Discussion about the Suspension List
I did find a 7 day suspension which was a member's very first. This is a five year member and an excellent contributor who got the 7 days for offering his opinion about the nuclear option. No vulgarity, no priors, no insulting anyone's family, just stating an opinion. He said "Nuclear option. That is a pile of crap". Seven days.
I am in no way making a complaint, calling anything unfair or making any judgement. I'm merely pointing out what is public information on the Suspension List. As Joe Friday used to say: "Just the facts, ma'am.
You're just giving more power to the trolls. If that's what you want WOV to turn into, go ahead, the site's yours Wizard....but I don't think you want this forum to turn into that -- having a bunch of EvenBobs around running the forum.

Re-read that post to which you are referring. He is attacking ME. What he is talking about was not purposeful, having no ill intent behind it; but I did voluntarily leave for a couple months as a result of it, due to my dissatisfaction with the moderators' handling of the issue. Note, I did not ask to resign like a drama queen and was not in red. Hopefully his unprovoked attack had something to do with the suspension, and was merely not mentioned.
My first suspension was for 7 days, for a benign, but negative, description of a series of posts that may have been misinterpreted. A new member was recently suspended for 7 days for an "unsubstantiated accusation".
Your point remains valid. These were all first offenses, not the seventh. And none of them were as bad as directly attacking someone's family for no reason.
It made perfect sense to me when I typed it? Maybe a scintilla of abstractness, but all in all it seems fairly easy to unnerstand. Doesn't that happen to you? You type something and push post, and when you re-read it some other time, you get a big wtf look on your mug? I was replying to you commenting about your 30 day vacation. You came back and said something about being drunk and high, I said that was the problem, if you had just posted blasphemy under the effect of one mind altering substance, alcohol or other, maybe you would have only gotten three days off? [An attempt at levity] The problem compounds under multiple influences. As in "dope think".
My experience's with alcohol and "other" have given me the ability to comprehend the mindset of altered states, until they go off the rails and start "speaking in tongues", then I gotta leave. Put another way, in a past life I never would have believed that I would ever be a designated driver, now I are one. Put yet another way, I spent 30 years trying to get a buzz, it looks like I will spend the rest trying to get rid of one.
I then went on to say, I didn't really think MC meant harm to Bob, [at least not as much as it appeared] and Bob was a professional bartender at one time so he has heard every insult, and is fairly thick skinned and has said as much, often. So no foul really intended, and none really taken, but the suspension will stand anyway, them's the rules.
I went on some long winded explanation about my old drinking habits mirroring MC's with the BV, and noticed similar behavior between his an my own, that is only part of why I no longer consume? I probably still "think drunk" from time to time, I know my sense of humor is still stuck in the seventies?

EvenBob flame-baits just about everyone on the forum. Do we really need that, though? Think about it. I have yet to see a post from EvenBob that contributes positively to the forum. Other than the political-type posts, almost all of his posts have a negative light to them.

I've politely asked EB to quit b4, and then ended up suspended after my request is rudely disregarded and it escalates. He wasn't the only one piling on when it happened to me, but he seems to be notoriously linked to baiting others in to trouble, or attempting to bait others, and escaping trouble himself. Can't really blame him with MC, but Mcallister's comment accurately (at the time) pointed out that a vile insult only got 3 days...implying it would have gotten more if it had been against any other member. It was not an unreasonable sentiment; people have been nuked for less. But 3 days isn't a big deal, so long as the ban was rational, no one should care.

Yeah, the mcallister suspension has rubbed me the wrong way and has me re-thinking my participation here again. I think I will take the "don't let the door hit your ass on the way out" option suggested by wizard. This site just is no longer worth my while , nor the type of site I wish to associate with.

I was about to comment on this same quote of the Wizard's, but was waiting for some segue to smooth things over a bit.
The thing which got me was, "... to write endless posts complaining about it." If Mike doesn't want to continue on with what he started, a recreational gambling forum, then he shouldn't have sold his remaining productive years attached to it. That's the rub.
Almost as clumsy as calling Vegas visitors "squares".

