I’ve had a complete Nevada collection I think 4 straight years now. Luckily I never have more than 3-5 new ones to grab every year.

I forgot to post I collected Strat, Sahara, Oyo and Circa a couple of weeks ago. I again have a complete Nevada collection until resorts world and Mohegan open up.

Has Virgin (the old Hard Rock) opened yet? That, and the four you list, are the only ones I don't have that I know of. I just hope Sahara doesn't pull a Lucky Dragon before my next trip.

Virgin (Mohegan) pushed back their January 15th opening and hadn’t announced a new date last time I checked.

I collected all the available chips in Florida casinos/card rooms plus two day cruises in the last week. I was here so I figured I’d take 4 days to collect them on the VERY long way from Fort Lauderdale to Tampa Bay.

Well, I am a couple of days late with this post. If I had some means of faking the date of this post, my tardiness might go unnoticed, since no one has posted anything at all in this thread for more than six weeks. Blame all of this crud on a pandemic, all of the stuff that's going on around here, or perhaps just my own incompetence or current lack of enthusiasm.

You see, the "plan" has been for me to post an annual report on/about March 16th, summarizing what we have "accomplished" in this thread, with our now having passed the nine-year mark. I mean, this is supposed to be a Casino Chip of the Day thread, and (as shown in the table below) it has been years since we have maintained more than a third of that rate. This year, we were under 10%.

Anyway, if and when someone does have new chips to post, there does still seem to be interest in the topic. We saw that last May when a new forum member, RideTheEdge, posted a number of chips from his collection representing casinos in multiple countries. Then, last summer, member Torghatten posted a number of chips that reactivated the thread. All seems to have been rather quiet since then, perhaps because we have already covered a significant portion of the readily-accessible casinos and perhaps because some virus has cancelled the bulk of our travel plans.

To me, the most evident problem with the future of the thread is the loss of posted chip images, primarily due to the change in policy at one of the image-hosting sites, with the result that images stored at that site are no longer visible in this thread unless the owner of those images pays a recurring fee. Back last June, I posted a summary of the defects I had found. I still haven't pursued a solution.

Here are some recent statistics about this thread, through each anniversary date:

I ran out of steam posting chips from my collection from casinos that are already represented in this thread. Sorry about that.

In the answer to today's Las Vegas Advisor question of the day, I saw a reference to a Margaritaville casino in Shreveport (presumably Louisiana). Is that the Margaritaville casino that is normally referred to as being in Bossier City, or is this a different casino that I have never heard of before?

So I sorted my new chips in my hotel in New Orleans and this is what I have collected since Christmas.
1 Mississippi
1 Colorado
1 New Mexico
1 Minnesota
1 West Virginia
1 Indiana
2 California
2 Arkansas
2 Massachusetts
2 Rhode Island
2 Connecticut
2 North Carolina
2 Iowa
4 Nevada
5 New York
5 Pennsylvania
8 Arizona
25 Texas
31 Florida

That makes 98 new chips and I am closing in on a milestone in my collection. If I counted correctly which I doubt I did I have 46 new chips for the thread.

Interesting point, PG. I can only offer this speculation: I would consider your original image to be in portrait format, while the new "Insert My Picture" feature of the forum (or the hosting service) may automatically orient images in landscape format. If that speculation is correct, then I think that is a serious error in the feature. Hope that's not really the case.

I saved it, edit it (rotated the picture), and then reposted it.
One thing you can do is preview your post first to see if the picture looks good.
I am not sure why the new posting method does this, but the preview post (and edit if necessary) is one workaround.

Guess I need to revise the speculation that I posted earlier. It still seems likely that either the WoV posting feature or the hosting service has "landscape" format as the default, but there is at least a workaround if you find the post doesn't look the way you want. I still haven't attempted this new feature myself.

On a related topic....

