So you have drug containers, and a great deal of cash.
Even the dumbest cop can add 2+2 and come up with 4.
How do you feel you were wronged.
Quote: BuzzardYeah, have your attorney put the dog on the witness stand. Try and subpena the financial records of that cop. Spend 40K to try and get your money back.
Think about it. No charges filed, money confiscated because the dog hit on it. Take that dog to the local bank and arrest all the people
who work there.

You think those state troopers are all Sherlock Holmes. More like Barney Fifes. Let's pull over as many guys as fit our profile and search their vehicles.
Same theory as city cops use in pulling over drivers for DWB.

You and the rest of the law and order types are not not going to like this......there will be no criminal case......the full weight of the constitution with come down on the MF'ing pirates if they even try........

You don't have to be charged with a crime for the police to take your money. All you need to have is a suspicion. Read Kansas' forfeiture statutes

Forgot about treetopbuddy. Listen: innocent people are being robbed. It happens! You guys can obsess over the details of this incident, but the truth is that you're glossing over the real tragedy, and it's nothing to do with this one instance. It's an immoral practice that is taking place of police officers robbing innocent victims as they get snagged in the snares designed to hit drug smugglers in the pocketbook.
I would guess, myself, that our treetopbuddy may have broken zero laws in Kansas regardless of whether or not he used, bought, or sold marijuana in another state. And that is *ALL* that Kansas should be concerned about.
An honest cop would have said, well, you were smart to leave the pot at home because if you had it here, we'd be keeping your money.
But the cops are standing on a higher moral ground and operating beyond the scope of the laws and deciding without due process if you are guilty and operating accordingly.
In my view, this problem isn't about our treetopbuddy. This problem is about our failed war on drugs and how it affects folks that are not guilty of any crime, yet get punished without due process in clear violation of our rights given by the fourth amendment of the Constitution of US.

Treetop, maybe contacting the press might be appropriate, and perhaps your state and federal representatives, too. One well known strategy is to focus interdiction efforts on out-of-state rental cars. And given Treetop was a single male driving one with a ton of cash, this is not a surprise.

In this version of the story, you don't sound as "polite" as you had claimed in the OP. So what else have you left out? Did your car reek of weed? Also, it sounds like you were argumentative from the get-go. Why??

You're ordering him around, telling him how to do his job.
Quote: Beethoven9thShouldn't you have outgrown the pot phase about 30 years ago?!?
I think you're missing the point entirely. I think you're in denial.
Lots of people use marijuana or other "crimes" as a justification for this activity.
The problem has nothing to do with the crimes being used by the officials as part of the extortion process.
The problem is the extortion process itself.
Keep talking about marijuana, and you'll never understand the problem. In the future, it could be some other random thing that's the crime.
Marijuana just happens to be one of those things that is very easy to find (because it smells so much and has such a peculiar odor) that it is often used.
Nobody smells LSD in the car, you know. So that doesn't get used a lot.
Marijuana is pretty much harmless. The fact that it stinks so much is why law enforcement likes it so much because it's so easy to hone in on that as a justification for taking property and generating income. The cops LOVE marijuana because it's so easy to use as a way to get money for themselves from their victims.
I think it's probably the #1 justification for forfeiture, just wild-ass guessing. You can smell pot from a mile away, so take all their stuff if you smell it boys!!!
Huh?? What am I in denial about? Most people experiment with pot when they're young, and then they stop as they get older.Quote: AhighI think you're in denial.
Double huh?? The point is that I'm responding to the OP's initial post and subsequent comments.Quote: AhighI think you're missing the point entirely.
