I knew you would know. I was going to PM you but I was too lazy.
But this is the miscellaneous thread, right? Was just out on my deck. Between me and the hedge just 15 ft or so away, out of the sunlight, I could actually see the pine pollen swirling like a snow blizzard. I know my truck is now yellow, deck yellow, everything is yellow, but I have never noticed the 'yellow' swirling around like snow, very small snowflakes. Was supposed to rain today, didn't. Maybe tomorrow some of the yellow will wash downstream. Do the oysters in Appalachicola bay actually feed on pine pollen? I hope so. I like oysters, and there's got to be something positive out of this annual yellow mess.... I just looked in the mirror, I'm yellow.

I did offer to just do it. It was only a 4 Hour ordeal to save 3k in comps, but she wouldn't let me do it for free.
$150? Lucky you, considering all's Kenty ever got from his mom was is ass beat for giving himself a bad hair cut.Quote: GWAESo my mom called this afternoon and said her RCs expire on thursday. Quote: TwoFeathersATLGoin' fishing. Not worth a thread of it's own so posting here, in Gwae's thread. Saltwater fishing, some headboat, some pier, some beach. Sorted thru all the gear, got everything labeled and accounted for, took hours to complete the task. Headed for Destin FL tomorrow early, took me 20 minutes to pack clothes, 20 hours to sort and prioritize fishing gear. So I'm taking 5 rods and 4 reels, leaving the big rod/reel at home this time, cannot see a chance to use it this time. Oh, I should have said, I'm taking the wife and kids down to the beach for the kid's school's 'spring break'. I might get to fish a little, I might not. Aside from bait I'm prepared ;-)

Try the pier at Ft Walton, Spanish mackerel (and fishermen) should be plentiful. Better yet, an inshore charter. The next world record Cobia will come within 20 miles east or west of the Destin pass. 10 to 20 ft of water just outside the second bar.
Staying only 1/4 mile from the pier, have fished there several dozen times w/o alot of success. Have caught a few Spanish. Buds with the crew on at least one of the party boats ( they pick me out in a crowd, at night, down at the docks (( good tipper)). Like the bottom fishing party boats, been out on, been out maybe 20 times in Destin over last 10 years. Plus another 20 from other towns;-) Got to go see the boats leave now....Quote: Sabretom2Try the pier at Ft Walton, Spanish mackerel (and fishermen) should be plentiful. Where was this? Did you have to stay overnight for a trial? In our state they only sequester people on a rare occasion. I am 36 and have never had jury duty or even been called for it. I swear to god if there is a letter in my mailbox when I get home I will be pissed.
dutyQuote: Gabes22I have been asked to attend jury duty once. We got paid $17 and my two options of getting there were either drive down there and pay $25 to park or to take a train down there which was $15 round trip with a fee to park at the train station. Any other paying entity would be subject to minimum wage laws. Why is this the exception to those laws?
Voting districts are supposed to be updated much more frequently.
And ten dollars a day for jury service was great when that was the average workers wage.
The Clerk of the Courts doesn't validate your parking for jury duty??? That sucks!Quote: Gabes22I have been asked to attend jury duty once. For my jurisdiction, they send out summons to cover all cases pending for that week months in advance. Many (most?) cases are settled/bargained before they reach the courtroom. So, the potential jurors summoned for these cases aren't needed, and thus excused by "the machine."Quote: RSWhat the f***? I have to guess that of the people there, most wouldn't think of going to work for less than $200 or more per work day, with full benefits too. But you could tell everybody wanted that money. In fact, it was almost as if perspective was lost, since we don't see the money we earn daily ... like it seemed a nice chunk of money to those same folks until they thought about it
Quote: odiousgambitI had jury duty in Arlington Co. VA a couple of times, and they paid you $30 in cash each day you had to show up [never got picked]

Many workplaces, including the one I retired from, pay your base wage (per day) while you serve. You have to sign back the jury pay in return. But they don't want you losing income, and they want to support their employees performing their civic duty.

