Can anyone recommend a web site with a gambling forumn that doesn't have a spattering of jerkoffs? Everytime I log in to read a interesting thread and I feel we have some extremely intelligent members, I see some "stupid nonsence" on recent threads. To avoid upsetting anyone in particular no names will be mentioned but you know who you are. I'm still a relative newcomer 7/8/10 start, 63 posts but is it unreasonable to expect an adult conversation having something with at least a "vague" connection to gambling? The wiz's hands aren't so clean either, a handfull of suspensions since day one, just doesn't cut it. I'm sure you guys will skin me alive. I will not respond and will await your decision. Have a nice Day.

It is not an easy task that the Wiz has undertaken. He is attempting to balance the concept of free speech while still preventing the thread hijacks and personal assaults that resulted in the aforementioned suspensions. I think the positives far outweigh the negatives. You posting 63 times probably means in your heart of hearts you agree with me.

I agree. I've started several gambling topics and they get hijacked and taken over by someone who'd rather cry foul about other threads instead of having intelligent input. Maybe a New Year greeting by me will bring new attentiveness.

Sorry but to expect 100% gambling discussions is not realistic--it would be like saying if you don't talk sports at an ESPNZone Bar you get thrown out. Gambling is a big part of my life but not all of it. Even if I ran a casino it would not be. I think a big part of the attraction here is you have people who think similar as to gambling but have differing opinions on other topics.

Its a fine line. Its clear that some posters enjoy being suspended and enjoy needling people. It may be all they have to look forward to or it may be only a part of their lives, but it is their nature.

Topic drift, humor, some confusion at times, ... these are to be expected. Personal attacks, whiny re-hashing of largely imagined past insults and all this other childish squabbling undermines the forum.

I'm just curious, is something like this what you mean?

No, I don't have any suggestions for you, sorry.

The first thing which must be realized, that this is just another gambling message-board for some owner(s)'s personal financial gain. Whether public or private (in whichever ways), all message-boards amount to nothing more than "walking on the white squares" pretend stuff... the "art of politics", screwing people but having them love it.

If you want to really connect with real (even-more pathetic) gamblers, pull up a chair in some casino near you. Actually, the best way to make (a lot of) money in a casino is to palm off the chips of neighboring players. Don't buy into the Richard Marcus stuff about lowering losing bets against a casino... pure fantasy, unless you're dumb enough to ever try it.

Fun to spend some idle moments, or to do some research "between the lines"... but eg, i quit my interest in (spectator) professional sports when i was 18 at university, asking myself, "What are these million-dollars players going to do for me." Ie, they didn't get there by goofing around with that stuff.

I voted to disagree with you because I don't think it is possible to control any site to the extent you would like. Although I haven't blocked any users I usually quit following the threads that completely deteriorate to child like name calling because of 2 individuals on the site. Having said that, some of the 'hijacked' threads have become very interesting on their new tangents.

The base problem is that we are all individuals with different tastes and tolerance levels. It is only when you are KING (or a Wizard) that everything will be to your liking since "stupid nonsence" like many things is in the eye of the beholder.
Be careful when you follow the masses, the M is sometimes silent.

I've found that the number of websites/discussion boards that contain 100% stuff that I want to read is zero. So there will be plenty of "stupid nonsence" no matter where I go, and if there are more than a "handfull" of suspensions, there won't be much discussion. Going off-topic isn't a capital offense. Discussions, by their very nature, diverge. Some people here make deliberate attempts to disrupt discussions (including one who posted on this very thread, rather hypocritically complaining about other people doing just that), but most digressions occur because someone brings up something interesting, and others want to talk about that.

There are several craps boards and several BJ boards where this trash is not tolerated. One site, Gamblers Glenn, makes this one look like a Church Social. And of course John Patrick has a site where misinformation abounds, no math geeks need apply!

But you must still "buy into" the premises that:

a) Any good will come of it (for the posters); and

b) Persons such as "Sonny", a green-chipper no less, lol, is the lord of something.

Nothing like really-free speech to really bring nonsense to an end. (The GG hasn't budged in months!)
