Bluegreen vacations

Has anyone had any experience with this racket?

They called me offering 4 nights free(pay the hotel taxes, not sure how they calculate that) at any of their 17 locations.
pay 250 now and get 250 back in Visa gift cards, a 2-hour timeshare/ vacation package tour, or something like that.

It's a legit offer, but it's pretty weak as far as time-share offers go. There are much better ones out there.
Plan on spending a few hours touring the resort and an hour or so saying no. I've gotten a number of vacations from Wyndham and a couple other places.
They'll offer you a package for 20K, then reduce it to 15K, then offer a different package for about 10K.
They don't mention the total price, they tell you this will cost you $150 or $65 a month. You can buy the same stuff on ebay for under $100 plus the transfer fee. When I lived in NY, I bought three for under $300 and would meet people that paid $50,000 for the same thing.
If bought right, Blue/Green can be good.

You can yes them to death, sign all the contracts and cancel within three days. My first timeshare presentation, when I was hesitant, the salesman said something that pissed me off, and I told him we should finish this outside. His manager came over and, instead of calming us down, asked the salesman if I was still a potential buyer.
I wanted to go back and sign for a few million points so the guy would be getting a big bonus and then cancel at the last minute.

The new Space Telescope has discovered 3 million new galaxies that we did not know existed. Not new stars, new galaxies. You can't even wrap your mind around something like that. I have always believed the universe is infinite and that it's always been here and will always be here. We have finite brains and we cannot conceive of this so people choose not to believe it. With all the research that's been done on past lives memories in small children I also believe we have been here forever in one form or another. But none of that matters because my cats are meowing to be fed and they really truly think they are the center of the universe.

my gambling system - not claiming it's a winning system - only that it's fun - for me anyway

it's a 3 stage marty plus patience kind of system

been playing it on the Wizard's Bacc game

I bet $5 on whatever result came last (excluding ties) until either Player or Bank has won 4 in a row

the I do a 3 stage marty betting that one of the next 3 decisions will be opposite betting $100, $200 and then $400 on the last bet if necessary

of course, my intellect knows that the probability of 3 more consecutive Players or Banks after 4 straight is no less than at any other time

but my intuition roots against my intellect - and says there is no way one decision will come 7 times in a row which is what has to happen for my patience marty to lose

so far, I'm way ahead - surely that will change - but lots of fun anyway

We had an earthquake at 6:15am. I slept through it. Wife woke up and thought a plane flew too low. Daughter thought she heard a plane crash and went outside to look around. Others said they couldn’t believe how loud it was. No damage. Less than 5 on the Richter scale.

The laser beam from that balloon had nothing to do with it…. (Teasing).

Apparently there was a 3.8 earthquake near Vancouver a few days ago and that is supposed to explain the 3.8 earthquake near Buffalo. Don't believe the hype that it's a Turkey related quake.

Is anyone watching Physical 100 on Netflex?

It's a great concept- 100 Korean fitness celebs from all walks of life compete until only one survives.
It's as if the top NFL, MLB,NBA, WWE stars competed against the top Rangers, Seals, and Marines, as well as a few youtube and tik tok stars, with a sprinkling of rappers and Olympic athletes thrown in. It's mostly one-on-one elimination events, some of which are highly entertaining.

"Law and Order" the TV show which has been running for a very long time - since 1990 - is my fave tv show of all time
the spinoff - "Law and Order SVU" - sex crime investigations - is also very good
the other spinoff - "Law and Order Organized Crime" is not so great imo

the legal arguments and the way the cops investigate are so very interesting and the criminals seem very true to life

I can watch reruns that I've already seen and still enjoy it

There's an older series of true crime shows I enjoyed because it's more about clever schemes rather than just brutal or bloody sensation crimes.

Quote:

Masterminds tells real crime stories about amazing deceptions that brilliant criminals use to pull off seemingly impossible crimes. This new half-hour series combines the mystery of a "whodunit" with the thrill of a "howdunit," revealing the extraordinary world of elite bank robbers, escape artists, impersonators, kidnappers, murderers and frauds.

My neighbor in Jackson Heights was a location scout for the original L&O., and my building was used for several exterior shots and for some hallway and rooftop scenes. It was interesting that they filmed for a week but the footage was used over many episodes.
At one point I had a roommate who was an aspiring actor. He'd head to the Chelsa Piers a few days a week for work as an extra and ended up in several episodes. He was a juror in one, a hot dog vendor in another. He claimed to have a scene as a bartender but that it got cut from the episode. He did a few small roles in Woody Allen movies and fulfilled his lifelong dream of getting a SAG card.

