I'll be heading out that way in a month or two. Any preference between Resort World and MBS.

Bit concerned about their environmental smoke problem, somebody advised me to avoid the place as things are pretty bad at the moment. If tourist numbers drop, should I expect to get a decent room for a knock down price? Any suggestions / web sites on how best to grab myself a good deal???

Hello. I've never been to Singapore but did do some "research". As of my last information, Resort World doesn't have craps and Marina Bay Sands does. As for room prices, they seem to hold at very high big city prices. I've never seen a promotion for the MBS. There is a chain of hotels in Singapore whose name is not coming to mind, but they have a number of properties less than $100.usd a night. I'll think of it and edit later. Good luck.

That's okay as I only play baccarat and I'll have no problem finding a game in the East.

I was more interested in finding out if Hotels will drop their rates as tourists vacate the place.

You mean Hotel 81? Hotel prices in Singapore are very expensive. I think I paid $65-$70 U.S. for the most basic room in a hotel near the city center. It was so basic it was almost a hostel, but it was in a good neighborhood.

No, I meant "Fragrance Hotel". There are many as it appears there are the one you link. Depending on the length of stay one might just bite the bullet and get a nicer hotel near MBS. $200.usd a night reads and sounds like a lot but I guess for this bunch of high rollers no big deal.
ps: A friend stayed in "India Town" to save money and hated it.

In Singapore you get what you pay for. The cheaper hotel chains such as mentioned by other posters are sufficient, just. They are cheaply built, with concrete floors in the corridors, and so are noisy, and not relaxing in my experience. The rooms are also very small often without windows. I have given up on them. They tend to be full of families with kids and tour groups who make a noise day and night. They also don't know how to keep the TV volume down.

I have booked a week in Singapore in August staying at Copthorne Kings. Its a proper hotel with carpet on the floors, quiet rooms and room service. I am paying about S$180/night. (The cheaper chain hotels are around $100/night for the same period). The Holiday Inn Atrium is excellent but was sold out for my travel dates. In my view its well worth the extra cost for a good nights sleep.

As for websites check http://www.hotelclub.com for good Asian hotel rates.

The smoke from the Indonesians burning the rainforest is a perennial issue. I would say that in a month or two it should be gone.

Volume is free in Asia, therefore, people naturally think they have to turn it up, especially the poor or those on a "budget".

I read somewhere that MBS runs 98% occupancy, so deals there are unlikely.

Locals and Malays prefer Resort world. Foreigners, specially on company expenses prefer MBS. As far as smoking, Resort world has two separate areas. Smoking area is enclosed. Non-smoking section is much larger than smoking section. Resort World bathroom could be a long walk - they have only two barthrooms (one in each section). Take your passport with you (at either places) or you would have to pay huge entry fee. I personally liked Resort World due to their huge non smoking area.

Hi BHappy, when I mentioned smoke, I was referring to the air pollution problems due to the Indo burn offs.

I think it is gone for now and replaced by massive hail stones. Thanks for the info regarding the casinos.

I have stayed at MBS a couple of times. Definitely prefer it to Resorts World from an accommodation point of view. Pollution is not an issue whenever I've been there. It's great to relax by the pool. Pay the extra $100-150 per night for a Club room to get access to the club up on the pool level at the top. The buffet breafast and evening cocktails & canapes will mean you will eat and drink more than the price difference each day.

If you are going with kids then stay at Resorts World as you'll be able to keep them occupied at Universal Studios and other attractions on Sentosa.

Gaming is much the same at both casinos with a heavy baccarat focus. Both places would have a few hundred baccarat tables each. I prefer MBS as they have a few craps tables.
