I don't know if any of you still hold any NTEK, but I see they just bought a shell company and are going to spin off Nanotech Gaming and try and list it on the pink sheets.

I hope it all works out well for AHigh, but it just looks like a money grab to me.

yup, I still hold ntek.

My 2 cents..........I gave it a quick read. 7 or 8 companies? Really? A sum total of a few million in business? What's up with that? Smells of an attempt at a lot of financial engineering.

Re-structuring just means that their current business plan isn't working, or has failed. Not good. Switching auditors? Usually not a good sign.

Too many negatives here.

Exactly my thoughts. I also don't see that they have filed any 10Q's lately.

Bloomberg article out regarding FCEL. Billion $ near term opportunity? Hmmmm.......I can't buy that estimate, but I hope it's close.

(Bloomberg) -- Here’s a way to reduce the cost of removing greenhouse gases from coal-fired power plants: use the fumes to make electricity.

That’s the basic idea that FuelCell Energy Inc. is testing, and the company said Wednesday its fuel cell systems can absorb as much as 90 percent of the carbon dioxide from smoke stacks for less than $40 a ton.

That’s a bit more than half the cost of existing carbon-capture and storage technologies. Coal plants are the biggest source of greenhouse gases that are blamed for driving climate change. While there’s widespread agreement emissions from power plants need to be reduced, the cost has been a deterrent.

“We’ve known for years that this could work,” Chip Bottone, FuelCell’s chief executive officer, said in an interview Thursday. “Now we know it’s a cost-effective solution.”

FuelCell’s systems produce electricity through a chemical reaction that combines natural gas and air.

The Danbury, Connecticut-based company has been testing a fuel cell that uses natural gas and simulated flue gases. That can reduce the emissions from a coal plant, while offsetting some of the costs by selling the electricity.

For example, at a 500-megawatt coal plant that produces power at about 6 cents a kilowatt-hour, adding 400 megawatts of fuel cells would capture 90 percent of emissions and increase the cost to about 8 cents a kilowatt-hour, Bottone said. Including a federal investment tax credit that applies to power from fuel cells and other clean technologies, would lower that to about 7.5 cents.

Government Funding

The $40-a-ton cost is lower than a target set by the U.S. Energy Department when it agreed to back FuelCell’s research. The company received more than $3.8 million in government funding for the research that began in 2011. The chemical process also can eliminate 70 percent of smog-forming nitrogen oxides.

Scientists have developed liquid amine technology to strip carbon dioxide from coal-plant smokestacks at a cost of about $70 per ton when spread over 30 years of operation, according to the Energy Department.

The Energy Department last month pulled its support for a carbon-capture project, FutureGen Industrial Alliance Inc., that was initially proposed more than a decade ago. The agency had spent $202 million on the Illinois plant, but backed out after determining that its sponsors would miss a September deadline to get the plans finalized.

FuelCell is talking with U.S. power producers and regulators in coal producing states like Wyoming and West Virginia and may set up a pilot test within two years, Bottone said.

Capturing emissions from 1 percent of existing U.S. coal plants would require about 120 megawatts of fuel cells, representing a $1 billion near-term market opportunity, Bottone said.

“There’s a lot of money on the sidelines now wanting to test this,” he said. “It can be done incrementally. Implementation doesn’t have to be painful.”

Out this month's stock screen, I find myself intrigued with ARAY. The first treatment using the below item was completed on 03/02/15. Going to try to look into it a bit further, but so far I would say that I would be buying on Monday. Looks tremendously undervalued to me. Downside is that it has been on a bit of a run.

"The company offers the CyberKnife System, a robotic stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiation therapy system used for the treatment of various types of cancer and tumors in the body. Its CyberKnife System automatically tracks, detects, and corrects for tumor and patient movement in real-time during the procedure, as well as enables delivery of precise, high dose radiation while patients breathe normally."

I now have a change of heart with the release after the close of NVIV's financials. The numbers don't matter, it is what was mentioned in the verbiage.

