Read onthe LVSun website that this was closing ... any truth to that? Too bad, certainly not a high point in American refinement, but a fun experience nonetheless!

Here is the article: Liberace Museum closing; final day of operation on longtime East Tropicana location Oct. 17.

I, for one, will be sorry to see it go. The article says it may return in another location, which it desperately needs. The current spot is a bit too far out of the way for the average tourist to bother going to, I assume, and in an ugly strip mall.

That is my birthday! And I'll be in Vegas! I feel like if the Liberace Museum is closing on my birthday, and I'll be in the middle of my first trip to Vegas, I MUST go. Thoughts?

I've been to the Liberace Museum twice in the last 18 months. What a great iconic museum ... too bad ...

I wonder what they're going to do with their schlocky tschotskes.

Nareed's First Law of Las Vegas (locals edition): The only thing more permanent than the temporary removal of a Vegas icon is a temporary government program (a temporary Vegas clousre has a chance in hell of ever openeing again elwewhere).

I really shouldn't write laws for locals as I'm not one. Hell, I'm not even much of a regular (one trip per year doesn't cut it). But I'm quite confident of this one.

Like the car museum (is that still there in the IP?), wax museum, and other places in casinos, I wonder if any of them have considered offering a spot for that inside?

A lot of the exhibits move from casino to casino (Bodies, Titanic exhibit, etc.)

Seems there is more to the story (at least according to this blogger) (I got this link from a news story about the closing)

Quote:

We feel that if there is any chance to save the place that Liberace built, there would have to be some very serious changes, including:

The outrageous salaries being paid to the top employees would have to be cut, by at the very least, half. One makes approximately $90,000 a year, and another around $75,000 annually. Unbelievable for a floundering non-profit that doesn't generate enough income to remain in operation.

~

The relationship with the high-priced PR company that was brought on at the end of last year, would have to be terminated immediately. They have done virtually NOTHING to help the grave situation and, the few releases they DID send out, contained ridiculous errors.

A complete check on the inventory that is supposed to be part of the museums' contents, and an explanation for any missing items (like the desk that was quietly sold to "an anonymous private person"). What else is gone from the place? A ring or two? Crystal drinking goblets? The Kennedy china?
