Weird Las Vegas claims this to be the most haunted pet cemetery in America, and several websites are devoted to it, but it's exact location seems nebulous. Rumours are that the Mob also used it to bury some undesirables.
One site says it is south of the intersection of 93 and 95, while another puts it on the north side of the road halfway between Boulder City and Searchlight.
Anyone been to it?

If it's haunted at all, that would make it the most haunted in America.

If you look at Google Maps' satellite view closely enough, there appears to be what could be a pet cemetery (and it's tagged as "unofficial pet cemetery") just east of US-95, about 2 1/2 miles south of I-11. There are no signs from the highway pointing to the exit to a dirt road that appears to go by it.

It used to be full... but then they all came back.

Edit: Here's an image of the actual place:

The Boulder City dot com site has a good write up, and directions to get there from the highway: Boulder City Pet Cemetery

Note that disturbing the land there is currently prohibited as the area is protected as a designated Desert Tortise habitat.

Indeed, I see it listed when searching for "pet cemetery" near Boulder City. I'll check it out my next time out that way.

It's surprising how big it is. This image from Google Earth shows the main section:

And it's almost as large to the east.

The BoulderCitydotcom website says folks have been using the site since 1931, so basically since the dam town was founded.

Are there modern pet cemeteries in Las Vegas? If not, this could be a lucrative business opportunity. There would certainly be demand for a modestly priced, well kept place. I see so many people bringing their dogs to restaurants, stores, and basically everywhere with them under the guise of “comfort” animal.

Cemeteries, in general, are pretty scarce in Las Vegas.

I just found and visited the "unofficial" pet cemetery. It is located 2.75 miles sound on the 93 from its intersection with I-11. Or, about 800 feet past where the northbound and southbound lanes divide with a narrow island in the middle. Here is a link to an image of it from Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/@35.9145449,-114.9174607,159m/data=!3m1!1e3?shorturl=1.

I took a whole movie, but you'll have to settle for just a few pictures until I get around to uploading the movie to YouTube.

Sorry the image is upside down.

The place is surreal. Seems like something out of a horror movie. Meanwhile, you can feel the love people had for these pets. If I were a dead pet, I'd be honored to be buried there.

There's a nice one off Craig, I remember calling them and asking about prices several years ago when thinking of moving to Vegas. I've spent a fortune burying my pets in California. I always buy a little stuffed animal to put in the casket with them, to keep them company forever. And a lock of my hair.

I think to think of or find a name of the one off of the 93. What's it's called, one grave had a about 50 stuffed animals on it. If not that one, I bet a lot of Las Vegans just bury their animals out in the desert somewhere. Once I was riding my mountain bike in a remote area and came upon a pile of rocks that seemed out of place. I moved a few and there was a box of human remains.

In regard to the name, this site calls it the Boulder City Pet Cemetery... and Alleged Mafia Burial Site.

How did you know it was human remains?

I'm glad there are cemeteries like this. Something about the silence of them and the acknowledgement that many have come to one place for the deceased has a power to it that is hard to articulate.

For that many pets to be buried there,
it had to be a well known place at
one time.

Yes, I agree. The web site I linked to before said a Boulder City vet may have started it, but nobody knows for sure. It doesn't even have a commonly accepted name. I'm hoping Paco will come along and shed some light.

At what point does a graveyard become fair game for archaeologists to dig up and study? Does it have to be unused for a certain period of time? Or do the remains need to be in the ground for a minimum amount of time?