I feel like they have been winning more and more here. The real positive contributors to the forum, especially those in the gaming math department, have gradually posted less and less.
And the mcallister suspension...wow. If he's getting 3 days for that, he should have made it "worth it" like mickey did. I'm guessing he would have if he thought he would be suspended for that.

It was mostly a copy of someone else's, with one line of a personal insult added. Not worth the retention.

To address the SAP suspension, again, basically, rule 13 was invoked. The two things I stand for the most when it comes to gambling are honoring a losing bet and abiding by the rules of a game. SAP went on for post after post that he had no intention of paying AYE and failed to defend himself in any way, other than to allude to some phone call that Aye denied ever happened. Efforts at mediation or arbitration were ignored or refused.
In an effort to protect other forum members, he was nuked. A newcomer could have come to the site, made another bet with AP, won, have SAP refuse to pay, and get upset with forum management for letting a known welcher (Much to the chagrin of my spell checker, I spell it with a C) remain on the forum. BTW, this is not the first time this we've nuked somebody for reasons of the protection of the forum community.
The door remains open for SAP to either pay Aye or submit to arbitration.
Finally, if anybody is so bothered about this, or any other suspension, to write endless posts complaining about it, may I make a radical suggestion -- just leave. And don't let the door hit you on the way out.
I'm going to guess that this was only really directed towards a few who actually do "write endless posts complaining?". I hope so because... like it or not your responsible for creating a community where many people visit daily, multiple times a day, share intimate details of there lives, make real life friends, share information, get advice.Quote: Wizard

Many people look up to you, I have even notice someone said they were somewhat starstruck meeting you. People look up to you and think of you as being fair. Since you are the Wizard around here, I think people to expect you to make things as close to fair as possible.
Personally I don't care how many times or how long MC gets suspended, even if it were zero days but can you really fault people for wanting to discuss the discrepancies in suspension sentences?

Some friends have written me privately so suggest I went too far with this remark. My wording could have been a lot better. I was not trying to give the impression I am totally heartless and take pleasure it driving people off the forum.
No. My comment was directed only at the consummate complainers, who shall remain nameless, who complain endlessly about every single suspension. To be perfectly honest, there are a lot of such members who I would not be unhappy if they choose to leave. However, they are outnumbered, by far, by members who are mostly positive and provide interesting, intelligent, humorous, and relevant comments about a whole host of topics. I hope none of these members, who also shall remain nameless, will leave over one or two suspensions they disagree with.
In conclusion, I apologize for the remark. It was a badly worded visceral outburst that would have been better left unsaid.

I don't think people like using the block mechanism and I think I know why. It's passive and feels like losing.
Much more satisfying if it worked the opposite of the way it works now. I aim it at someone, and poof, they no longer can see anything I post.
That would be satisfying. They would have to keep changing personas and risk permanent banning.
I think that would have been real useful for A-High and also satisfying. Just guessing though.

That's exactly why. It should work like a facebook block. Blocking people here is useless, you can't really get rid of them. The only time I did it, it caused more issues than never blocking in the first place.

If they know how the forum code works, I assume they could do it themselves. It could be really really tough or it could be fairly simple. Just copy the way the current "if post[user] == my block list[i++] then { code to click button to open post}" but referee it...although, I suspect that'd put a decent amount of load on the server(s), since every time I view a thread (with 10 posts per page) it'd have to go through each member's block list. Well maybe. Idk how it currently works or how I'd write it.
But the code is essentially almost all written, just some copy/pastes, an additional DB table (or maybe just a column?) and a little manual adjusting.

Imagine how much the page hits would sky rocket, especially if they invoked a suspension jubilee. It seems like every thing is just cruising along nicely and once in a while a poster goes all super nova. Don't always know why, sometimes it's the disease, sometimes it's the treatment ?

One guy in college lost his account and job back when it was something special to have access. So next semester he takes programming classes so they have to give him an account. Picks up right where he left off. Same thing, different people.

I looked and I noticed there's no return date. Looks like this will be decided with a nuke option. It's probably not going to end well.
