Quote: AxelWolfI'm not sure why you would put it in a paper shredder? If you take newspaper and crumple it up a bunch of times I will soften up pretty good. Better yet, just keep running it back and forth over a hard surface corner, that will have the same effect how's crumpling but much quicker. I guess you're thinking... if it's shredded up it won't clog up as easy. I still don't know what's wrong with a wet washcloth to wipe and a dry one to dry. And then just rinse the used one out really well and proceed to throw it in the washer until you're ready to do a load(no pun intended)Quote: jjjooogggIm considering putting newspaper in a paper shredder and see how well it goes as TP. Im certified in plumbing if it clogs.
Wouldn't letting the newspaper sit in the toilet with a little bit of Drano or bleach break it down pretty good before you flushed? If you had a little bit of bleach to the water that's definitely going to help stop any smells one might get from leaving an unflushed toilet.
I was cutting newspaper squares. I realized that i wouldnt spend the time to cut the squares. Also, I am worried that wet newspaper will clog even shredded. But im a plumber. Do this at your own risk. Actually, a bidet would also be eco friendly
Quote: VegasriderHere in Reno, a restaurant is givig away free packs of TP if you order takeout. Is the food that bad that you need to hit the head immediately after you eat it?
Also so many people going into stores with entire families which is not helping the situation if stores are limiting the number of customers. It should be one per household.
Morons. These workers are putting their lives on the line to make sure people get essentials and people are going to the store as if it’s a family outing. Get what you need only, get it quickly and get out.
I went today....first time in 7 days and maybe 1 in 3 customers had their face covered.
Quote: Suited89Local stores are now running very low or out of dish soap (Ajax, Palmolive, Dawn, etc). No doubt people are washing their PPE-gloves and/or hands with this. Makes gloves reusable, and you use much less than liquid or bar soap..
Saw that this morning. We don’t need any dish cleaning products, but I wanted to see if this was so. It is.
I went to Wegman’s this morning because I figured bad weather + day after Easter + early morning would = light traffic. I was right. (Wegman’s stores are big, like really big.) I don’t think there were more than 50 shoppers.
Everything on our list was available except Clorox wipes (of course), hand sanitizer (of course), and Bisquick. That included things like blueberries, green grapes, fresh bread, eggs, milk, fresh spinach, etc.
Because I need Bisquick for a few different meals I have planned, I stopped at a small local store; no luck. Then I stopped at a third store, Weis, and they were fully stocked! Go figure.
Guy running the store said they ran out of milk Saturday afternoon even with them ordering in twice as much as they usually do for a long weekend. Said they ordered four cases of eggs so 60 dozen all gone Saturday also .... and the eggs are just over $4 a dozen. Bread not a chance. Chips and such slim pickings. Smokes many not getting their first choices .
Crazy as the prices are in there folks were saying it beats the hour long lines at the grocery stores.
Quote: TigerWuI finally saw some toilet paper at my local store, limit one...... I had to buy some brands and alternatives that I normally wouldn't.....
Made in China?
Was definitely less crowded than an average Monday morning. Dismal weather may have had something to do with it.
Just north of us on the way to Lake Ontario (45 minute drive) apparently the wineries are selling unlimited amounts of hand sanitizer. We drive by them usually on way to wife's parents house (on the lake). If we run out I may make the drive. I've gone through over a gallon of gas already this month.....
Quote: zippyboyMade in China?
No, actually the fancy organic stuff, made in America.
I gave up on finding Bisquick. No problem finding flour, baking powder, salt, or oil. So still good to go I guess.
Quote: rdw4potusStill no pasta here.
I did a grocery run on Friday; they got the sauce restocked, but the only pasta still on the shelves was Orzo and Oven-Ready Lasagne.
Ironic; that's the only kind of lasagne I use, but now that I'm on a low-carb diet and haven't had lasagne in over a year, so I don't need it, that's the only thing left.

