I was making the argument that gambling is not expressly a sin, and is, in fact, interpreted by some Christians (particularly Catholics) as not a sin if done in moderation.

I didn't state that you weren't; or overlook your points.

But, again, your as-anecdotal points then (arguing it the other way) are irrelevant to the argument that the religions which explicitly didn't/don't mention gambling at all, or were understandably unable to foresee/grasp the modern "fleece mills", intuitively or in Wizard-like unwritten general terms if you will still realized gambling was clearly of little merit to anything. Let alone to divine laws or purposes of immortal import.

Like neither the ancient Greek mathematicians wrote anything about it, then it notably wasn't worth the mention. They knew that they were snubbing it over, surely. Wasn't going to amount to anything in math terms either. The same reasons that the gambling math failed to blossom into anything here, eg, or a lot of the other real science related to gambling in specific and general.

True gambling addicts, or those pushing a gambling site, begin to see everything as "one long session" in every way. They can't turn it off long enough to realize they're not accomplishing anything much by the casino variety of risk taking. Except of course, by proving how little value in it by availing themselves of the other ones not equipped however to realize this for themselves.

Modern industrialized gambling tried to popularize it in the way and extent that religion and mathematics snubbed it. Fad status of affairs.

Doesn't matter to me one way or other. I have no "dog in the fight". However, I like to understand what immortality is about, gods or no gods.

Took you awhile. Lol

May be the only banning Zuga has given so far. And justified imo considering all his former passes. He definitely toed the line with me personally but was never punished for doing so. I can count the members that have done that to me on one hand as I generally try not to cause conflict.

It also took a while for him to be banned. Others have gone much more quickly and it does make one wonder. One person's darling is another person's thorn in the side. Does anyone miss BuzzPaff, Buzzard, charles or aladyat42? That last one surprises me. I'm sure he'll be back, maybe even with some new material.

I don't think anyone would say that Buzz is a bad person however he was relentless in his crusade against Zuga. Ironically, if anyone had had Zuga's back when it first started and nipped this in the bud, Buzz might still be a member in good standing. Instead it was allowed to escalate and Zuga was left to handle it on his own, an unenviable position for him to be put in.

I can't defend everything he did; he was being told to cool it and couldn't care less.

Still, to me, he had me chuckling, the shots he was taking.

I sometimes read this forum because my late husband was a wizard fan who often quoted some of the things he read here. Of current interest is that about six years ago we both met Mr. Crimm at a small bar in Montana. I don't believe that's his real name but that's the we came to know him by.

I've seen some different characterizations about him, but my belief based on actually meeting him is that he's someone who knows the low limit gaming in his state well, he's a chain smoker, he holds his liquor well and does use profanity freely, and he tells more stories in limited time than Shirley Temple could come up with. He's very entertaining.

I've never met anyone in Montana that participates in the internet gambling forums. In subsequent posts some of u think this poster was TK. He could have named the bar we met in but didnt. He could have mentioned that I roll cigarettes but didnt. I get it from people all the time. "If you make so much money then why do you roll cigsrettes?" I smoke a rather expensive form of rolling tobacco called Drum. Its halfzware shag, a blend of Kentucky Dark and Virginia Light. Its the crack cocaine of cigarette tobacco. And yes I hold my liquor well until about the 20th shot. Then I go home and make obscene posts on WOV. I dont blame anyone but myself for my suspensions. I've never made a sober post I was suspended for.

I'm about 10 days into this road trip. Kerkebet, I'm averaging $622 a day on this trip. Eat your heart out, buddy.

This is really both untrue and a distortion of what happened. As are your allegations of people being others' "darlings", (one of many similar posts is above this one I quoted) and the rest of your slimy-toned posts. You just say this stuff without any idea of the context, always critical of the moderation here, looking to cause problems among the moderators. Gets really tiresome.