Very nice. One of the companies I work with requires employees to use vacation days if they want to get paid for that time.
Saw a guy fighting a big fish on the pier on Wed, thru binoculars from 2 resorts away. Watched him off and on for 30 minutes, should have walked down there but didn't know I had that much time ;-( Some others helped get a couple of rope gaffs on it and hauled it in, Cobia or shark, couldn't tell from that distance. Fished there that evening, yep 75 lb Cobia!Quote: Sabretom2Try the pier at Ft Walton, Spanish mackerel (and fishermen) should be plentiful. Better yet, an inshore charter. Went down to Sextons to get some shrimp to cook for dinner on Thurs, was looking at the Cobia as well, 21.99/lb, lady asked did I want some. Said no, just checking the price to figure out how much that 75 pounder was worth that I saw caught yesterday. She said she could beat that, whipped out her phone and showed me a video from a couple days earlier of a 20ish guy on a 25 ft center consol by himself trying to land a 80.2 lb'er by himself, another boat nearby was videoing. Other boat wound up pulling over, jumped one of their guys over to help him land it. Made the front page of the Destin Log (paper). I was looking at the fillets from THAT Cobia at Sextons. BTW, caught just past the second bar, off Henderson State park, just east of Destin.
I did manage to get out on a short bottom fishing trip with my buddies on the American Spirit on Friday, no one was running long trips ;-( Caught 2 undersized AJ's ( they have to be 34 in long starting this year (30 last), half a dozen Red Snapper(out of season) none of them as big as 10 lbs, but still fun to fight. Also a couple of just undersized Triggerfish (min 14 inches this year), the boat prolly threw back 40 'just undersized' Triggerfish this trip to only wind.up keeping 8 or so. I spent most of my time fishing with larger gear and hooks without much success but did swap over here and there to catch a stringer of Vermillion Snapper (AKA Mingos, and Beeliners), and a few White Snapper (silly name, they are actually in the Grunt family of fish).
Had AJ's Restuarant cook up some of them for me for dinner at their new location AJ's Oyster Shanty on Santa Rosa Blvd ( the old Fudpuckers location ). They've done a good job renovating the place, the fish was tasty.
My longer trip on Thurs onboard the Sweet Jody canceled due to high seas (sigh). Wife and kids had a good time for the week, we ran into a number of friends by accident, it's a small world.
So Orlando and Daytona in June, Port Canaveral cruise for Thanksgiving, so at least a couple more fishing opportunities this year. Soliciting offers from the ship's casinos of three Lines for that Thanksgiving trip. So far Carnival (Oasis) has insulted me, I may have to suspend them, but waiting to see the other responses before I tell them to kiss off ;-)
May have to run down to Destin by myself in June for Red Snapper season, they are a ton of fun to catch, and the guys I fish with treat me very, very well. Cheers, 2F
(Edit) two things. The nicest fish caught on The Spirit was a 20 lb Gag Grouper (out of season till July). I caught the last fish of the day, when we were supposed to reeling in I headed for the bottom for one last quick pull, landed the smallest Red Snapper I have ever seen. Couldn't have been 6 inches long, would've looked nice in my aquarium ;-) The crew will still be ribbing me about that one years from now if I live that long.
When you do the bottom trip in June, ask the crew if they'd mind free lining for King. It's always fun to hear the line sing.
Quote: DRichVery nice. One of the companies I work with requires employees to use vacation days if they want to get paid for that time.
That's illegal. At least in Nevada.
Edit: nevermind, skipped the "if they want to get paid for the time".
I've watched others free lining, I know what you mean. I had one set-up right under the boat with live bait for Cobia, and was swapping between two others for big and little fish on the bottom, occasionally both at once. These guys like me (I tip well), but I'm hesitant to push my luck too far ;). If I had four set-ups out at once, knowing my luck, they'd all go off simultaneously. Plus, I've caught some Kings on the bottom, yes on the bottom, and hooked Bonita on the way to the bottom. I've just given the Kings away since I don't know how to cook them, smoke them, eat them. Usually a 3 way swap. The guys from Kentucky take the King, tip an extra 2 green to the crew, and I magically wind up with more than the regulatory amount of some other fishes in my cooler. I don't know how it all works out EV wise......Quote: Sabretom2Just keep in mind 2f, any day on the water is not counted against your total.

If I remember right, a 5 year old turkey [or something similar] is a really, really old turkey. I think you better be prepared for more heartbreak.
My heart has been broken so many times I'm surprised it still registers on the instruments during my annual physical. But there was a little bit of my soul invested in a pretty special little turkey. Wild Turkeys have become a problem in parts of Staten island and the Bronx in NYC.
It started out with well meaning people feeding a pair of birds.
Now, their flocks block traffic, and they will attack during the Spring mating season.
The City moved some of them upstate, but they multiply quickly.

the 'toms' get mighty arrogant
most wildlife suffers instead of benefits from being fed by humans, especially if the process acclimates them to humans. It's nonetheless a strong instinct with humans to do this, just observe how delighted kids are when they can feed whatever.
I've tried to tell 2F this before to no avail. *sigh*

Heavily developed North Fulton, Johns Creek actually (That's almost Forsyth). THE creek runs just behind my property. Got 50 acres of undevelopable (sp) floodplain just out my back door. My private playground, everyone else just ignores it. THE river is just a quarter to half a mile downstream. Amazing the amount of critters that live in that 50, and it adjoins or has safe corridors (powerlines, pipelines, the water system, and of course THE river) to larger areas, parks, golf courses etc.Quote: DocSo would that imply Clayton County or Forsyth?
Was only halfway listening yesterday to the radio but heard some little blurb about the Chattahoochee being designated as the most endangered waterway in the US. Not good....
Get on the Norwegian Epic out of Port Canaveral (you said a while back you hadn't decided which cruise). By far the best casino on the water anywhere, great water park up top for the kids including kids-only areas, lovely boat. I really enjoyed it, crossed the Atlantic with them in 2013. They have several theaters with different live shows and movies most days, special kids programs and activities, a 3 story atrium with an enormous screen where they do lectures and cocktail parties, lots of places to get away in a quiet corner. I was excited to see they were sailing out of here for the first time this winter. They run BJ tournaments 1 or 2 times a day, have about 30 tables and about 1000 slots, they walk around all day handing out money while you're playing.
The worst thing on the ship was the main dining room; I went twice, did not like my food, and the accoustics are horrible; all hard surfaces, so it's clattery loud, even worse when they have music; you actually cannot hear the person next to you. But there are 10 or so other restaurants on board and several other bars; you won't go hungry even if you never dine there.
