Boring, pointless speech. Just trying to convince the rubes that there’s a crisis at the border and demonize immigrants.

Dems shouldn’t give an inch.

I suggest just giving the 5 to 6 billion directly to ICE, or whatever branch of government is tasked to defend the US/Mexico border, and let them decide how to most effectively spend it. This is such a small amount of money compared to the daily spend of the government.

The agencies responsible for the border are already funded. The whole shutdown is because trump insisted on building a sea to sea wall because that's what he promised his lemmings.

Wow. Former Senator Santorum just acknowledged that he now sees some evidence of collusion.

I didn't see the speech changing general public opinion
The base loved it, the left hated it and it did not convince the center
If the House race 2 months ago were held tomorrow, same result

I thought bringing up those individual horrible crimes was absurd, petty and a dog whistle.
Its a desperation move.

Yea there is a huge drug problem bordering on a national crisis, its opioids.
Its really bad

In other news, BookMaker.eu is taking bets on the number of false statements in tonight's address to the nation by Trump. They opened with an over/under of 3.5. The over is now -320. Wish I had an account there, I'd take the over.

Are the bets being paid yet?

That is the first Trump speech I have ever watched. Then I saw some democrat spokesperson come on and say what Trump said, and it wasn't what I had just watched.

Are wov members going to point out the lies?

I don't want the wall personally because it's ugly and interferes with animal migration, and the effect desired can easily be accomplished by jailing a few employers and not giving entitlements to illegals.

Ron Paul gave his excellent viewpoint on the topic earlier. https://www.cnbc.com/video/2019/01/08/former-us-rep-ron-paul-border-wall-unnecessary-if-us-ends-incentives.html?__source=cnbcembedplayer

The wall is just symbolic bull hooey. All parties recognize this as a manufactured crisis which is why Trump couldn't get his wall while he had control of the Congress. If I were a democrat leader I would pass a matching bill that provides a dollar for each dollar that Mexico directly pays for.

Almost all immigrants become illegals by overstaying their visas. Almost all immigrants who become illegals enter legally at recognized points of entry. Most immigrants are peaceful -- the only law they have violated is civil immigration law. Their violent crime rates are no higher than the general public.

Smart people recognize this. Statistics show that border crossings are down dramatically from the year 2000 when it peaked at 1,643,679 southwest border apprehensions compared to 518,000 last fiscal year. And in the first six months of FY18 only 6 of them were foreign nationals on a terrorism watch list.

There is a humanitarian crisis at the border but it can be solved by processing asylum claims quickly and humanely and sending those who don't qualify back to their country of origin.

Not a chance.

The corporations own Congress.

As for entitlements, NYC is going to provide free medical care to anyone who can not afford it, including illegals. They estimate it will cost $100 million to provide care for 600,000 people. That’s $166 per person.

Our esteemed leaders figured out a way to reduce the costs by $10,000 per person.

But you are talking about individuals with assets many of whom have 2 homes. He was talking about illegals and other lower income people who will flock for free HC. I personally don’t see it happening due to the high cost of living in NY.

And yes, the roads are packed with people who can’t drive and it takes 30 minutes to just get over the causeway into Clearwater Beach.

I don’t disagree, just visit New Port/Port Richey. But I’m not so sure they are all coming from NY. And I thought you were talking about the crowds in Winter. I don’t think the criminals are snowbirds, but yes Florida is attracting more than their fair share.

I'm not sure how bookmaker plans to resolve those bets. "False Statements" is widely open to interpretation.

Does it count misrepresentations? Word games?

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/01/08/fact-check-trumps-speech-on-the-border-crisis-1069539

for example

"Sen. Chuck Schumer, who you will be hearing from later tonight, has repeatedly supported a physical barrier in the past, along with many other Democrats. They changed their mind only after I was elected president."

The first sentence may be strictly true, in that he may have supported "a physical barrier" - but that does not equate with support for a 5 billion / 25 billion dollar wall. Same thing with changing your mind - did they support a wall of the scale that trump is proposing? I don't think so.

I've never noticed Donny wearing a striped tie since he started campaigning. That's the first thing I noticed that seemed off. He seemed out of sorts, like he didn't want to be there. Someone compared it to a hostage video.
Chuck and Nancy were just as bad, maybe even worse. It's as if they were prepared to refute Donny calling a national emergency and had to pull an audio at the line of scrimmage.

So are you blaming the federal government because California is so incompetent that they cannot get their act together?
The "Real ID Act" was enacted on may 11, 2005 so the requirements were not a surprise.

Just because California cares more about illegal aliens, makes itself a sanctuary state, expends efforts to oppose President Trump whenever possible, etc etc etc, than taking care of it's residents, it is the Federal governments fault?

Just to be accurate, many Californians may not be able to fly because the California government failed to make "California Real ID's" compliant with federal regulations.

Additionally, if the California resident possesses a passport or other federally accepted ID, they can fly.

I have no sympathy for any person who may not be able to fly because they were too lazy to meet the Read ID requirements..

I'd say that was one of the worst over/under lines I've ever seen. The free publicity for Bookmaker might be worth the 276K though.

I have to agree. The entire speech including lies and exaggerations was previewed all fall in Trump's rallies, and as recently as that morning by Pence on all the news channels. He got fact-checked a LOT during those, but I guess the book Didnt pay attention.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Called it at 6! Hah.

Math puzzle time!

If we assume the market is efficient and the final Bookmaker.eu lines were fair, then what is the mean number of lies Trump would tell? You may assume the fair lines are half way between the actual over and under, in other words you may assume the fair line on the under should have been +285.

Are we now having a WH meltdown

Trump tweet
" The Mainstream Media has NEVER been more dishonest than it is now. NBC and MSNBC are going Crazy. They report stories, purposely, the exact opposite of the facts. They are truly the Opposition Party working with the Dems. May even be worse than Fake News CNN, if that is possible!"

Trump is going nuts because he cant control the media
LOL

Trump now says he never said Mexico would literally pay for the wall, as in write a check. (LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL)

This is what it said on his campaign website:

Quote:

"It's an easy decision for Mexico: make a one-time payment of $5 (billion)- 10 billion to ensure that $24 billion continues to flow into their country year after year."

Repeat after me, MAGAholes:

"I got conned."

Not here, still believe he is the best or 2nd best President of my lifetime. Still like what Clinton did to reduce welfare benefits and try to make the country more fiscally responsible.

Other than liberals acting like they are compassionate, it’s hard to find another Trump has done to hurt any of our citizens. It’s mostly political with the left having no idea how to deal with a guy who tells it like it is.

You can’t find one issue liberals are upset about that isn’t based on concerns about future elections, period.

I don’t like his spending but it seems neither party cares about that anymore and polls show most Americans don’t either.

That makes me a Proud MAGAhole. Feel free to use it as a negative, not sure why though. Compassionate people understand it’s a beautiful thing used as part of lovemaking in many totally normal relationships.

Trump demonstrates daily just what a dick, what a douchnozzle of a person he really is.

Our accidental president.
