I was looking forward to a fun session in the classic classy chandler room at Caesar’s Palace this last weekend only to be disappointed by unprofessional dealers and casino management.
I was pleased to see a $10 UTH table and one seat open at the UTH table and sat down . Only a couple hands in, the lady to the left of me won with a flush, with the dealers hand had not qualified with a pair. When the dealer made the payoff, I noticed she did not pay the Blind bet at all. No one at the table said anything. Relunctanly, I pointed out the mistake. The dealer said because she did not qualify, this bet is not paid. I said I thought she was wrong. She insisted she was right. Well, this just escalated for an hour of banter with me and the pit bosses, and eventually the shift casino manager. who said that was the rule and that’s how they do it. I insisted on seeing the written rules, I believe they have to have available. In the mean time, the dealer made repeatded remarks about me how this game was supposed to be fun, and how I’m missing ’the point”........ After an hour, after I persisted in them making a ruling, and asking for their business cards, they told the dealer, to pay the blind bet whether or not she qualified unless she tied or beat the player, (just as intended by shuffle master). For three months they had been dealing this game wrong, to unsuspecting players. I guess this blog is the only recourse. Perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps Caesar’s can make any rule on the payoffs, after all, it is there casino, and they have to try to make up there 80 billion dollar deficit somehow.

sleazars strikes again.
I've tried telling people here to take their gaming elsewhere,
but they just blow on and on about the free rooms.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to playing some UTH in Vegas during my visit next month. I'll be sure not to play at Caesars, and I'll make sure that they're paying the game properly at wherever I do play.

Agreed 100%. I'd rather sleep in a car in a dust joints parking lot rather that a free room playing at a Caesars property.

Disagree 100%. If people like the atmosphere and the free rooms, why not? I'm staying at Flamingo for free on Saturday the 26th. Do you know how much strip rooms cost that night?

I could fill a book with all of the sleazy stories I have heard over the years about Caesars.
If you like their games and their gouging on the house edge, go to town. I wish you luck.
I can get rooms elsewhere, with better rules and friendlier staff.
I admittedly have more experience with their non Vegas properties.

That's sleazy and should be reported. If she was playing $10, that's $15 they "stole" from the player. Completely unconscionable. I'd assume Roger (if he reads this thread) would be upset at the casino bastardizing his game rules in favor of the house.

By the way, MotorCity Casino in Detroit will no longer allow you to get paid on the Trips if you fold. You must make the play bet. (E.g., Dealer turns up 3 Kings on the board, you hold 8-2o with no made pairs. You must make a play bet to get paid 3-1 on the Trips, even though you will probably lose). This is 100% against the rules, and I made sure to clarify that is EXACTLY what they require. This is a new rule at MotorCity.

I may be wrong here, but I think the casino has the option to change the rules and paytable. At least, that could be an option written into the agreement with the distributor (ShuffleMaster, in this case).

If such a clause IS in the contract, about all Roger / SM can do is shrug it off. If not, then they can force the casino to run the game properly.

But either way, the casino should have printed rules they can show upon request.

Free for me with way better games.

Well, not everyone is such a high roller like you. With my minimal MLIFE status, I can stay at Luxor for $275 that night. I'm just trying to give reasons why some people might want to stay there. I know it's not right for everyone.

Well, call me a UTH whore, but I happen to know that the Trips bet at the Vegas downtown joint known as “THE D” (formerly Fitzgeralds”) is only payed if you make the play bet. Rip off!

As far as question if casino can make there own rule on payoff, I don’t know, but would be a good question for “The Wizard.” Especially for his upcoimg interview the Froger Snow from Shuffle-master on “ Gambling with an Edge"

The casino manager did eventually show me there written rules on the computer. It said to pay the blind if the dealer qualified.....but did not explicitly say not to pay if he didn’t.

Can u imagine hitting the royal and the dealer not qualifying...and not getting payed off on the blind. I’m pretty sure Caesar’s will now pay this, but they ripped off unsuspecting players for three months.

Oh man, so many questions:

#1) When did this place change it's name to "The D"?
#2) When did they get Ultimate Texas Hold'em? I couldn't find that downtown anywhere last year
#3) Do they have this 'house rule' posted anywhere?

1. about 30 seconds ago. They don't even have new chips yet, and the outdoor signage still says Fitzgeralds.
2. I didn't notice the UTH, but I popped in on saturday and I was surprised by the variety of games. I remembered Fitz as being a BJ/craps/roulette shop, but the variety was pretty good. Alas, I'll have to return to pick up a "D" chip.
3. That has to be an error. It's a patented and licensed game, and that's not how the actual rules work.

Look it depends what you want. I am a medium to somewhat low roller and two years ago I got about $10,000 in free rooms at Caesers properties from New Orleans(twice) to New Years eve in Vegas and three other trips to Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Atlantic City. So for me to play a game that has a 1% more advantage for the house at my level of play I get back more in comps than I lose with the 1%. Now if I was an AP or very high roller then I would feel differently and want the better house rules versus freebies.

Really? Isn't the game tested, approved, and certified by the state of NV according to what SMI says the rules are? I guess I just assumed that the house would have to use those rules in order to be spreading an approved game.

My understanding is that the game distributor can offer his game with multiple paytables and multiple sets of rules. The casino is free to use any. It is not, however, free to change any rules, other than as provisioned by the game distributor.

I'll defer to Wizard on this, however.

That was LAST week.

This thread/issue was suggested as a possible topic to ask, but it didn't make it into the show.
