Quote: lilredroostereverybody knows some blackjack players beat the casino for substantial bucks by counting cards
but we have posters here making a living off of machines
as a tribute to them I would like to say that is pretty amazing
a great many people would not believe that if you tried to convince them of it - it took me a long time to believe it
if you tried to call a major newspaper with a story about people beating machines I doubt they would have any interest - they just wouldn't believe it - or it would take a whole lot of convincing to get them to believe it
so, here's to you guys and gals for your amazing accomplishment...................
You sure have not convinced me of it.
And there's good reason why a major newspaper would have no interest.
Maybe our definitions of amazing differ.
To me, what some surgeons have done in the emergency room is pretty amazing.
Same goes for some astronauts. I can go on but you get the point.
Counting cards? "Beating" a machine in some casino? No, not at all that amazing nor some amazing accomplishment in the grand scheme of things.
But, to each their own.

I will grant you that what surgeons and astronauts do is truly amazing and very beneficial to society - much more so than what machine pros do
but I have very little interest in that
I have interest in this field and this is what I focus on - if others think it trivial I don't really care
I have made great efforts to win in certain fields of gambling - I've had some success but I consider it a very difficult thing to do and something that a person can be proud of - but never in machines - it just would have seemed close to impossible to me to routinely beat machines
that is why I'm very impressed with it

Ok...I didn't have the energy to read thru the full 6,000 words as I was trying to find the answer.
In a nutshell....what is his AP play?
Card counting blackjack?
Comp point hustling?
Dice influence?

His AP play was not specifically discussed in the interview.

The AP play I specialize in was discussed on the phone but redacted to avoid any upset over plays that might be given away.
Trust me, the plays are legit workable plays (no systems or martingales or even dice influence) otherwise there would be no point to the redactions

The interview is mainly biographical. It mostly deals with a few dead smaller advantage plays, his time being homeless and his experience with casinos before becoming an advantage player. We also have a long discussion on each of our positions as relates secrecy of plays.
Quote: TDVegasOk...the title reads from homelessness to advantage player....and the advantage play cannot be discussed?

This forum knows my opinion
But it wasn't my interview. it was Missions so...
Quote: Mission146Yeah, and if any other APs would be interested, I wouldn’t mind conducting other biographical-type interviews. Personally, I’m really interested in the stories people have in that regard, I’m obviously already aware of most AP plays that have been mentioned or hinted at and how they work.
No offense...but I grew bored 50 or so words into it. It's a biographical of a former homeless guy who apparently elevated himself out of it...but no story, detail or otherwise how or why other than "AP."
I can be intrigued by a story....but not one where there is no story. I read the first page and the last. In between it was blank pages.
No offense taken. I’m more interested in knowing about the people than I am the plays, but not everyone is going to share that opinion.
I scrolled through this thread and now it sounds like mod approval is even needed to post AP potentials (which can encompass any kind of promo if you want to be techical)?....
Some of the more exciting posts that lead to intense discussion and debate are AP and potential opportunities, but since AP players are very protective this discussion is also getting quashed.
Sadly none of this is shocking. (I warned in the political ban thread that AP discussion bans would be next)....
Soon people will complain about casual comments on deck penetration at various casinos.....
I honestly don't mind career APs keeping their best plays close. But, threatening a boycott to the point where now any AP-related post requires mod approval, well, that just seems silly....

Are you kidding me? He was wearing
a fricking mask when you met him
for lunch? That's as far as I'm reading,
Anybody who does that, I want every
word out of their mouth verified, and
that's not possible. So I just assume
most of it is made up. Good grief, a
mask.. LOL

I just thought it was a silly joke or he was avoiding detection in the meetup casino. Either way, don’t see the harm.

It’s almost hard to imagine sitting across a restaurant table from someone who is wearing a mask , and not being sure if they are wearing a mask.

Credibilty? Unneeded drama? Taking yourself
wayyyyyyyyy too seriously? If you want to
get interviewed and don't want to be seen
in public, do it someplace private. Wearing
a mask in a public place is a stunt, plain
and simple. That person loses any respect
I might have had for them.