Most of what happened with Buzz happened out of the forum's public eye and so is not discussable. It's also, in fact, not your business. But I will agree with the others that think it's sad that he's gone. I think his intent was to amuse and participate as sort of an eccentric uncle here, and he was not here to be mean or insulting, though at times it read that way.

I also think it's sad that you use his situation as a way of saying slimy things about us on here. He's the last person who would appreciate your false sympathy.

I was wondering why Mike or someone didn't step in and send Buzz a PM asking him to cool it.

Whatever the case, I have a feeling as long as Buzz remained with no personal contact with Zuga he wouldn't ever be able to stop himself.

I'm still not sure what Buzz had against Zuga, especially since Zuga kept everything the same and hasn't really had a noticeable presence here.

It's always poor Buzz. There's never a mention of the dozens of insults and vulgarities that he was allowed to get away with in over 12,000 posts. There's no talk of the awful treatment that Zuga, his employees and the site that bought this site has endured from this so called "eccentric uncle" There is no spin that can erase that. Zuga bent over backwards where Buzz was concerned and it was all for naught. That says a lot about the man. He really tried.

You didn't understand Buzz. But I am sure if he didn't like you, he had a reason without me going back and reading the thousands of comments. If you would like to quote some of his most insulting comments toward you it would make understanding your suffering easier.

I think Buzz is/was a martyr of sorts. One would have to have read books like "The Jungle" or "The people's republic" or the Ludlow massacre to get an understanding of why he feels like he does. Buzz, and those like him are the reason why, men will get out of a trench and rush machine gun fire. You seem to me to be more of the kind that sits in a bunker miles away from the battle making decisions and playing war games on a board. There are a handful of very active posters who give many people the definite impression that this board is in large part a haven for people with severe emotional and mental disabilities. Even though I share some common interests with him, and imagine I may possibly have found that I'd enjoy his company if I met him personally, the "martyr" in question was about 20% of that. And yes, I have indeed read those sainted books and have understood the impulse giving rise to them and their eternally martyrdom seeking fans quite well for a very long time, since there was a time in my life when I was very much immersed in the unique subculture of such people, tank-you berry much.

Equally bizarre are those who nominate themselves to be perpetual forum "rules" lawyers, apparently in the strange belief that judgment, or what use to be referred to as plain ordinary common sense, should not and cannot be used by those publishing their remarks, and if they find just the right punctuation in some "rule" it should compel others to do what the self-appointed forum lawyer commands, instead of what they wish to do with their money on their property.

One of the secret admins felt so strongly over StrictlyAP welching on a bet that he took it upon himself to nuke him himself. Before, said secret admin gave three of the other "green" admins the option to overrule him, and none of use chose to do so.

I'm open to unnuking SAP if he submits to binding arbitration by anybody mutually agreeable between Aye and himself.

This incident does not necessary set a precedent. Forum management still wishes to not get involved in friendly bets between forum members and urges everybody to be ladies and gentlemen and pay any lost wagers in a timely manner.

I think the precedent that should be set is that you cannot come on this board and openly say that you won't pay a bet, you won't say why, and you won't attempt to find a solution (arbitration or something like that). This particular poster flaunted the fact he would not pay for some reason.

Hear hear!

My thoughts exactly. "Conduct unbecoming", which if it isn't a rule, ought to be.

Note that I don't think the welch constituted conduct unbecoming.
May the cards fall in your favor.

I think the precedent that should be set is that you cannot come on this board and openly say that you won't pay a bet, you won't say why, and you won't attempt to find a solution (arbitration or something like that). This particular poster flaunted the fact he would not pay for some reason.

Maybe it is good that welchers do that, so others will know not to trust him.

I feel this whole issue could have been solved or possibly even prevented with better communication. It seems that many of the more... bothersome posts over the years are the ones coated in secrecy and involve a poster that refuses to share information that appears necessary (e.g. some betting system advocates). They have every right to behave that way, but it comes off badly to others.

