Let's start a new thread to discuss the disaster of the Trump presidency
Quote: boymimboDespite it being a "disaster" a recent poll showed that 82% of Republicans approve of his job as president.
This is both something and nothing.
Good for him on party loyalty.
Bad for him when considering all registered voters. Last I saw, 23-24% of voters are registered Republican, trending downward. So, you've only accounted for 19-20% of all voters. I'm sure he has a few people who are not Republicans who also approve of his job performance, but that's not a very strong number in itself.

Of course we do! He has been doing a great job while fighting the establishment. The haters will of course keep hating the next 6.5 years, but so what? They will hate any non-Democrat non-liberal out there. The thing is, most only talk to folks who think like they do. They think the rest of the nation hates more secure borders and prefers higher taxes.
So let em hate! Here is to hoping they put forth the most crazy, unelectable person in 2020. They are currently doing an executive search for someone for whom the most minority boxes can be checked. Even talking Michelle Obama, to show how empty their bench is.
Then we can vote Pence in 2024!

Did you think the tariff announcement was a good thing?
Quote: boymimboDid you think the tariff announcement was a good thing?
I'm not sure. But it was clearly a bad thing for the stock market. Since DJT took credit (I think rightly so) for the pretty significant upswing in the market since his election, he definitely owns this (relatively) small downturn. An honest, ego controlled leader (he is not) would say "I know the market went down because of these tariffs, but they are necessary for the following reasons....".
I want a President who is NOT afraid of 'scaring' the market if he feels the policy is overall good for the country. Just admit it and be open and clear.
Trump is God's window into the heart and soul of man.Quote: BlackjackGuy123Still better than Clinton would have been.

Its a terrible thing
Free trade raises the living standard of the entire planet

Thanks, but do you think tariffs and protectionism in today's market are good things? Do you believe Trump when he says that Americans are getting a terrible deal on its trading? Do you also believe that the retaliation that will take place will be good for the consumer?
And more importantly do you think the policies he is enacting are actually good for the country (not symbolically good, actually good)?
Quote: boymimboDid you think the tariff announcement was a good thing?
Sure do. It will likely lead to a better trade deal with the offending nations. This is how smart negotiators operate.
Quote: AZDuffmanSure do. It will likely lead to a better trade deal with the offending nations. This is how smart negotiators operate.
It hurts all the major manufacturers in the USA
It raises their costs and makes their products more expensive
Let help a few workers in steel and aluminum and hurt a lot or workers in manufacturing
The height of stupidity and Economists agree
I believe in CAPITALISM. The market sets the price.

Wrong answer from the libertarian.
Someone who gets a 50-50 question wrong 100% of the time.
Quote: boymimboWrong answer from the libertarian.
Has nothing to do with libertarianism. Trade treaties are a fact of life. Also a fact of life that the USA has too often gotten the short side in our efforts to "look good" or "set an example." They need us more than we need them so look for it to bring them to the table.

Why are trade treaties and the enforcement and negotiation efforts all paid for through your tax dollar thereof a "fact of life" when taxes are not? And exactly when did the US get a bad trade deal besides every one that Obama took part in.
Sorry, looks awfully partisan to me. I am betting if Obama did the same thing you would be jumping up and down about more regulations.
Quote: billryanCan you picture AZz's response if Obama had proposed taking someone guns first, then having due process later?
AZ drinks the Trump kool ade
AZ is generally for capitalism setting the market prices
Untill Trump wants tariffs
Now AZ is against the market place setting the price and wants the Govt to set the price
ROTFL
Quote: billryanCan you picture AZz's response if Obama had proposed taking someone guns first, then having due process later?
I wouldn't be surprised if the righties (not just AZ) actually do believe that Obama proposed taking people's guns away before due process.
Obama also didn't joke about staying in office indefinitely like Trump did.