Bisquick ingredients:
flour, corn starch, palm oil, baking soda, canola oil, salt, sugar
Make you own Bisquick.

Shoot, EB, by the time I went and bought all that stuff, I might as well have just bought Bisquick. Cheaper, and I don’t have all that leftover flour, corn starch, palm oil, baking soda, canola oil, salt, and sugar.
Your choice may be better for those who bake frequently, or eat a lot of pancakes, but that’s not us.
Quote: SOOPOOI read somewhere that the largest pork packaging plant is now closed because a lot of the staff got COVID-19. This might be the first 'supply chain' problem I have heard about. I have no idea if this plant does 1% of all our pork products, or 10%, or 25%. I wonder if this will be noticeable at the supermarkets?
I believe it is Smithfield and they are about 5% of the pork production.

Bought a dozen jumbo eggs at Walmart this morning for $1.30. Is that why no one wants to shop there?
Quote: ThatDonGuyI did a grocery run on Friday; they got the sauce restocked, but the only pasta still on the shelves was Orzo and Oven-Ready Lasagne.
Lucky son-of-a-gun... the only Lasagne I could find at my local store was NON-oven ready.
Interestingly, my interview is archived on their website but it didn't make it on air, while her interview was on air but isn't on the website.
Frozen vegetables - plenty of fresh ones, though
Canned chili with beans - the kind without beans had a few cans left
Pasta - the only type left was whole wheat lasagne
Boxed cake and brownie mixes
They only let in 20 people at a time and made others wait outside behind the shopping carts. Luckily, I am good on TP and tissues, so I headed for the frozen meats section. Interestingly enough, Whole chickens at the hot food buffet were on sale for $1.99 each. But doubtful anyone who can cook for themselves would chance pre-made food from a grocer.
Club Sodas and Seltzer bottles were also getting swooped up and my regular brand (Adirondack) was wiped from shelves, so I had to settle for the store brand Seltzer.
Same for my regular brand of Tea, British Blend, was gone from shelves yet every other brand was in full stock.
Just not my day to go to the super market!
I'm thinking that whatever rules are put in place for 'opening the economy', will just not be followed.
The shelves seemed fully stocked. The meat section seemed overstocked, quite frankly.
By the way, the lobster tail was too salty. Was I supposed to rinse it before broiling?

Yes, definitely rinse it before broiling. If you boiled it, it probably wouldn't matter. My best friend owned a lobster shop in Vegas. He always told me to stay away from the biggest ones because they are ususally older and tougher.
Quote: SOOPOOWent yesterday to Dash's, not Wegmans, because Dash's has the gigantic frozen lobster tails. Was anniversary, so made surf (me) and turf (wife). Despite Governor's order, one monstrously obese guy was walking around with no mask on. The aisles were clearly labeled for one way, but as I turned a corner a woman was coming the opposite direction. And when I went to checkout, the checkout girl at the next register was not wearing a mask.

Then back home to Spaulding Lake?
Edit. Only thing noticeably off the shelf and empty is the Lysol section and the disinfecting wipes. But I have noticed some replacement products claiming to be just as good or better that's stocked now.
However, Paper towels seem to be stocked, where they used to be out as much as TP.
Tylenol had gone missing for awhile, but is back.
Also, try to find surgical masks. Never have any.
in a month. I eat a lot of avocado's,
one a day for the last 3 years. I'm
an avocado expert.
Last month I bought 25 of them,
cost over $50. They looked fine,
not even ripe yet. A couple days
later opened the first one and it
was black inside. Say WHAT? The
outside gave no indication at all.
Turns out they were all rotten.
They must have got frozen some
time along the way.
I didn't have the receipt, they aren't
giving refunds anyway during this
time. Fine. I got 25 avocado's and
in the produce section they have
weigh stations where you weigh
and get a price sticker for check
out. I put all 25 in a big corn bag
and when it said 'quantity, instead
of 25 I entered 1. Total was $2.50
for what should have cost over $50.
Got my satisfaction, they owed me
25 avocados.

