Tropicana has been using high-stakes table games as the centerpiece of its casino operations. Tropicana had posted higher table-games revenue in six of the past seven months, but its lucky streak ended in dramatic fashion in April.

* so the unanswered question is, has the strategy worked over the 7 month big picture? getting fired seems to say no. However, we all know owners are unbelievable sometimes and can only see that the one month was bad. What you did *today* as opposed to yesterday is all the same in sales jobs too, the *now* totally rules.

* Is it really possible that Atlantic City has gone crazy in some flawed go-after-the-whales strategy?

*"I wonder how he did it? " That is unanswered it seems.

Just looking at a few months of data, it seems as if the strategy was working. Despite the $6m hit, they still seem to be doing better than before the policy took place in blackjack.

Plus, a win like that is valuable publicity which should push up slots and non-gaming revenue. It might pull in some mid-level blackjack players who otherwise wouldn't go towards that side of town.

Month Blackjack 6 month
Jan-10 $2,255,091
Feb-10 $1,422,192
Mar-10 $1,442,870
Apr-10 $2,077,529
May-10 $2,038,401
Jun-10 $1,827,979 $1,844,010
Jul-10 $2,567,605 $1,896,096
Aug-10 $3,055,275 $2,168,277
Sep-10 $2,344,475 $2,318,544
Oct-10 $1,333,374 $2,194,518
Nov-10 $6,429,130 $2,926,306
Dec-10 $4,044,500 $3,295,727
Jan-11 $3,848,590 $3,509,224
Feb-11 $2,045,580 $3,340,942
Mar-11 $2,691,070 $3,398,707
Apr-11 -$1,862,827 $2,866,007

In 2004 when the Golden Nugget hit the same thing, they abandoned their high limits that had been in place for about 8 months.

So it appears this was a player in a high limit game. Will the publicity bring people to the Tropicana or just to their nearest casino?

He has been described as the head of a counting team who won the six million in one session, though I find that hard to believe.

Isn't this how most gamblers feel?
