Normally I just grab a pepsi but I am really trying to curb my pepsi addiction so I thought maybe a beer was better. If they are basically the same then I would rather just stick with a pepsi.
P.S. I don't drink alcohol, so I'd choose the Pepsi.
Other than coffee and water, which are my usual beverages, when I want something a bit special I opt for Florida's Natural orange juice, with most pulp.
Delicious.
Quote: MrVBoth are bad choices, in my opinion.

You worked hard, got in your exercise for the day. I just got finished myself. I would still recommend scotch, but I'm prejudiced. And a Bigot. Neither of which trouble me too much ;-)Quote: MrVBoth are bad choices, in my opinion.

I mean, 6hrs of porchin' on a 70* day, you should already have 12-18 beers in you. This whole thing is borked from the jump ;)