Quote: AZDuffmanThen back home to Spaulding Lake?
LOL! I live in a small house (on purpose!) There are garages in Spaulding lake the size of my house! I live near Transit and Sheridan.
As far as big lobsters not being as good, in a previous life I'd eat at the Palm in NYC. I'd order the lobster, and just ask for the biggest one they had. Usually around 6 pounds. Broiled with crabmeat stuffing. It was so large they served it on a serving platter, not a plate. They were always GREAT. The large claw was maybe around 2 pounds on its own. It was ridiculous how much bigger than the smaller claw it was. Last time I had one there it was around $140...... came with a sprig of parsley.
This morning I hit the Wegman’s, around 8AM. It was about a half hour in a fast moving line, store was limited to 250 people and masks were mandatory. Cart wipes and hand sanitizer stations were everywhere.
Produce was well stocked. Fancy butter and cheese was normal, bakery was normal. Meat was kind of picked through, the only way to get bulk ground beef was preformed patties. And limited to two per. I paid the extra couple bucks for that, I was going to make patties anyhow. There is supposed to be a flour shortage, but I bought a bag of King Arthur. Also pasta was fully stocked, but with a two package limit. But that was for any shape; I could have picked two fettuccini, two linguini, two thin spaghetti and two regular, etc. But all I wanted was a couple elbow macaroni.
Freezer bags were limited, but I have rolls of vacuum seal bags. Toilet paper was Charmin, that’s the first time I’ve seen a national brand since March. I’ve heard ice cream is hard to find; I didn’t want any so who knows, I didn’t look. Milk and eggs were plentiful, but limited to two per.
The cashiers are fanatic about wiping everything between customers: the touchpad, the conveyor belt, the signing pen. Someone bags and loads your cart, you have to stay behind the plexiglass, the lane is chained as a second cashier loads your bags into the cart. And again, hand sanitizer stations are everywhere.
This has driven home just how plentiful we’ve always had it. It’s not as if there’s nothing; there’s still stuff. What’s missing is the choice. Charmin or Snuggie tissue? Bounty or Viva paper towels? Kraft or Hellman’s? Stroemann’s or Martin’s rolls? Well, now it’s whatever is there. It’s still there. But the choice is missing.
iwould say 97% of the people were wearing masks, mostly homemade cloth masks. I got everything I needed except meat was the highest price I paid in years. And there were no chicken thighs just row after row of boneless skinless chicken breast.

Quote: DRichI have a friend that makes a good middle class living, probably around $100k and he steals at the grocery store from the self serve checkouts.
Getting harder and harder. I was at
the store a month ago was at a self
serve checkout and at the end it
wouldn't let me pay. A service guy
came over and entered a code
and a video popped up of me
accidentally waving an empty
bag over the sensor. To the
machine this looked like I was
passing an item over the sensor
and hiding the barcode so I
put it in the cart unpaid for. I
was shocked at how detailed
the video was.
I looked it up later and these are
being installed all over the country
in Walmart's and other stores.
They can't catch people stealing
but they can stop stealing at self
checkouts with this tech. If this
had happened halfway thru my
checking out it would stop scanning
until the attendant checked it out.

Is garlc salt produce? I'm only
a produce booster, and that's

off first.
The tech is far better now than
years ago, these things really
work. One thing that's hard to
stop is actual shoplifting. On
Live PD they caught a guy in
Target who had on 4 pairs of
pants and 12 shirts walking out
the door. He got caught that
time, it's all the other times
he didn't get caught that count.
Saw a woman who has been arrested
so many times for shoplifting that
no matter what she steals now it's
a felony. Even if it's a pack of gum.

I hope YOU were wearing a mask, as, perhaps, the only true bandit there!
BTW, do all supermarkets across the country have 'one way' aisles now? Has anyone found one where the shoppers actually comply with this?
