Just to clarify because with scientology so prominent near the area I live , I read a ton about them.
Its not political. Its the wusses at the top of the IRS that caved in. IRS agents opinion, its a business and it should be taxed. Scientology played dirty, real dirty. Its nickel and dime stuff but it gets vicious. They harass all the people high up in the IRS. You own a pet, forget it, its dead. Scino's will find a way to kill it. You have a car, forget it, better to take a taxi. Scino's will mess with it.(no uber back then). Own a house. yup, the vandalism will be constant. Nobody wants to live with that crap on a constant basis. IRS asked scientology if they grant the religious exemption, will the harassment stop. scientology's answer "like a faucet"
Somebody in the govt needs to get some balls and stand up to these punks. Trump?

I'm torn on this issue. Does the possibility of losing rights like being able to vote or own a gun keep some people from committing crimes? I think so.
A lifetime ban is way too harsh but suspending the privilege for a few years seems fair. Five years? Ten years?

I think the punishment for committing a crime should be the sentence handed down by the court.
Violent offenders should probably have their 2A rights taken away, but not necessarily every felon.
I think felons should be able to vote.

I doubt it is a deterrent at all. Most people committing felonies are not in the mindset of worrying about whether or not they will be able to vote in the next election.
I’m also strongly opposed to the death penalty. I wish that topic, and criminal rights in general, were discussed more.

Most released felons have not done the sentence they were given. Between good time, overcrowding and such many are paroled long before their original release date. I can understand people on parole not being allowed to vote.

I agree most times with what you said about being able to pay your debt to society, it's either paid or not.
added: I saw an article someplace that said convicts wanted to get a law passed where there could not be a sentence equal to life, or life plus years. At first I thought of course that's what they want, and then I considered that convicts with life sentences, don't have one single reason to not murder the guards.
Also prisoners at the end of their lives, if the prison wants to release them because of ill health and they have no where to go, or health care, they should have the right to turn down being released.

Just dropped off my 16th person at the polls. They aren't particularly busy as there have been more early voters than the total turnout in 2014.

I agree that the radical leftist ideas that have invaded academia are very dangerous.
But I’ll also add that I was in college not that long ago, and what you are seeing is not how most people my age think or feel.
It’s a small (but dangerous) minority that come up with this kind of garbage. It’s becoming absurd, and I think the tides will start to shift the other direction soon.

I attended the University of Maryland at College Park MD
Took a course in Political science
Don Devine was my Prof
I was quite impressed.

Looks like my shift is ending at noon instead of 2PM. Too many volunteers and not enough passengers. Maybe I'll go offer my Republican counterpart a hug. He's been playing the Maytag repairman for hours. Good guys needed a large turnout in the Valley of Vegas to offset the sparsely populated hinterlands. I've been hearing they wanted X amount of votes out of my district and the powers in charge are very happy about the process so far.

My family is very matriarchal. Both of my Grandfathers died very young. My Dad died at 53, leaving me in college and a sister just turned 12. What my Grandmothers were able to do, with no Social Security or Government help is truly amazing. My Moms Mom was the only female in a very tough business and surprised many a shark who thought he spied a minnow. Even my Mother surprised me.
After my Fathers death, she took a job as a part time book keeper at a place that rebuilt car parts. It was squalid and disgustingly dirty. My heart boke the first time I saw here there and wanted to leave school. Within ten years, she was running a multi-million dollar Building Supply company.
In my family, the men may be upfront, and hold the key positions but there is no doubt who is in charge.
That's why I left the business thirty years ago and why I still keep my involvement at a minimum.

You are speaking for such a small segment of women that’s it’s almost insulting that you think anything changed in the past 2 years to make them vote? Are you saying there are women voting today that stayed home in 2016? That the historical moment of a female as a Presidential candidate wasn’t enough to get them out?
And you seem to forget there is a large segment of GOP women out there just as motivated to vote for continuing the success of today’s America.
Dems may win the House, I’m fine with that. Nothing happening in Washington without a crisis for 2 years is a positive for most of us. No tax changes, no agreements on new spending and the start of arguments for the 20 elections. We all win!

You always trigger me Bill, in both good and no so good ways.
You make me see there is another way of life out there. That there are people who are fine living their life alone and have no regrets. That money and happiness aren’t necessary for everyone. That not everyone has to pay “their fair share” and some have no problem taking instead of contributing. And so much more.
Note these random thoughts may or may actually be relevant to you personally. After all, I have never met you and have no clue how you lead your life. Other than the $1 Steaks, assuming you were telling the truth about them. Could have been a BS story too.
