That's completely false. More memory, bigger screen, faster processor, better camera just to name a few things

I'm definitely out of step, as Axel said. If I was independently wealthy I'd probably go back to a flip phone.

However, I can't really remember needing these things.

My phones never run out of memory and I take a lot of pictures. Nor have I ever felt the phone was slow. My apps and stuff seem to work pretty much instantly.

My camera can probably pick up someone's license plate from space.

I may have to get one of them smart phone things. I can't download uber/lyft without a smart phone, my flip phone just won't cut it.

uber lyft are more reliable than local taxi service where drivers simply ignore annoying short runs that are geographically inconvenient for them.

otherwise I will be using this three or six dollar 24 hour prior notice service with a three hour service window.

barber shop, pedicure and fluffNfold are all 'bout fifteen miles for me each way.

don't know what I will do with those 16,000 minutes on my flip phone. can't transfer them.

That works if you're talking about like, cars. The fancy car looks better, goes faster... whatever.

It's usually hard to even tell what kind of phones people have and they look about the same now. That didn't used to be true. Used to be you could tell a fancy phone at a glance, but no more.

Again, Uber, phone games, youtube... everything on my phone works just about instantly.

My $250 phone works as a hotspot. I'm pretty sure even cheaper ones do too. I don't have internet at home because the hotspot is fine.

It's not as fast as a normal connection. However, I don't think that's due to the phone. I think the company only allows you so much data on the hotspot. Am I wrong? ... actually, before I use much data, like at the beginning of the month, the speed is pretty close to a normal internet connection.

What stuff requires all the extra memory and processing speed? What other features does one use on a $1300 phone?

My phone is 700. 1300 is crazy to me so we are probably on the same page on that one. However my crazy mother in law has a 250 google phone and my 700 galaxy are worlds apart. Just the speed loading an app or internet for streaming is significantly different. Mostly though it is the memory and screen size. With all the streaming that I do enjoy the huge screen

I had an iPhone 3g years ago and it was such a PITA. I had to hook it up to a computer to update it (which took hours) and one time I was updating it and it completely erased everything on my phone; apps, pictures, everything. This was AFTER it spent 3 hours sitting there and supposedly backing everything up. But no backup file anywhere. Got rid of it after that. Not long after I bought an Android smartphone brand new for $70. It did everything I needed the iPhone to do, but was a fraction of the price and much easier to use. Now I just use a flip phone because that's even cheaper than the Android. My wife hates her iPhone too but she needs it for work. I will never understand the appeal of those things.

Why is it that someone needs an iPhone for work as opposed to an Android?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree, average person isn't going to notice a whole lot of difference once you start getting into $200+ phones unless theres something special or specific you need/want it to do.

I'm still using a Galaxy Note 4, it's probably $200 or less phone now. The only reason why I haven't upgraded to a newer model is the fact that you can't change in and out the batteries.

How long before 5G is a thing everywhere? I know it's available in some areas of Las Vegas now. I guess when that becomes more widespread is when I'll definitely upgrade to a new phone.

When someone has as many interactions with cops as you do, its clearly not the cops.

All of our family have no criminal record. Not even a misdemeanor. We all graduated college. We have many interactions with cops because we own 10 restaurants, burglaries, theft, criminal trespass. My parents are 78 and 87 with car accidents. My mom said that she "lost faith in the cops." When the cop sided with the racist driver that rear ended my mom hard. They told my mom to go back to her own country.

But lets talk about what happend recently. We got a code enf notice that trash was put on our vacant lot. 2 days later, a kid was shot by a robber on our vacant lot. The kid was shot while standing next to a homeless man that put his garbage on our lot. We have a lawn man that mows every month.

When we were notified of the shooting, I went to the location. A berate cop said that this is unacceptable. I know your lots are not acceptable. Someone was shot. A school is across the street. I said that I was going to get to this code issue soon. I told him that I have no hobbies. I gave up playstation 6 years ago, I gave up joggin 4 years ago. I just work. The cop apologized. To give you an idea how experienced I am with mowing. My deck cracked where the spindle is bolted. I mended 4 frame cracks. I mow 10 acres of land in 6 counties.