As I noted previously, I had hoped this new feature would offer a way for this thread to correct for the many chip-of-the-day images that are now missing or obscured. That problem arose because the images were being hosted by sites (e.g., Photobucket) that started charging for their services, and those "surprise" charges have not been paid. I updated my list of such images and planned to notify each of the chip posters about which of their images could use some attention using this new posting feature.

Unfortunately, I found that the bulk of such images were posted by members who are no longer active here. I have identified a total of 118 chip images that I think need to be replaced, with 104 of those posted by just four members/collectors. None of those four members have even visited the site in the past three and a half years. The other 14 images were posted by 10 other members who provided one or two images each. Seven of those remaining 14 images were posted by members who haven't visited the forum in more than three years.

I can try to contact those members by private messages, but these new observations have taken a significant toll on my expectations that we will ever be able to repair the damaged posts, even with the new image-posting feature and even with the new authority for members to be able to edit their old posts in this thread.

I am open to suggestions as to how we might be able to fix this problem in the thread.

I’ve never used it before and don’t know how it works, but can you use the Way Back Machine to find either the image or WoV at a point in time the image existed and grab it? If that works, I assume it would be labor intensive.

Which casinos chips are missing if you don’t mind providing a list. I have almost 1000 chips in my collection so I’m sure I will overlap with some of the missing chips. For the rest I’m willing to find photos on the internet of the chip. The only thing is we would need a mod to put the new images in the correct post.

l am working on a list to show the missing images and who originally posted them. Should have that ready soon.

I had considered the possibility of asking a mod to edit the defective posts, but the Wizard has indicated that he is opposed to the idea of a mod editing a member's post. (I assume that removing forum violations is an exception to that policy.)

I keep trying to figure out if I want to move my chip images over. I think I do, and I think that's the easy part. Harder, but I think still doable, is replacing all the internet-sourced images of the casinos themselves. I know many of my cotd posts retained the chip images (I pay photo bucket) but they've lost other images that I didn't source from PB. So now I'd move the chips here, upload casino/other images here, and stop paying PB.

I have always been impressed with the contributions and dedication some long term members have for posting/maintaining content like this. This 9 year+ thread has to be one of the oldest regular running threads here ("Remember When" is even a few months younger).
Imho, fix the easiest stuff now. Get as many images saved on this site from current participating members willing to do so. And slowly work out what to do with the more difficult stuff (which is already under way thanks to Doc). Moving forward, members posting to the cotd thread will hopefully know/learn to store images here now and not externally (which is the cause of the missing images). GL

So here is my promised list of the 118 posts in which the chip of the day image is either missing or obscured. As rdw4potus has mentioned, there are other missing images in this thread, but for now I am only focused on cases where images of the official chip of the day are not being presented properly.

Just from a quick look at the list I can fix about half of that list with pictures from my collection if we can get a mod to insert them into the original posts.

Yes, I suspected that a fair number of the missing images could be duplicated from the collections of active members, even if I am unable to contact those who originally made the posts (or even in the case that they do not want to participate further.) I think I have at least a very few of those chips myself. However, ...

And, as Hamlet once said, "Aye, there's the rub." As I posted before, the Wizard is opposed to a Mod editing a member's posts, and I am not interested in offending our host. Still looking for a solution to this, and thus far I have been too lazy even to send PMs to the original posters. Maybe I will be able to take care of that in the next day or two.

Update on missing chip images....

Well, I finally got around to sending messages to all but one of the members who had posted chip images that are now missing and asking for their help in getting the thread fixed and up-to-date. So far, only a couple of those members have read their messages, and only one has replied, offering to see what he can do. Not really sure how much support I will be able to solicit at this time.

I have not sent a PM to that one other member because he is currently listed as a "Restricted User" who has not visited the forum since 2018. I did not search out the reason for his banishment (Edit: finally looked into this, and it wasn't a banishment but rather a resignation.), but it seems that he could neither receive a PM if I sent it nor edit his post even if he were willing to help.

Still hoping....