StrictlyAP is just not very intelligent. He asked to be permanently banned because he got some spam e-mail that could have come from anywhere.

It was obvious from his posts that he was not a serious advantage player.

Of course, intentions are a factor. However, one's other misdemeanors and/or achievements bear no witness in any civilized court of law. A judge will tell you, "No slam dunks in my court." Should the OJ's and Cosby's get off because they did something which a minority of the population feels is redeeming?

Furthermore, "People will hang themselves given enough rope." I for one didn't believe the majority of mc's stories; and his constant rants call into question the rest.

Protect him/her from him/herself to try to save the presumed collective "want to believe", but do so at great cost to where this board was/is heading... another form of entitlement.

Nor is distinguishing between the AP's and the ploppies or squares the route to go. The worst thing you can do is to wise up the suckers, if it's your misguided intent to avail yourself of them.

You bring up many valid points, Kerkebet. How the hell could anyone know if its real? I know its real for me. But how the hell can I convey that to anyone else? There is no hope in that respect unless I take you kids by the hand, put you on the plays, and tell you:

"DO WHAT I SAY TO DO, KID!. YOU PLAY THE GAME WHEN I SAY YOU PLAY THE GAME! YOU QUIT PLAYING THE GAME WHEN I SAY YOU QUIT PLAYING THE GAME! IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT KID I WILL STOMP A MUDHOLE IN YOUR ASS!"

But that is the speech you kind folks are going to get if you are ever instructed by Mickey Crimm. I will explain to you why you have to do things my way. I don't want to hear your stupid rookie arguments. Do it my way or get the hell our of here. I won't tolerate you. You can't fix perfection, folks, so don't even try.

Kerkebet, I'm feeling my age. I had another few towns to hit on my road trip. But I blew them off and made a beeline for Great Falls, Montana. Home, Sweet, Home. I walked right into That Bar, and right up into all my friends, and ordered a double. I felt like I had been rode hard and put up wet. Six shots later I started feeling like a human being again.

Though you may have valid questions about guys like me, Kerk, I never lost any sleep about guys like you. You just keep on believing what you believe and I'll keep doing what I do.

Kerk, I'm a hard road traveler. I'm as hard as they get. I come from the bad state. I live down in bad town. The farther down the street you go the badder it gets. I live in the last house.

P.S. Kerkebet. 12 days on the road? A $679 a day average. Travel, meals and lodging? $1200 and change. I grossed $8148. And guess what, Kerk. I didn't even need the money. I did it because of the principle of it. It's there to be made. What the hell I'm I gonna do with the money? I'm gonna give it to my little sisters when I die.

Mick, if this is how you write when you're drunk, may I suggest you drink more? ;)

There's a perfect balance to be had to become ever so slightly drunk. The Inebriati.

"Then you can admire the real gambler, who has neither eaten, slept, thought nor lived, he has so smarted under the scourge of his martingale, so suffered on the rack of his desire for a coup at trente-et-quarante" - Honore de Balzac, 1829

I would love to claim that I am the originator of the statement. But that would not be true. I met an old fight trainer in Vegas in z1987. He had done 5 years in Indian Springs for shooting one of his fighters over a phone bill. I asked him about the fighter he shot. He said the kid was a contender in the sixties. He said the kid wasn't as good as the best middleweights in the world but the kid couldn't be knocked out. After 15 rounds the kid would still be standing there with a "now what the hell are you gonna do?" look in his face. He told me the kid had a saying "I'm from the bad state. I live down in bad city. Down in bad street. The farther down the street you go the badder they get. I live in the last house." After the shooting the kid spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

Old expression, I think. It's used in this script from a 1949 radio show.

Moose, I wish I could remember the fighter's name. The old fight trainer was a little tough as nuts bantom weight out of the Kronk gym in Detroit. The difference that could be pointed out to us, and the difference we will always be pointed out for, the old fight trainer and the middleweiight he shot were both white.