The cop recognizes the office address on my license and asks if I live at my office. He knew my parents address and asked if we still live there. He asks why I am claiming that I live at the office upset like I lied to him. I told him that I live at the office. He asks me why I raised my voice. The cop has been yelling at me. I told him that he raised his voice first and he ignores me. I asked why would I lie about where I live. He ignores me. Cop said, " I am sorry I got mad. bro, I am going to help you out. I am going to put tresspass warning signs on all your locations."

Other interactions: A lady cop claimed that I was speeding, untrue. I didn't argue. I said "thank you." I had to take agressive behavior class because she said that I was going 20mph over the limit. I was going the limit.
I've been mugged 8 times. The first mugging, the cop said that I must have wronged someone. We had 8 drive bys by an ex worker /gang. Cops don't want to make case #. A cop blocked my moms car in a half empty parking lot. She went to every customer. The cashier said that the unmarked car belongs to the cop. He didn't apologize to my 71 year old mom and 80 year old dad. But the cop moved his car. My sister was murdered by her husband. The cops covered it up on day 1 Newspaper said, "we are treating this as a suicide." My brother was murdered by our worker. Covered up. Sheriff dept told me that it was murder but ruled a suicide on day 1. Cop got into argument with our investigator over my bro being a drug dealer. My bro went to peace officer class and gave discounts to the police and a 100 club member. We had a burglary. The detective accused my mom of insurance fraud and burglarizing our own restaurant and wants to polygraph. She agreeds to but he won't return our calls. That case is 2 years old. Still waiting. Cops summoned mom to court for missed vaccination. Vet said that she called the cops and told them that we never missed a vaccination and baffled why they wont drop the case. They put me hold for 30 mins. I tell them that the dog is registered under my name. I should go. They say that I can not appear in court for my mom. When we are rear ended cops blame mom for accident. Even though cop caught other party lying about pulling out of parking exit that didn't exist. Cop said where is the exit, there is none. Dad was tboned, bumper left at scene. Dad brain damaged and scalp off. Didn't make news. Case unsolved for last 7 years. two separete friends tell me that the cops are saying that our family is dealing drugs and burglarizing our own restaurants. Detective tells me in his office that I'm going to be in trouble with the IRS for no reason and apologizes.

I have many more stories....

I have not been paid for years. I do this for free. And I know that since there is no will, I may not get anything. I have loaned money to the co. But I don't care about the money. I don't care if I have to start over after my parents die. I just don't want them to be taken advantage of. This matters more than how they treat me. I can't live with myself if something bad happens to them.

I forgot to mention that our restaurants have been slow so we are down to three locations. We had 10 locations for about 55 years.

Actually, I do have a financial stake. Bc if they lose almost all their bank acct. I'd have to come back to manage their finances. I don't know how far they would go to the edge. They have alot of property taxes. If I inherit in probate, I have alot to gain.

Speaking of hotspots, I just switched to Verizon and am getting a hot spot. Once logged in, how close do I need to be to use a chromebook with WiFi from my phone. Do I need be in the same room?

I'm certainly no expert, but in the past I've had problems with those things(I've been trying those things out off and on for probably about 10 years). In certain areas they actually work great and other places they don't work so well. They almost never worked out for me as an alternative to getting a normal service. They always seem to work well when I was in my car, some businesses, or outside, but once I got it into my residence it was just total crap.

They actually don't go that far when the walls start to get in the way, if I had to guess I'd say 40 feet or so maybe double that in perfect conditions. Obviously, technology has advanced and it's been a few years since I've tried one. I'm sure they make a variety of different strengths/signals.

Do you already have a cell phone service with Verizon? If you do, you should be able to tether off of that without getting a separate hotspot service. If there is data limits on your tethering there's a few different ways to mask the fact that you're actually tethering.

If this hotspot thing is all related to your business/ multiple users it seems like you will just have to get one and test it out and see how it works out. I'm not too hopeful considering you are out in Bisbee, I certainly hope I'm wrong.

So how could the cop write a ticket for going to slow if she was going the speed limit. If this was true you could beat it easily in court.

So how could the cop write a ticket for going to slow if she was going the speed limit. If this was true you could beat it easily in court.

To answer your question I am going to tell another story.