At the end of his speech last night, President Biden was introduced to a new Congressman from Long Island. To my utter surprise, the President mentioned he used to live in Garden City, the town just south of what I consider my hometown Mineola. I'd never heard him mention this before as he always talks of his childhood in Scranton. Pa.
His Wikipedia page doesn't mention it, but his father moved the family to Long Island during WW2 and lived there for between three and five years. It's kind of nebulous as he was born in Scranton in 1942 and lists his elementary schooling as taking place in the Electric City.
I used to volunteer at the Garden City Historical Society, as the town is famous for its architecture. GC was one of the first planned communities in the country and has some of the best-preserved Victorian and Tudor houses in the metro area.
I just find it strange that I've never heard him or any GC resident mention it. I have an email in to the Historical Society to see if they know his address. I'd think a plaque denoting his childhood home would be a nice addition to the many plaques already in place honoring past residents.

well, about 80,000 Marylanders served in the Union Army

and about 178,000 of those in the Union Army were black

they suffered especially severe treatment if and when they were captured by the Rebs

anybody know what the insignia on the Union Caps means___?____ I googled but could not find the answer - I guess the "E" designates the regiment - but I don't know what it is under the "E"

The bugle was the Infantry symbol during the Civil War (nowadays it's the crossed rifles). The "E" would be the Company, and the number is the battalion. So, these guys are E company of an Infantry battalion.

Someone much more versed in Civil War history might correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm like 90% positive that's how it breaks down. That's at least how it worked during the early 1900's, and I don't think the 1800's was much different. Modern Army doesn't put Company or Battalion letters and numbers on uniform insignia anymore.

The National Army didn't have Infantry Battalions, they had Regiments, but I agree with the rest. The replacement system wasn't really in effect during the Civil War so a Regiment might leave Indiana with 1,000 men but after two years, it might only have 300 men in it.
A brigade might have three full-strength regiments but by mid-war, it would have five or six regiments, each at 35% strength.

It went Company- Regiment-Brigade-Division-Corp. Some specialty branches- Artillery, Calvary, Medical, Engineers, etc used Battalions but not the Infantry. Sometimes a regiment would split into two groups for an attack and a formation that size was referred to as a battalion, but it wasn't a formal designation.

For the most part, you joined a local company,
which then merged with other locals to form a regiment. Most regiments were made up of men from a single state and sometimes even one city.

I guess I don’t consider filling my gas tank ‘panicking’.

I’m guessing you can still bet the hard 6 at any casino so not really a crisis.

They used to park this in the Terribles parking lot quite often.

Why does it need a catalytic converter? It is a giant sausage car and I don't think anybody expects it to be healthy.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

I bet the bottom yellow part would make an interesting convertible to drive around.

I spent a few minutes watching the press conference and could not believe the sophomoric questions from the reporters as well as the inane answers from the podium.

It seems that the Pentagon is clueless as to what they shot down. If I were asking questions:

1. Does the Air Force have the ability to take pictures (close-up) of the "objects"?
2. Does the intelligence apparatus have the ability to develop and interpret such photos?
3. Was it not possible to use a slow fixed winged aircraft to surveil the "objects" close up to determine what the f--k they were prior to shooting them down?
4. Is there any intelligent life at the Pentagon?

raise your hand if you believe the U.S. Government is going to disclose to the media all it knows about this

Officials will reveal as little as possible about this - info will come out in dribs and drabs as details are leaked to the media and then they will be put in the position of having to confirm those details - or tell outright lies - or continuing to say basically nothing which will not really be feasible with all the pressure the media will apply

I worked in intelligence for 5 years towards the end of my career.

A primary rule of classification is to not inform your enemies of your capabilities and procedures for handling certain kinds of threats. That information would be invaluable to adversaries when evaluating how to threaten you again sometime in the future. So, you can't play the "What did you know and when did you know it? game in press conferences.

The balloon was about 200 feet in diameter, the payload was as large as a bus but would not be visible from overhead (i.e., satellites) because it was obscured by the balloon. Can our military look upward? No comment.

Why didn't they send a plane to accompany the balloon? I imagine its because they didn't know if the balloon's payload had an explosive self-destruct capability that might be triggered by giving it an escort aircraft - and because they obviously wanted to recover the equipment on the payload and study it.

The community has been aware of these surveillance balloons and their previous flights over other countries. I imagine that lots of people in multiple intel agencies have been analyzing this and doing what intel people do. However, you're simply not going to hear about it on television. Because our enemies have TV sets.
So many better men, a few of them friends, are dead. And a thousand thousand slimy things live on, and so do I.

I think it will be hard for them to refuse to put out some photographs or even video eventually, presumedly close up before they shot these others down. It's hard to believe they didn't take a visually close look at all of these objects before they sent missiles into them. They don't need to be dangerously close to them to do that.

Also, pretty sure we can come up with a low tech remote control mini dirigible with some propulsion designed to rise to the height of these things and capture them. A lot cheaper and useful option.

So, if a big enough balloon can reach 100,000 ft.and assuming you could carry a significant payload. Would that make putting satellites in space or other space vehicles much more economical if you launched from there?