Quote: President Obama"I actually think I'm a pretty good President. I think if I ran, I could win. But I can't," Obama ad-libbed during a speech in Ethiopia. "There's a lot that I'd like to do to keep America moving. But the law is the law, and no person is above the law, not even the president."
Quite a sense of humor he has. The law is the law. Too funny. <-- sarcasm
Quote: Trump"He's now president for life. President for life. No, he's great. And look, he was able to do that. I think it's great. Maybe we'll have to give that a shot some day."
A snarky comment about that last sentence might result in a call from the g-men. At least I said Trump was joking when he said this. Do you think he was serious?
Xi, who just became President for life in China.
That murderer in the Phillipines who's a virtual dictator.
And of course Putin, who kills his opposition and independent journalists, and has been in power for about 20 years, either himself or a puppet in front of him.
Gack. We really, really need 2018 to be a backlash and impeach him out of there.
Sadly I don't know if I agree with that... The one thing trump did (or his advisers did) that was actually really smart was to somehow get Pence on the ticket. That guy is a piece of work. If he was the president he would sign anything repealing gay rights of all sorts, probably try to make religion mandatory in schools (only christianity though), and so much worse. Look in to pence a bit more and you'll be like "oh my god this guy is ONE fat heart attack away from being president?!?!" And if we got really crazy the next up would be Paul Ryan. It's a LOOOOOOOOOOOSE fest. At least trump will accomplish virtually nothing, so long as he doesn't get us into a war... Pence would actively try to set this country back 50+ years.Quote: beachbumbabs...Gack. We really, really need 2018 to be a backlash and impeach him out of there.
We just need to let all the trumpsters hymm and haw about making 'murica great again then vote donald out overwhelmingly in 2022. At least that's my hope, that the hundreds of millions that didn't vote in the 2018 election realize the mistake and make the effort to correct. Only about half of the "adult" US population voted... 65 mill vs 62 mill (approximately) and we have another, approximate, 125 million that could have voted (at least according to 2014 census data, so it's actually probably higher than that now). Whomever runs against trump just needs to put a highlight reel of the guy saying/doing/being the idiot/racist/rapist/bigot that he is together and just at the end go "Do you really want this s**t to happen again? Seriously... vote this time." The end.

2018 election
Whomever runs against trump...
A triple whammy!
Can’t vote out The Don in 2022 because there’s no presidential election that year. It’d be either 2020 or 2024 (I’m optimistic on a Trump in 2024, too!).
2018 election hasn’t occurred yet. It’s in November, later this year. If they let me, I’ll write in “Donald Trump for president” on the mid-term ballot.
Idk how it’s all gonna play out in the 2020 election. It’s still like 2.5 years away. But at this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump wins again (as he should). It seems like a lot of the liberals have quieted down in the recent months, which is nice. Although idk if that’s because more people are shifting towards conservative or the election was so long ago.
Not everybody can export peace and love like the MIC.Quote: beachbumbabsAnd of course Putin, who kills his opposition and independent journalists, and has been in power for about 20 years, either himself or a puppet in front of him.
It seemed she was going to win since Trump was saying really weird, misogynistic, arrogant, racist things. He sounded ignorant. Whereas Clinton sounded smart, concerned, and warm.
People actually said,"I'm not voting this election since the Media says Clinton is predicted to win in a landslide victory anyways."
I personally voted for Clinton anyways because I had a moment of clarity and thought," There is a chance Trump can win,no matter how far ahead the media says Clinton is. I really don't want to be that infamous one vote that caused him to be President. "
A lot of people were in for a rude awakening when Trump won. You could see the shock on their faces. People even said stuff like,"I wish I voted for Clinton. I shouldn't have blindly trusted the media. "

Raising taxes and putting up barriers to free trade; taking our guns away before due process; wanting to bring us a dictatorship. It’s the liberals who are loving Trump this week

You mean when he was suggesting firearms should be confiscated from potentially dangerous people without a court’s approval? I'm on board with that.Quote: TomGRaising taxes and putting up barriers to free trade; taking our guns away before due process

Taking away constitutional rights based on “potential” is definitely something the liberals like Trump and AZDuffman want. We’ll see if they have more success with that than they do with their Wall
Quote: AZDuffmanI see no dictatorship.
But it’s what Trump wants. Fortunately he lacks the competence

The times are a changing
Liberal Trump and AZ against the free market. They want the govt to set steel prices.
I have always supported a free market. Trump and AZ out flanked me on the left and going full liberal supporting the steel unions
I lean left, but not as far left as Trump and AZ on this issue
amazing

This is the stuff that liberals do.
They say someone doesnt joke around about stuff...
They are proven wrong....
They say the guy has a sense of humor... implying they were still correct
So obama doesn't joke, he has a sense of humor and that makes you right?
lololololololololololololololololololol
The fact you are wrong isn't the issue, it's the fact you still think you are right.
Quote: ams288Nope.
Also, Hillary did win the popular vote, by roughly 3 million votes, which is what a lot of those polls were measuring.
So its the same pollsters who don't know how to take a poll?

What's encouraging about what you posted is that it's from CNN. Ironic that CNN is a fine source of news when you are trying to make a point that fits your narrative, but it's #fakenews in all other situations.

The polls tightened right before the election and several had it within the margin of error. Thanks Comey!
Wait, I thought the FBI was in cahoots to get Hillary elected? There goes that theory!

Crap...never mind. This might work.
US already has a 2.5% tariff on imported German cars, they have a 10% tariff on US cars. Don't know what it is now, but in the 90's, US beef was 80$ per pound in Japan. US cars had to be dis assembled and reassembled in Japan. Bangladesh chains kids to work tables to make shirts for WM, and chains the emergency exits. I'm talking about your pollsters whom you give a pass to because they don't know how YOUR PRESIDENT became YOUR PRESIDENT.
If they don't know how an election for the President of the United States works, do you really think they should be polling?
If you still think they should be polling, do you think anyone would give them any credibility since you admit they don't know what they are doing?
