It’s pretty cool.
It provides a link to a third party service that will upload and host the photos, as well as insert the BB code into the forum post text box, where it can then be moved within the post if desired.
Can we get that service here?
While we’re at it, and particularly if we use this service, can WoV be modified to allow using standard BB code for image links?
Thanks
So here’s some of the key info from that post.
Quote: LVAdviceNo changes have been made to the existing methods of adding images to your posts. You may continue to add images as you always have, if you like.
The new, blue link at the bottom of the posting box (including the QuickReply box) should pop open an upload window and prompt you to select an image from your computer to add to your post. It will then automatically insert the necessary code into the text box to make your image display. The reason for this added feature is to make it easier to add photos to posts for some folks who aren't comfortable jumping through hoops to upload and post images. Since the images are hosted externally, it's great for the site as it doesn't take up my disk space.
Images are hosted by postimage.org / postimg.cc, and in theory will be hosted there forever. Note, there is not a mechanism to remove images uploaded to their site, so don't upload something you may want removed from the internet later.
For what it's worth, I frequently go to LVAdvice and use their function to upload a photo, then take the code back here to include the photo in a WoV post - without ever posting the photo at LVAdvice.
So I again ask, can't WoV get this service (or one like it)?
Also note that the url that comes back makes the photo a link to the service. I tend to remove that part when converting the IMG tags to the WoV version. FYI: A direct link to postimg.cc allows uploads and returns 8 different formats of links for the photo. (I continue to go thru LVA for this since I can't remember which of the 8 formats is best.)
They have links that provide the code necessary to include their service. Also, their About page indicates that the service was specifically created to give message boards an easy way to upload photos - for free.
Of course, I gotta also ask that WoV, and DT, get modified to allow standard IMG tags, even if this service isn't implemented.
Thanks
And example of my using their photo service thru LVA then posting it here, is the photo in this post:

How about DT?
Is there an idiot's guide to posting photos
If I post a photo on FB, is there any way to use that post to somehow show a photo here?
Posting photos should be so easy a caveman can do it. I easily post photos on FB. They make it so easy. Not easy here.
If hosted on FB, I think you have to be logged into FB to see them.Quote: terapinedHow about DT?

Question for Wizard... Is this forum built upon a modification of a common platform such as PHPBB or similar or was it built from the ground up?

Ground up.

The odds are looking good for such a feature to be added soon.
Woo hoo! 😁Quote: WizardThe odds are looking good for such a feature to be added soon.
Frankly, I thought it would never happen because of the BB code IMG tag differences. But, woo hoo! 👍