"Initiated pilot trial with Neuro-Spinal Scaffold

In 2014, the first-ever implantation of the company’s Neuro-Spinal Scaffold took place. In the months that followed, an appreciable improvement in the first subject’s motor and sensory function was reported (improved from AIS A to C) as well as complete recovery of bowel function and improvement in bladder function. The second-ever implantation of the Neuro-Spinal Scaffold was done in January 2015.'

Key phrase is "complete recovery of bowel function and improvement in bladder function."

I know it is only one patient, but it is very encouraging. Some with this type of injury regain those functions without the use of a scaffold so it is still a wait and see on the 2nd. patient who was implanted in January.

Also, this:

"Accelerated pilot trial timeline with FDA

In December 2014, InVivo was able to expedite the original subject enrollment plan by eliminating mandatory holds between enrollment of the final three subjects, thereby reducing the clinical timeline. Barring any significant safety issues, concurrent enrollment of subjects three through five is anticipated to open by the end of March 2015. "

Moving it along pretty quickly. Also encouraging.

Looking like my change of opinion here was the right call. Interesting info on Patient #2's gofundme.com site.

I will probably look to add BRDR between today and tomorrow. It first appeared in the stock screen run of November. The value just seems too compelling at 1X's sales + $60M when they have in excess of $100M to the positive on their Balance Sheet current ratio. Add in the fact that sales are projected to grow at 20% over the next 5 years and I just can't resist.

BRDR up 8+% today for no discernible reason, but deserved since it has gotten to be terribly undervalued, in my opinion.

They had declared a reverse split in order to get an uplisting from an over the counter issue to trade on the Nasdaq. The split was a 1 for 4. Everybody ends up with 25% of their original position in terms of shares. Everybody's total value stays the same since the price per share quadrupled.

Below is the summary of the monthly stock screens. Awfully nice return with a near tripling up of the S&P 500 returns over the same period. The stock screens seem to be performing very well. The test however, will be a down market. So far.....so good.
I'll be running a screen for this month shortly.

Below is a recap of the picks that I have made here. Hell......even I'm impressed. BTW, yes, you can say that the bulk of the gains currently are due to 1 issue. However, this is my MO. I pick issues with excellent returns and in the process end up with the ones that return a multiple of the initial investment. CCIH is one that was sold and gave me a great return.....and I sold that one waaayyyy too soon. The current superstar is NVIV.

SVA announces earnings soon. I still have great hope for that one.

Just to expound a bit on my SVA comment, they will announce Q4 earnings which I would not expect to be anything other than mediocre. However, what I do expect (Hope for) is an announcement that their EV-71 vaccine is approved in China and under review by the WHO (global sales). I believe that they may be a bit ahead of the curve compared to others on this. Good news on both of those fronts would, I think, give this issue a big boost. China approval alone should bump it up some.

I make the following observation in looking at the monthly stock screens and that is that one could do awfully well in mining those screens. I need to do a more thorough job of that although, in doing so, I realize that I don't have unlimited funds and cannot always add one as a pick. I'll need to figure that out. Not an advocate of margin.

For example I find that the screen run of 03/28/15, just a couple of weeks ago, picked DSKY and it is up 42.96% at this writing.
The screen run of 03/07/15 had picked PKT, up 26.16% since then.
The screen run of 02/17/15 had a couple of big ones in ENZY, up 58.45%, GLOB which is up 57.34%, and AAOI which is up 43.25%.
The screen run of 01/17/15 had several 40%+ winners, led by ARUN with a gain of 45.56%. AAOI was also picked on 01/17/15 and is up 68.80% since that point.
The December run, although crap in total, did pick ANAD and it has a gain of 76.32% and NPTN with a positive 55.82%.
November's run contained SQNM and it is up 52.58%.
There was no October run, but September picked GIMO and it has gained 107.41%.
The August run brought INFN for a gain of 122.86%....wow, along with NTWK which has gained 74.65% and MMS showing a gain of 67.34%.
July brought DTSI with a gain of 90.77%.

