One of the biggest challenges is getting tickets. There are various dates for ticket sales and at widely varying prices. Last year, if memory serves me correctly, tickets cost anywhere from $400 to $1200. I felt a bit of a sucker paying the $1200 price, but that is what happens if you don't plan in advance.
For 2019 I believe they are doing the cheap ticket sale first, which I applaud. However, from stories from previous years, it is basically a gamble getting through their site to buy them on that date, as everybody is trying to.
I hope I'm not violating any of the 10 Burning Man Principles in saying that even if you don't want to attend, you can help your fellow WoV members or friends in general go by trying to help them get a ticket on whatever date they have the initial sale. I want to go on record as say that it is against Burning Man principles to sell tickets at a profit. However, I don't think it breaks any rules to sell tickets to friends at your cost and it certainly helps nurture friendships to do favors for each other.
That said, the first step is easy. You have to create a Burner Profile. You have to just put in a user name, real name, and Email address. Then verify it through a link they will send to your Email address, which will ask for a bit more information. You must have a Burner Profile to buy tickets.
Also, if anyone is serious, I may be able to squeeze you into my group. I am not in charge, so can only make recommendations.
I will keep this thread updated when dates are announced for the ticket sales. However, again, you can get your Burner Profile ready now. It takes only about five minutes and there is no obligation.
The question for the poll is what are your plans for Burning Man 2019?
BTW, my Burning Man video from last year is by far my most successful YouTube video. It currently ranks 5th for a YouTube search on "Burning Man 2018."

I could he misunderstanding who may buy tickets on this date. It also seems to indicate a limit of 2 tickets per credit card request.
Thanks for looking to this. This will have my full attention starting around 11 AM Wednesday and I'm happy to communicate via PM or phone as I try to figure out the next step myself. I think you just have to log into your Burning Man profile and take it from there.
That said, here is some Burning Man 2019 Ticket Information. The important dates are March 20 for the $1,400 tickets and April 10 for the $425 tickets. If you buy in the first sale, you can't buy again in the second one. However, you are allowed to sell tickets at cost. I'll just say that.
If anybody is interested in helping me procure tickets, please let me know. This is a way to do a solid favor for me. If I have helped you win more, or lose less, in the casinos, please consider it. Thank you.
Quote: WizardI misunderstood what kind of tickets were being sold tomorrow. That is the "group sale," where you have to be part of a pre-approved mutant vehicle of major art installation, which I'm not. Would like to be in the future, if I think of some idea. My apologies for the false alarm.

What if multiple people on here procure you tickets? Will you buy them all and resell them? I wouldn't mind helping you but I sure don't want to get stuck with four tickets.

Sadly, only one person has offered to help so far and I'm not sure how serious he was. However, I will absolutely promise to buy tickets at cost. I will have no problem re-selling them at cost.
The vibe I get from reading the manifesto on the ticket site regarding excluding a certain group for not strictly adhering to all the values expounded by the committee, and taking steps to shun small businesses that were arranging services like convenient shelter, food, and water sure sounds cult like.

Yet the "non profit" organization wants to charge people hundreds of dollars for a spot in one of the least desirable places on Earth.
1. Set up a Burner Profile. This is easy and can be done anytime. I think I explained how in an earlier post.
2. Register for the sale. This must be April 3-5.
3. Buy the tickets on April 10.
Buying the tickets will be the hard part. I think you will be at your computer refreshing your screen over and over, hoping to get through. You'll be competing with tens of thousands of people for a limited quantity. I believe they will sell out in a few hours.
Again, I'm trying to enlist people to improve my odds with the main sale on April 10. If my sites have been helpful and you would like to return the favor to me, this will be your chance. I absolutely promise to buy all tickets you buy. The maximum you can buy is four. I'm also happy to give you something for your trouble.
Finally, I have an opportunity to rent a trailer that sleeps 8-9 from a friend. If any of you are interested in going, I think this may be your chance. We could have an entire WoV camp!

Absolutely!

I applaud that effort 100%! Burning Man is supposed to be tough and dirty. There are already a lot of multi-millionaires writing a check to fly in on a private jet and be coddled all week in luxury, not contributing anything.
I request a bump on April 2 to remind me/us that the registration window will be open.
Quote: beachbumbabsI already have a profile. I will try to register (should not be competitive for this, right? ), and then do the April 10 competition.

Thanks Barbara! I will certainly give a reminder as the April 3 registration gets closer.
Quote: GWAEI will try to get tickets for you as well. How many are you trying to get?
Thank you! The maximum, four. PM me if you'd like me to pay you in advance.

How to buy tickets

Thank you to you and Mrs. Maxpen as well!
on multiple devices may help ! GLTA !

