I have a distant cousin who was born with kidney and liver issues. He had dozens of operations as a kid and his growth was geatly stunted. He had a dual transplant when he was in his twenties. That was thirty-something years ago. He is still small, and a glance indicates he has had serious medical issues, but he seems to live a pretty everyday life.
I'm signed up as a donor and wish more people would.

Recently went through this with my mother who died at 81. A round Italian woman she died of (unknown) heart disease, mild kidney failure and mild T2D diabetes. Her expressed wish to donate her body to a medical school. She had the proper forms just never filled them out. She was also an organ donor. When she died suddenly of a heart attack at the hospital I inquired about organ donation and the nurse told me they declined organ donation due to age. When I called the medical school to donate her body they wouldn't take her because she didn't authorize in advance. So off to the crematorium and up in smoke she goes. I remember thinking, "Man, what a waste of a good body!"

So, get your paperwork in first!

Did mine, have it in my wallet and my death envelope. The subject came up and I actually showed the car to a co-worker when she asked what it was like. One of the more interesting water-cooler talks I have had.

Marshawn Kneeland - Dallas Cowboys defender who evidently died from a self-inflicted wound after a lengthy police chase. Kneeland had just scored his first TD on Monday night.

Since when is it wrong to assume another golfer may want chicken and ribs for his celebration dinner?

Ever go to a comedy show, and the comedian tells a joke that you didn't think was that funny? Thirty years later, do you still think of him as "that comedian who told a joke that wasn't funny?" Do you obsess over it? Does that define him? Would you talk about it upon his death? I remember it and Tiger wasn't wigging out over it. He said "Why not Chicken Satay?" being he is also Thai. He's so multiethnic that no ethnic stereotype would apply to him anyway.

I call it like I see it and I call that a media-created story, sensationalized for the sake of promoting the media, not Tiger Woods or the PGA. If the media figures weren't all po-faced and droning on about it people would have just thought it a joke between two competitive professionals, a veteran ribbing an impressive rookie, and shrugged. Yellow journalism isn't new and it is toxic to society. Surprisingly prevalent in sportswriting these days though. It's like the sportswriters don't take it seriously and they're using that job as a stepping stone to something really important, like a celebrity gossip job. You'll read an article and they talk about what one player said to another, what a player thinks of his team, what he said about the fans in some town... everything but the score. They might not even mention the sport they were playing.

OJ Simpson was a Heisman winning, Hall of Fame football player and actor who had some popular roles. But he is known today mostly for the misdeeds he was accused of, convicted of and found liable for. Not that anything Fuzzy did comes even remotely close to what OJ did,, but you asked. Kanye West is a multiple award winning musical artist who sold a lot of records and sold out a lot of concerts. He is known mostly today for his erratic behavior and his antisemitic statements. Michael Richards is an Emmy award winning comedian and actor who acted out on the most recognizable roles in television. He is known today mostly for a single and horrible incident of racist statements, sad during a stand-up act. Sometimes, the evil that men do live after them, and the good is buried with their bones. And, unfortunately this is true for Fuzzy. You may excuse racist or prejudicial utterances, but the rest of just and civilized society shouldn't.

And yes, if I go to a live show or see a movie or TV show and I don't like it, I'm not going to like it forever.

So what are we supposed to write about when Tiger Woods dies? Maybe that he was implicated in steroid use, and didn't he get himself in trouble with prostitutes and some crazy sado-maso where he got beaten up? Some sportswriter that would make me!

Blame it on intellectual laziness, because I don't know that much about golf and couldn't detail what about his achievements were so great and what sets him apart from other golfers. So rather than educating myself, I can elicit some giggles at his expense when he's not there to defend himself, talking about sado-maso and his scandals. Not sure how that kind of journalism makes the world a better place.

It's just a bad habit we have gotten in to. There's a name in the Bible that means "accuser," and that is whom we draw near to when we accuse.

Good goes with the bad or you start putting up monuments to people who probably don’t deserve to be put above all others.

Not that anyone does. But we should make note of notable events without whitewashing everything.

I hope people don't judge my life by a poor attempt at humor. Zoeller was an interesting guy in an era when most golfers were pure whitebread.
People who judge others by the worst moment in their life should expect to be treated the same way.

The way I see the Zoeller story is that he publicly apologized with sincerity, and over the years continually acknowledged his mistake. This reaction makes me admire him far more than have hard feelings for his off-the-cuff remark, and both facets should be mentioned when discussing that episode of his life.

I do hope that people live their lives'so that poor attempts at humor aren't comments reinforcing racist stereotypes. There is no excuse.

I also hope that people's worst moments of their lives aren't anywhere near as close to making comments reinforcing racist stereotypes.

But Fuzzy is dead, and may he rest in peace.

Hey, if you didn't like someone in real life, there's no reason that you should start liking them after they're dead. But going to piss on their grave in front of their family is just against common community decency. Unless their family is full of fiends.

That's what I always say. Or did just now.

Priorities need to be rearranged, and consider that bad, bad things can happen in the lives of those who are not so privileged. Oh, how I wish the worst moment of my life was telling a racist joke!

Seriously, can I trade in everything dark and dismal that has touched me in my life, for telling some joke about the differences between people where I squint my eyes or stick my lips out, affect an accent, or something ridiculous along those lines? Those times I was told about murders, arson, sex offense, can I have been just told racist jokes instead? Sign me up!

Walking on water is a pretty high bar to try and meet. Not being a racist, not saying and doing racist things and having no real tolerace for those who do is a very low bar to try and meet. I try to at least meet that low bar. Do you?