You REALLY didn't read very far into it. The interview was conducted over the phone, the mask thing was when I met DarkOz about 3.5 years ago.

Anybody who admits they read a couple of sentences, then quits and makes a snap judgement about the entire article loses all credibility with me

It was similar to the mask in this 2 minute video and produced by the same company (but was a different facial character)

It doesn't matter if you met him
in the bathroom at the Fremont.
HE HAD A MASK ON ! A grown
man was wearing a mask in public!
And you took him seriously? Good
grief. Why would anybody be
interested in what such a person
has to say.
I remember somebody, I think it was Andy Kaufman's first big-time agent, saying that his first meeting with Kaufman was in a diner, and Kaufman has a big booger hanging from his nose the entire lunch. It turned out to be plastic. Kaufman was just generating reactions from the people around him.
Darkoz may have been doing something similar. He's playing with those around him.

they didn't want to hear it.

Notice there was not one single AP who left when you discussed your systems for beating Roulette? Because that was meaningless drivel
The APs knew there was nothing to fear from the EB roulette system

He wore a mask, it gave me a chuckle. It’s just a completely harmless rib. The only people I don’t take seriously are the ones who already take themselves too seriously.

So to you darkoz doesn't take himself
seriously? He claims to be an author.
Have you read his self published book
on Amazon? It's unreadable. It rambles,
has a confusing plot, confusing characters
and confusing dialog. Yet he takes it very
seriously that he's a great author and
can write a best selling book about
how to be an AP.

I don’t know, I’ve met him once, did a two hour interview with him and have conversed with him here and there after said interview. He’s a guy who likes to have a laugh. I don’t know why he had the mask on in the first place, but he kept it on because he thought it was funny. I thought it was funny.
He writes pretty well on the forum. The way you describe his self-published book, which I haven’t read...probably similar to my articles. I’d probably like it.
I’m unreadable, confusing and have a tendency to meander around aimlessly. At least, that’s what the more positive reviews have said.
(Above = Joke = Ability to not take oneself too seriously)

That was when I first met him 3.5 years ago. I really don’t get why it’s such a big deal. Unusual, sure, but I don’t think I’ve met an AP who’s not unusual in one way or another, myself included.
From a group of people on a public forum hiding their identities behind avatars
That’s not strictly true, but it definitely couldn’t have been the most unusual thing I saw that week.

You're John Steinbeck by comparison.
Look it up on Amazon, half the book
is there to read free.

Now my curiosity is peaking because of all of this discussion and controversy (I guess its good free advertising for the author).

Now I am even more confused. It this the right one? This seems to have nothing to do with gambling or AP (unless it is a segment in the story)?
Also, no Kindle option?

Ok to clear it up.
I wrote a Wizard of Oz sequel (that one in the link) a decade ago. It was while trying to get the same film project greenlit. (Don't listen to EB about anything pertaining to this. The film had the Transformers producer and the Batman producer, Pras Michel of the music group the Fugees working on it etc. It's just difficult to get a film made in Hollywood is all.
In 2012 I started my AP career and have since written a book (memoir really) about my experiences. i have not even attempted to publish it yet as I am too busy doing AP.
But many APs on here are super concerned for when I do publish it. Even just posting one play got them all tangled up in a knot
Meanwhile I was accused of making the play public to sell my book. That could not be further from the truth as the only book available is unrelated to gambling and written a decade ago. I am AP full time now and not writing or working on publishing my projects but after they made the accusations I ran with it and said yeah go buy my book
Does that help?
If you want a gambling fiction short story of mine, start with this one. It's one of my favorites

Oh I see.
So you are both an author who is also an AP, and people are concerned because you are working on a memoir that features AP stories.
I think your book looks interesting, a Modern take on Oz. I would read it if there were an Ebook version. Judging at least how you post on here, I enjoy your writing style. (Slightly off topic)- Did you ever start work on Part II?
As for the AP drama, I think people vastly overreacted. I have commented before about how people get so defensive about even brief recreational AP opportunities.

Again, if you didn't catch it read this story. It's a long short story but I think it is worth the read. The Wiz endorsed it