That's probably good advice, thanks.
In other news, I think I stated elsewhere the maximum tickets you can buy is four. That is incorrect, it is two. For anyone helping me, I ask that you get two tickets and one vehicle pass. Thank you.
Registration for the sale starts in two days.
Registration for the sale starts tomorrow.
As I reminder, before you can register for the sale, you have to register yourself, which is easy and can be done anytime.
- Go to burningman.org/
- Click Menu -> Stuff and Things -> Burner Profiles
-
You will see the following:
- Click the link
-
You will be registered for the sale, as evidenced by this:
For about the 99th time, the actual ticket sale will be extremely competitive and I expect most people won't be successful. That is why I'm trying to enlist friends to help me out. I absolutely promise to buy any tickets you obtain and would owe you a big favor as well. Thank you.
It appears it may be because they ask a lot questions which leads one to believe it may be a program that discriminates against newcomers.
Either way, good luck Wizard, in the unlikely event I get tickets, I’ll look for your advice in how to best ensure you get one.
Quote: beachbumbabsI registered successfully.
Thank you. So far you're my only confirmed friend to help.
Quote: BozSimple, but maybe not so simple, question, is the probability of getting tickets directly correlated or weighted to your burner profile?
Not that I know of. The organizers already give preference to people with a major installation, but otherwise, it's my understanding every ... attempt ... has the same chance. It has been suggested having multiple devices may each count as an attempt.

Interesting story as they try to fight change a changing world. My thoughts:
The elimination of the $1200 tickets is probably a good thing in principle but only creates a higher resale market for those who absolutely need to be there. I’m guessing no price will keep these people out if the tickets are available.
Adding more low income tickets only creates the potential for more fraud unless you are only accepting verified “poor” ticket holders at the gate.
I get the idea, but we are a capitalist society and the best of the best will find a way to get in if they see “value” in it.
While I have never been there and cannot speak from experience, for many it appears to be well worth it.
No sure why many AP’s on here are not involved in trying to get tickets. Seems like one of the last free rolls out there while it lasts.

I hope it is because the AP's respect the community values espoused by the organization to only give things away, or barter for no more than equal value...
I suspect it is because the present value of the cash is higher than the potential profit x risk.

I used to say that too, but, as you said, it would turn the ticket situation even more to the black market. Right now at least wealthy people who must go at any price can give their money directly to Burning Man, which helps them subsidize the cheap $425 tickets I'm hoping to buy a week from today. It's kind of like an airplane with two classes -- the airline maximizes revenue by gouging those in business class and filling the rest of the plane below cost.
To be honest, as much as I hate begging for help getting tickets, I think any alternative would be even worse. I suppose an auction system would make sense economically, but that would result in more wealthy people getting in and glamping, which is already people complain is ruining BM.

Always respect you as one of the good guys, but I don’t see the people offering this as any different than any other AP opportunity.
Not sure how you lose money if you “win” tickets.

Thanks. I have to say for the record that I oppose ticket scalping, but these tickets will go for way more than $425 on the open market.

I'm pretty blown away by the price. What are their major costs?
I'm going to the Lockn Music Festival in Aug and I laid out 1k for 2 people but I get a lot
Two 4 day admission tickets 578.00
Service fee 40.56
45 foot by 20 foot RV camping spot that includes electricity 399.00
service fee 15.43
1 day early entry for RV 50.00
service fee 4.64
Registered successfully for sale.
Awaiting sale link in email.
So all systems go.

I'm not an expert, but the event is very well organized in a very hostile place. Just the construction of the Man and the Temple, both of which get burned down, have got to be way up there. I believe nobody is getting rich off of it. They even ask for donations on the web site.

I was wondering about the donation thing. They asked me for one when I got the ok. Do you think if I gave a small amount thru that link it would improve chances?

Hippies rigging the game. I'm shocked😀 Surely they wouldn't do that. By the time the organizers get done subbing out to various family businesses to hide the revenue even more, you can bet they're killing it.

Pretty blown away that the majority of the money going to payroll
I'm going to Lockn music festival. Their major cost is not payroll, its paying for the musical talent.

I don't think so. One of the Ten Principles is gifting with no expectation of getting anything in return.
Quote: WizardI don't think so. One of the Ten Principles is gifting with no expectation of getting anything in return.
If you're Burning Man, I suppose the question is: Do the Ten Principles of Burning Man supercede the One Principle of Capitalism?
I'll do my best for you, Wizard! You can count me out, though. I'm miserable in anything over sixty degrees Fahrenheit.
Quote: Mission146I'm miserable in anything over sixty degrees Fahrenheit.
The middle of the desert is the big turn off for me. Due to all the dust, probably use a brand new air filter for my car if attending BM then switch it out after BM for another new air filter.
At festivals and I am big on huge festivals(I vacation at a festival every year), I generally camp in the woods with my RV.
I like being among various life forms with shady trees, grass and squirrels ect
Just real pleasant and kick back when relaxing at the campground as long as I am not in a desert.

I didn't know there was "One Principle of Capitalism." Is it open access to a free market?
I'm not sure what a good term would be to use to describe the economics/government of Burning Man itself. If forced, I'd say anarchy is the best term, but there are rules, but they are held to mostly on the honor system.
Quote:I'll do my best for you, Wizard! You can count me out, though. I'm miserable in anything over sixty degrees Fahrenheit.
Thanks Mission!
Quote: Sue StarliteThe New "Burners" have whored Burning Man and turned a once meaningful art installation into a drug infested wasteland of destroyed brand new lumber and energy enough to build and sustained an estimated 5000 1700 sq ft home running all major appliances 24/7 for 10+ years OR homeless 500 sq ft homeless shelters...you do the math. Burners might as well trash the desert. Stop acting like you give a shit about the environment and your fellow man you hypocritical, sanctimoniou,s witless pieces of shit. You've taken what started as a beautiful meeting of self reflection and turned it into nothing better than a week long Macy's Day Parade. Don't even try me on the humble beginnings of Burning Man, you'll lose, I was a part of the joy. I was there.
