Greetings!

This thread is to complement my, "People in Gambling," Article, which this time focuses on Derek Stevens, owner of the operating Golden Gate and The D. Stevens also owns the former La Bayou, Mermaids and Glitter Gulch properties and will soon open a third casino in Downtown Las Vegas.

https://wizardofvegas.com/articles/people-in-gambling-derek-stevens/

I'm not going to lie, this article basically speaks of Stevens in glowing terms...but look at everything he has done! I will say that, if anyone has a contrary view, that would certainly be appreciated for the purposes of balance.

The first two poll options consider whether or not Downtown is better for Stevens being there. The final eight concern your favorite Downtown casino...feel free to choose two or more casinos if you have favorites that you like equally. I had to lump the Boyd properties into one option to get them all in there, so if you choose a Boyd property, feel free to specify in a post which one.

EDIT: I think I still failed to get Golden Nugget in the poll. Oh well, Golden Nugget sucks. Vote for it via post if you like!

One for GN, they always upgrade me to a suite. Great hotel and casino.

I'd have to say that Derek would fit in better in the Philippines. His casinos are gaudy and look more like third world dumps.

Like him or not, you can’t deny that he is almost single handedly transforming downtown into the place to be. In addition to the D, and improvements at Golden Gate, there’s the Event Center...

Gaudy? I used to say that all casinos are gaudy, but the Taj Mahal took it to a whole other level.

Gaudy? LVC, La Bayou, Mermaids and Glitter Gulch weren’t gaudy? And disgustingly dirty?

I'm loving this poll! Not a ton of votes, but those (and the write-in for GN) are spread out!

When Derek Stevens gets rid of the buskers downtown I will vote him King of Las Vegas.

I'm actually going to Vegas to stay at my usual place -A Rush Tower suite at the GN- tomorrow! My vote will always be with them.

I went to the D the last time that I was there, but only to take a peek. I wasn't that impressed.

FYI, for those who didn't know it, Stevens also owns Slotzilla, the downtowns zip line.
