The 1500X2 suite is one of the few true 2-bedroom suites on the strip (for less than $500/night.) Two bedrooms, each with a bathroom, and a spa-tub in one. Living room and dining room areas and a wet bar with wrap-around windows make these rooms a real treat. We took advantage of the stay-2-get-1 night offer last year at about $299/night. This year we got a $199/night rate over thanksgiving!

I am staying at theHotel next week connected to the MB so I put this here. I am bringing my 17 year old son. Does anybody know if he can go to the rated PG pools and beaches by himself or does he need me to go with him? He looks older but does he need id besides a room key to get in and be left alone? Thanks

If he looks older, I'm sure he can get in by himself. But even if he couldn't, if you went with him to the pool, and then left, he could stay all day without a hassle.

Mandalay Bay charges the most per room of any MGM-MIRAGE strip hotel except for ARIA and BELLAGIO. At the same time it is becoming one of the least profitable hotels for the company. The press releases blame the lack of convention business. But it is in a very remote location to pay so much money.
Personally, I would favor the MGM Grand for the location and much better price. If you crave a larger room, the Signature Suites should provide. I like Mandalay Bay and it's a nice place to visit, but it is pretty isolated to stay here.
The company that built the 11 year old tram to Excalibur can now build similar transport systems much longer than the Vegas Monorail. It uses a cable pulled system similar to ski lifts which are very quiet. I've felt that MGM should invest in another one that leaves from between Luxor and MB and goes to Bellagio via the street by the Interstate. It would go a long way to making the property feel less isolated.

Yeah, but there is already a proposed monorail expansion project that will link them....as well as the airport, and downtown!Quote: pacomartinI've felt that MGM should invest in another one that leaves from between Luxor and MB and goes to Bellagio via the street by the Interstate. Thus far all the hotel trams have the same problem as the monorail: the stations tend to be too far from both the Strip and the casino. The Hilton is the exception, and it's the one Monorail hotel not on the Strip.
From MB it may make more sense to simply take the Deuce up-Strip, or simply walk across and up one block and catch the ACE. If you're not prepared to walk about 10,000 times as much as you ordinarily do, you're a Vegas newbie ;)

Proposed is the primary word here. They will be lucky to stay open rather than build more extensions.
MGM needs to take it on themselves to integrate their properties better. Revenue has been plunging at both Mandalay Bay and Luxor to the tune of $650K per day in 2009. It cost $66milion to build that short tram at City Center, so maybe this one will cost $100m (without any intermediate stops). On a ten year finance scheduled it may pay off in the long run.
I think they will have to sell Mirage. If they can get a billion dollars for that resort, then it will help with these deficits.

They also need to advertise it better. They need to make it easier or more obvious to get to the tram rather than going outside and maybe "accidentally" wandering into a Harrah's property.

Just got back for Thehotel at Mandalay Bay(need a listing for Thehotel). It was very nice. The room was more like a large apartment; 2 bathrooms with TV's inside, 4 tv's total, 1 over 50 inches, huge living room with separate desk area, all marble bathrooms, great beds, bathrobs, slippers. No coffee pot, but coffee bar right downstairs open at 5am. I got my usual bottom floor near the elevator and it was great. No noise at all. Got right on the elevator without a wait or long walk. Pool was nice but packed. Now all pools are public instead of JUST for the hotel guest. I do not like that. I stay somewhere for the privelidge of the services, not to interact with the general public. Staff was great. The hotel is isolated but taxi's are easy right out the back to the middle of the strip for 15 bucks. Not a big deal. The hotel is dark because of the design, black and white decoure. Not my favorite. It was all comped. I would not pay $469 a night for anything. Just the way I was raised.

There's a tram, and also a hall way between the two. I tend to walk between Luxor and MBay and Excalibur, but I like the exercise.

Yeah, I guess "comped" sure makes a difference, though there has been recent publicity about Overstockdotcom wholesaling rooms at Mandalay Bay's Four Seasons which seems to be the top four floors of its TheHotel.
I would assume that those who book through OverStock could not get their rooms comped by the casino since the money has been already paid to Overstock. Personally, I'd never deal with firms such as Overstock.
So I guess its a matter of whether you know in advance your play is likely to get you a room comp.

How does MB compare to the Mirage, equal or better?

Just stayed at a standard room at the Mandalay Bay.
The layout of the room made it feel very cramped. Once you enter the room, you have to walk down a narrow hallway into the main bedroom. The benefit is that the bathroom opens directly into the bedroom. The room was definitely showing its age, the sheets, chair and carpet were a bit warm, and the dark blue colors of the room was not a pleasant feeling.
Water pressure was very good, however, the toilet splashes when flushing, which is very gross.
For the same price, I would definitely stay at the MGM (in their wellness suites) for the convenience and larger property. I found the lunchtime food options to be very limited at the MB. The free tram to the Excalibur and Luxor is pretty convenient but I also enjoy walking to the Luxor.
edit: The pool area was definitely very solid though. The cardio center was small (less than 20 machines total), with two benches and a small set of barbells.
