So the question is... Would you rather have someone that you love in your life who is faithful, but have very little money while struggling to pay bills and not having the luxuries of life including travel and dining, etc.... or have tons of money with the luxury of doing whatever you want and live large but not love your spouse and know that he/she is cheating on you.?
I think I can get a true survey here since we are anonymous...lol
Quote: WatchMeWinI had to break the truth to them about life.
The truth is, they've been surveying big lottery
winners for 30 years and they found overwhelmingly
that after the excitement of the money wears off,
usually from 3-6 months, the happiness level of
most winners is right back where it was before they
won. Or lower. Very few were substantially happier
because they now had all the money they ever
wanted.
In interviewing them, they found most peoples
old problems had been replaced by new problems.
What famous person once said, the difference
between rich people and poor people is that poor
people still think money solves everything, and rich
people know thats a lie.
Young females and older males is part of nature. Young females know they don't pay bar tabs or club admission charges or wait in lines. Though that often depends on their youth and the display of their breasts as well as their attention to older male customers.
Some May December and December May relationships really are based on love, not money. The Girl in the Cafe showed two people who actually cared about each other. Sure she used both towels and ate all the chocolates in the hotel room but that is what young girls do anyway but she displayed honest attention to his difficulties rather than treating him as a Sugar Daddy.
In a casino, young girls will approach middle aged men... because they have money/chips and are likely half sloshed ... easy marks for a quick Micky Finn and a careful looting of his hotel room. Also, casinos often have women who need to make up for their gambling losses the old fashioned way.
The girls are in fact niave to say that money doesn't make people happy (because it makes plenty of people happy)...but you are equally as niave to think that if two people are not as well off, then they are likely unhappy.
It's all pretty relative to the person. You know those groups of people that have tons of money in the bank, but they never go on luxury vacations, or shopping sprees, or whatever? You think giving those people more money would make them happier?
For me, as long as I have the ability to pay bills, save some money, and have some money left over for entertainment, I'm happy. That means that the accumulation of wealth (beyond money for retirement) means very little to me. However, I am extremely unhappy when I don't have the money to pay my expenses. Then it gets stressful. Money makes me happy at that point.
Quote: WatchMeWinAs much as I appreciate the notion that the people here are good people and cherish the idea of love and relationships... which is very nobile. However, the question is in the extreme scenario. If you had to choose one or the other , which would it be. I agree , happy medium / balance is the best.
You coined the most apt adjective to describe the question: "ridiculous."
It's as ridiculous and fundamentally absurd as the dilemna posited to a woman by a Nazi in WWII: "You have two sons here; we will kill one of them. You choose."
Bah.
I also think that the lightening bolt strike of LOVE is a myth, lust maybe but not love. Love to be lasting has many facets and is learned as you mature. I think that those cultures that choose someones mate may actually have a better idea than our North American obsession with an unstoppable love that suddenly appears out of nowhere.
Just so everyone doesn't think I am a bitter old geezer. I am very happy, not particularly rich but can meet my financial obligations. and married 43 years with marriage getting better every year.
Can't buy love in this world
But it'll get you a half-pound of cocaine
And a sixteen-year old girl
And a great big long limousine
On a hot September night
Now that may not be love
But it is all right
--Randy Newman
Ben Affleck in "Boiler Room"
Money is tangible validation as to whether we are winning or losing at "the Game."
Our ego demands we succeed, and when the money is there, bingo: we know things are rolling our way.
Success is always better than failure.
The Game is the thing ... money is just gravy.
But, I do like this quote from Josh Axelrad in his book "Repeat Until Rich" (discussed at length around here already):
Quote:“It occurred to me there might be a link between money and the breadth of raw experience a man could get.”
Now THAT quote, I agree with 100%.
How much money - a pension, a top lottery prize, 100% in Shell, Exxon, Petrochina, Gazprom and a volcano island, all the money in the world?
How much love - a red hot mutual passion, irresistibility to your preferred sex, lived happily ever after and died in one day, adoration by everyone in the world?

If your level of happiness is x out of 10
and you would stay at "x" for the rest of your life but you would either have $50k per year to live on or $100k per year to live on (and stay married at the "x" level of happiness) - I think most people would choose $100k
Quote: WatchMeWinI had a ridiculous debate with some women the other night regarding money and happiness. They were hopeless romantics and oh soo beautifully young and naive at the ripe age of 24. They tried to tell me that money doesnt make people happy. (Oh btw, this was right after they jumped up and down and kissed me with big smiles after I picked up their tab). I had to break the truth to them about life. When the money goes... so does the love. Conversely, when the money comes, the love can be learned. Sad but it is true. No one wants to do without in this world. Especially this day and age with new media showing the greener grass to the world like never before.

renting a different 21yr old weekly is still alot cheaper than getting married/divorced. and less agonizing and frustrating
Love is pillow talk after hot sex, love is working through problems love is being there for your family no matter what. Love is late night drives just for the hell of it. love is walking hand and hand down the street on a starry night not having to talk, just happy being with each other love is even lies sometimes. Love is getting up n the middle of the night every night to take care of the baby while u let ur wife sleep.
Faithfulness is commitment. Not love. You are faithful because of love but one if faith full because 1 is willing to commit and have no illusions about ones self.
I guarantee u have never been in love. You may think that but you have not. My parents are divorced but still in love.

Quote: i0r0retardodI beg to differ, my graduating hs class half of us would go have big orgy's. that was class of 05. 80% of us are now married and still swinging. only 2 of 15 couples have divorced. Enriching each others lives and saving marriages with pillow talk with each others spouses. We are all in love with each other. I would say truly being in love is a result of pillow talk after hot sex.

Dude, you and your friends are 24-25 years old. 13% of your married friends are already divorced. That is not group success.

LOL, there are some Ferarri models which have been known to have massive problems with overheating of breaks. I guess this is what happened here also.... :-))
This what we see here, happened alot :-)))
Now, I know it goes outside the question, but I do believe there becomes a point where adding more money is simply not worth it. If you can provide for you and your family and have a little extra for hobbies, adding more money may provide very little gains.
No, money doesn't make people happy, but lack of money definitely make people sad.
Love and $ are not mutually exclusive. With money, you can also have love. I have enough confidence in myself to say that I could find love with or without $. But having the $ first sure would help.Quote: FinsRuleOP, I'm not sure what you describe is exactly love. But I'll take what love actually is over money without question. I'm really surprised at these survey results.