Mom and dad 78 and 87 was driving in between restaurants in a low income area. A man with a criminal record, no drivers license, with ID, backs out of his driveway and hits the passenger front corner of my parents car. Mom's collission warning and autonomous brakes were not activated. My mom was in the left of two lanes. Cop writes mom ticket for failure to control speed. Other driver gets no ticket even though he has no license and a criminal record. Cop puts in traffic report that man was backing into his driveway, false. Insurance co. said that I need to amend report. I request to amend report and have the cop who wrote the report call me. The cop is the only one who can change the report. He hasnt called me for 3 weeks. Who do you think the judge will believe. How much time money will a third party investigation cost. Also, we used a traffic lawyer to fight the failure to control speed ticket. I told them briefly what happened. They said that it should be done in two weeks. Well, 5 weeks later, they came back with a 90 day deferral. I think that the ticket should have been thrown out because moms date of birth on the ticket was incorrect. But I didn't push my lawyer because they had been in negotiations with the prosecutor. Possibly, correspondence. And I felt that he must have reached his best deal. I was told that once i pay for the ticket its an admission of guilt. I cant amend the report.

I imagine that without video proof, the judge will usually side with who he believes. To fight my bogus wreckless driving ticket for going 20 mph over. I sent an experienced criminal defense lawyer with good relations with another judge. He told me that he had a really hard time fighting my case. He could only get agressive behavior class. I almost got a false criminal record. Wreckless driving is a criminal offense. I was 45 when I got this ticket. Up to that point, I never posted anything about the cops online anywhere. Kept my mouth shut about my cases to everyone including my closest friends, the commissioners son in another county. Up to that point everyone thought that my siblings committed suicide. How did keeping quiet treat my family, worse.

Another story to clarify why sometimes, people don't lawyer up.

I used to work for a corporation. There were people that travel, vandalize machine and sue. They made their sole and only living scamming businesses. Lawyer said that it was more expensive to fight the cases than to pay the lawsuit $5000 per location. So we were losing cases across the country. another reason why we didn't fight it was that these machines were independently owned under a franchise. The franchizees were paying for the cases.

I used to listen to a traffic ticket lawyer that teaches people how to fight tickets on technicalities. People who fight tickets do in principle not for money. Time and expense to fight tickets is more costly than the ticket.

South tx is considered the worst place for a corporation to get a fair trail according to henry j thomas. This place is probably hate trump headquarters

We have a community holdem game and started having a optional side pot for high hand during the game. Anyone can opt to pay $1.00 to enter the side pot and who ever has the high hand at the end of the evening wins that pot.
A questions came up and I hope I can explain what I need answered.
During a hand, a player may have a potential high hand, for example pocket pair and after the flop the player has a full house. The player bets or raises and all other players fold. Since no one called is the players full house qualify for the high hand?

If someone was recording the results of each hand, wouldn't they record it as a full house?

So are you suggesting that in my example, the hand should be exposed and recorded as the high hand at that point of the game?

I have no idea how well this phone actually works or if it ever hit the market it was supposed to be around $400 it certainly seemed much more interesting than a $40 TracFone.

I forced my dad to stop driving 6 years ago when he was tboned while driving down a main road by a truck from a residential road. He has brain damage. He has memory loss. I was in the car the next day to see if he could drive. This didn't make the news. The trucks bumper was left behind. Case unsolved.

Mom on the other hand is great for her age. She looks like she is 65. She wasn't always innocent. But she has been profiled alot for just the discrimination that you displayed. She was age discriminated.

I'll give you an example.

Mom was driving down the left lane. A motorcycle was exiting the parking lot. A truck in the right hand lane hit the motorcycle. Mom got swiped so she turned around. Two cops vehemently targeted my mom as the first person to hit the motorcycle. A witness came forward and said that there was another truck that pushed the motorcycle into the second truck. The 1st truck fled. The motorcycle or fleeing truck swiped my mom. On the news they were asking the public to find this truck. My mom's car was impounded for forensics. Cops told her that she was the last vehicle hit by the motorcycle. Now, the cops are claiming that there was no other truck.

When they towed my mom's car after the criminal cut her off. The cop didn't want her to get anything out of the car. CCPD was written on the windshield. I have a guess that the car was searched for drugs. And that some of these accidents are set ups. My van was ransacked when cop associates brought my van back 2 hours late.

