I found it interesting the following tidbit I read in a book I will be reviewing soon for this site.

The name Blackjack came from the turn of the century when the game was offered as simply 21.

Some card halls and casinos started offering a bonus to players who got 21 with a jack of clubs or spades. In otherwords, any black jack.

The dealers would yell out "black jack".

When the rules eventually encompassed any natural 21, the anachronism stuck.
