I'm hoping to meet Mr. Gaughan on my birthday trip to Las Vegas next month. We spend a lot of time at the El Cortez, so it seems likely. I'm not sure how to pronounce his last name, though. My internet searches on the subject haven't turned up anything, so I'm turning to y'all.

Any good intelligence on the proper pronounciation of his name?

It's pronounced like the word gone.

I've always heard it like Gow-an, but I'm by no means a definitive source...

It is like the word "gone". He plays for about an hour nearly every day, so you are likely to see him. He often eats in the restaurant instead of having the food delivered to his room.

He really can't walk around and greet people. I would say hello and talk with him, but don't offer to shake his hand. He will be age 90 soon and they are concerned about the transmission of cold viruses. They don't announce when he will come downstairs as security is still a concern for a man of his net worth. He is never alone on the floor.

Although he finally sold the business to his long time partner, he is entitled to remain in the penthouse for the rest of his life. After losing his wife, and one son he has chosen to remain in his home. His other son, Michael Gaughan owns the South Point casino but Jackie has never wanted to live in the suburbs. The mayor is planning a big ceremony this fall for his 90th.

Thanks. I wasn't planning to buddy up to him. I just wanted to take the opportunity, if it presents itself, to tell him how much we love the casino. Obviously, that goes a lot more smoothly if I know how to pronounce his last name.