Now, I have had my mom admit to me when she is in the wrong in a couple accidents. The volvo has autonomous brakes and alarm which with almost certainty validifies my mom's story.

I'll give you another example. My mom was driving down the access road left most lane. A car slammed into her and pushed her car over the curb onto the concrete. My mom saw the location of the other car. It was in her lane. before the cops came, He moved it to cover himself up. The cop said that he can not tell who is telling the truth. Cop didn't write anyone a ticket. How hard is it to look at tread marks and debri to find out. Insurance went half and half on blame.

What about my personal experiences with cops. Has nothing to do with my parent's age.
The 8 drive by's never made a case or on the news. That is selective enforcement.
Cop never showed up for broken car window while I'm at work. But they show up another day for an employee who had a broken window. I must be imaginating selective enforcement. Cop didn't show up for someone who hit my car. They were screaming at me. Senior at UTA steals 5,500 electronically from me. Merrill lynch walks across the street to obtain electronic check with culprits name. Detective said that he will not be prosecuting. Another detective reached out to me and wants to prosecute but never called back. Selective enforcement. I still remember his full name by heart. I did some searching. He went to Baylor for graduate studies.

It's purely a matter of preference.

However, in most card rooms the jackpot would be awarded without the hand needing to go to the river.

In some cases, there must be a minimum amount of money in the pot.

My dad is forcing my mom to run the business. She hasn't admitted to me if she would consider retiring if dad gave her a choice. Its not something that she thinks about. She said that we owe his hard work.

This brings up another story.

I consulted a family lawyer and psychologist. They said that I can not deem my mom mental incapacity like my dad for making bad business decisions. Mom is not dimentia like my dad. If I goto court for mental incapacity. Mom will pick up the business and listen to him. I haven't really looked thoroughly into a way to take the business away from parents. But it would be emotional.

If I knew at 19 what I know now. I never would have returned to Corpus after 19.

Many young and old people don't like living in Corpus. Austin is 200 miles north. My dad had decided between 2 American universities. My life would have been different if he went to the other one. Or stayed with his wine and cloth business in South Korea. Mom's dad was a banker. She graduated college in S. Korea. Met my dad through friends. Moved from canada to be with dad.

I was a moutain bicyclist. Corpus has no hills, no bicycle trails. Corpus has farmlands and flat lands and the beaches.

Lol.

I don't think it's worth being glued to a phone all day or having your whole existence filtered through technology.

Let it rip. If your plumb winds up being a stinker (plumbs are the highest variance fruit) gut it out. Those kinds of trials and tribulations are what make you tough. I'm not saying that I don't have the choice to leave my parents. I just couldn't handle that emotionally. My parent's need me to check their tires. Fix flats. Fix stuff around their house. You can call it weakness, a conscious, what ever. They would probably be bankrupt by now if I left. We lost 80% of our personal and business bank accts feeding the business. When I got certified to fix my own, we are now seeing an undetermined amount of profit.

I left my parents in 2010. Found a job in Austin. I visited them in the fall of 2013 and broke down emotionally and stayed since then.

I did research assisted living. They are 100k /per year. We can't afford that anymore. Nursing, not fond off. My dad almost cried when I told him about assisted. My mom is a nurse. We don't need hospice yet.

If I had to guess I would say that's absolutely not true. But it's almost like it's a trick statement since from what I understand TracFone is really just a carrier and they allow all kinds of different phones to you be used with their service. I know you can get a used Samsung J3 for around $40 and they have a fairly good specs. Feel free to tell us exactly what kind of phone you're using with the TracFone service.

There are people that like to use their phones for graphic heavy gaming, perhaps video editing and other various things that require a lot of processing power and what not, and I don't think that would work very well on whatever phone you're using.

Now, if you said everything I WANT to do, that's a different story, you're probably correct. My Mom can probably do everything with her old corded touch tone phone that she wants to do with it.

I wouldn't argue with you if you're saying that people spend way more on their phones and they actually need and use. My wife uses a Samsung Galaxy sky 8mb memory and she was saying how it was just fine until she ended up running out of memory and couldn't put any more money-saving apps on it.
