I picked 15-15 because I didn't think it would be Love-30.
I picked Cal State Fullerton as the victor simply because if they make it that far they will have greater motivation than a Top Dog team such as San Diego State.
When does that championship game take place, I'll try to get to a bar with a TV and watch it.
You know this is basketball and not football, right?
NOW you tell me!!!Quote: GWAEYou know this is basketball and not football, right?

Well, I can understand predicting the score as 15-15 -that predicted score is only used as a tie breaker if some one gets the same number of points as you. And lets face it, if Fullerton beats San Diego State in the Championship game, you won't need a tiebreaker to win the WOC contest -or the ESPN contest, lol.
I guess you missed the 15-15 and Love-30 scores as being TENNIS scoring. "twas a joke.Quote: gordonm888Well, I can understand predicting the score as 15-15 -that predicted score is only used as a tie breaker if some one gets the same number of points as you. I was going to say that but figured someone can't win 15-15
Prize pool is $300 which will be $240 for first and $60 for second unless there is a split.
I chose Miami over Loyola=Chicago but Loyola won 64 to 62.Quote: GWAEBtw all brackets are live.
Guess you guys won't be sending me a bottle of champagne when Fullerton plays San Diego. Oh well. C'est La Vie.

I will be impressed, real impressed by anybody that picked Loyola
I hope Loyola wins again. Becoming a fan of Sister Jean

That worked out nicely.

I picked Loyola. They're b-ball fanatics. We (Creighton) played them every year 'cuz, you know, Catholic Universities.
Sadly, even if Creighton gets past.their first round (and they were seeded below their RPI - should've been a 6), they have UVA next. Sigh. Had to take UVA.

I'm impressed
Babs is in first place after one day with 140 out of a possible 160 points. Congrats, Babs.
If you don't know this, go to your bracket and click on the Wizard of Vegas group. You will see the entrants ranked in order, and can now open anyone's bracket and see what they selected.
P.S. I am a Tennessee fan, so I definitely am rooting against Loyola in the round of 32.
Quote: terapinedI will be impressed, real impressed by anybody that picked Loyola
Loyola was only a two point underdog.
Quote: SOOPOOI have played basketball with the Buffalo coaches, and have watched some of the guys practice. I still did not foresee them beating Arizona. The head coach just went from a low 6 figures guy to the next 7 figure guy from a major conference looking for a 'hot' coach.
I hope it is not Pitt, unless he is really that good this wasnt a 1 hit wonder.
Quote: VegasriderI picked L Chicago too but I also picked AZ to win it all. Pac 12, what an embarrassment .
Yep, Arizona loses by 26 in the first round to a 13 seed, and UCLA and ASU get eliminated in the play-in games. I think that's it. Were they any other PAC-12 teams in the tourney? A truly pathetic showing. What in heck happened to PAC-12 basketball?
I am also wondering if the ACC is slightly overrated. Miami was upset by Loyola, and NC State and Virginia Tech both lost games that were essentially a toss-up. #2 Duke beat a #15 seed, but that doesn't mean much. I guess we'll know more after today and by next weekend.

If the players are graduating at a higher rate then the other conferences, I would consider the season a success rather then pathetic.

I researched this, and it is surprisingly difficult to find up to date information, and any specific information for schools or conferences.
I found one article Here listing the top 25 schools (out of the 130 Div 1 football schools) in graduating student athletes. Only 1 PAC-12 school, Stanford (9th best), was in the top 25. The top 5 schools were Northwestern, Duke, Boston College, Miami (Fla) and Rice.
However, 4 PAC12 schools were in the bottom 25 (worst) schools of GSR -graduation rates for student athletes. They were California (4th worst), Washington State (8th worst), Arizona (9th worst) and USC (19th worst).
Creighton forgot to show up.
K-State didn't even play their best guy, and still ran away with it.
Bluejays crapped the nest. 21-9 and bleah. Ah. Well.

The last thing I judge a program on is its graduation rate. That might have been important twenty years ago, but not anymore.
The number of D1 hoopsters who went to school to get an education are far and few between.
UMBC Virginia were tied at the half
UMBC goes on a run, up by 14 with 15:50 left
amazing
Will a 16 beat a 1?
UnderDOG!
Wow, well done UMBC.
Quote: terapinedIf the players are graduating at a higher rate then the other conferences, I would consider the season a success rather then pathetic.
Starting in two years, a share of the basketball TV money will be divided among the conferences based on how many schools can do any one of three things:
(a) Have an average (calculated by taking each sport's number separately and averaging them) one-year APR of 985;
(b) Have an average GSR of 90;
(c) Have a Federal Graduation Rate for athletes be at least 13 points higher than for the student body as a whole.
Watched the whole game
amazing.
Throughout the game, I kept thinking this cant be happening.
I kept waiting for VA to come back
They totally choked. Choked big time

Keep in mind this only happens with teams that have no future nba talent. Virginia has no talent on their team that will go to the nba so the briber behind the scenes picked his spots and paid off the players or at least their main players convincing them this will be their only big pay day.
Quote: ZenKinGThis is why you dont bet ncaa basketball. This game was clearly rigged and the players were bought. Never bet on a sport where players are not paid. Virginia was a 20 point favorite and was the 1st time in ncaa history where a 16th seed beat a no.1 seed and they lose by 20? Fishy at best.

Totally clueless post
If they were going to fix a game with a 22 point spread , it would be fixed such that Virginia wins but does not cover the spread and those behind the fix simply place a normal non attention getting spread bet on UMBC +22. There’s no reason at all to actually have the favorite lose the game as part of any fix. Who does that benefit ? A large moneyline ticket at +2200 odds on a dog is something you’d never see a game fixing entity want any part of. Too unusual , too much attention potential.
Virginia could very easily have shaved points and won by 18 if the game had been fixed.

Zk I am really sorry for you. This is a tough way to live life. Maybe it's rigged and maybe it's not. Either way worrying, complaining, and even thinking about it is putting unneeded stress on your heart.
I had mentally gone thru: University of Missouri, University of Manitoba and a few other possibilities.
Never heard much of University of Maryland much less one in Baltimore County.
Bad news: Because I picked the Virginia Cavaliers to win the whole thing, I have one of the lowest PPRs in the contest and no realistic way to win.
Quote: gordonm888Good news: I had the best bracket in the first round of this contest, went 26-6 and have 260 points out of a possible 320. Some very insightful and skillful picking.

I have not tried to game it all out (lazy) but it appears you are correct. And I would think whichever of you doesn't win will take 2nd. So I am in 3rd with no hope, although i may be lower with Kansas beating Duke in ot. I gave up in disgust when they lost. Sigh and congrats to the both of you.