My guess at who the potential big winners are out of the run just made this past weekend are ATEN & HIVE. Will try to do further research in the next few days.

steeldco,

format note: this thread went format-crazy, so I dug in to find out why. I fixed your entries to date, but the weirdness stems from how you close a table. You were putting "tbl" between brackets both opening and closing a table. Instead, you need to open with "tbl" between brackets (as you are now), and close with "/tbl" between brackets to end it (adding a leading forwardslant), or the table formatting carries over into subsequent posts.

So a week after the last screen run, ATEN is indeed the largest gainer, but HIVE is the 3rd. ATEN is up 9.07% and HIVE is up 6.92%
The second largest gainer is XCRA with 7.85% in gains over the last week. Not too shabby for a week.

I see where 2 of the current open positions have taken a shellacking so far today. Both ARAY & RKUS are down considerably. Certainly no worries about RKUS and ARAY is down to a ridiculous valuation at just over 1X's sales. For a company projected to grow in excess of 35% annually? That's just insane............god, I hate to double up so I'll resist for now.

Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) jumped 4.15% today. One of my favorite stocks -- the have a huge refining capacity and own pretty much every gas station around me. I own a small position. I tried to double down on shares this morning because it closed at $98 yesterday. But I couldn't get my order filled. I missed out on a really good day. How do you make sure your order gets filled for the closing price?

Also, airline stocks skyrocketed today. Anybody know why? I bought into Jet Blue (JBLU) yesterday. I see enormous upside potential for them.

Should always be this way......LOL.

I've been reading about earnings plays.

Volatility crush is amazing. I can't believe I never noticed the crazy swing in implied volatility before.

How do you make sure your order gets filled for the closing price?

Teddy, trying to figure out if this is just a rhetorical question? Just how do you go about making your trades?

I use Vanguard. Their online brokerage platform is rather slow and clumsy. But I have many other investments with them (IRA, taxable account), that it just makes sense to trade there. I have some free trades left.

I am mostly a buy and hold investor. I don't get in and out of positions. I guess I am more for capital preservation and slow growth. (It would be nice to see some growth, lol) I have a mix of large and small caps -- mostly companies I like. To be honest, it's probably a waste of time. I should just ultra-diversify and let it sit there. I have too much time on my hands, though. Nothing worse than an active investor, lol :)

It would be fun to have a sandbox of certain amount like steeldco and play around with small caps.

yeah, Steeldco is having a lot of fun. He sure makes it look easy. We aren't having any schadenfreude fun LOL.

As for me, too long in the tooth for [almost] anything but bonds and index funds.

Getting back to your comment, I guess you were just joking, so no suggestions ... probably be a case of the pupil trying to instruct the master anyway

[PS: all the schadenfreude fun might involve following the +EV on online BJ thread ... we shall see]

If you want schadenfreude, try following my online casino travails with Las Vegas USA. $13,000 locked up. But I am silent for now because I think we might be making actual progress. We shall see.

I was not joking about making orders. I need tips on how to get the price I want. Say AAPL closes one day at $125. How do I get that price executed at market open the next day? After hours trading?

teddys, AAPL is lower than $124 now. U can place a "market" order now. I also think it's a good buy. Carl Icahn will jump out and scream if the price does not go up soon.

teddy, with Vanguard you surely can select a 'limit' order.

I assume the 'market' order is what is giving you trouble.

With the limit order, you can say what price you want for buying or selling. The other side has to be making that available of course. But you should never have to pay more than you wanted, or sell for less than you wanted.

I don't have a Vanguard account of that type, can't walk you through it, but at some point some drop down list should come up for the type of order you want to make.

You can't be guaranteed to get the price at which an issue closed on the following day. If you want the closing price then the best you can do is issue a buy at close order on the day you want the closing price.
