Me too, both times I got suspended I went off on someone and fully expected a suspension.
I should add that I still think both of those rants that got me a vacation were valid and needed to be said.
Has anyone ever taken the time to see if the rate of suspensions has remained constant over the site's history or if they tend to clump together?

I don't have stats, but anecdotally, suspensions have slowed, now maybe 1/2 what they were 4 years ago, probably less than 1/2. TheRe are 2 lists archived if you want to look it up. Spammers do seem to have increased, but we just nuke them and usually don't list them.

Can you write which part of Boz's post the complainant had issue with? Partially because I (and I suspect others) still aren't quite sure what the issue was as well as because it's something that I (and again, others) would probably want to avoid writing in the future so we/they don't get suspended.
I have been taken aback by Boz's recent posts
He seems really angry about Trump caving. Real angry.
He called a members father a loser. That's pretty low
He described everybody on the left as traitors to this country. That's pretty low.

You guys ended up nuking most of the habitual offenders. I'm sure a few may miss Beethoven9th, Bizzyb, LarryS, Baccarat79 (he is nuked at the forum I moderate too), and several others since I've been here, but for the most part, the forum is better off without them.

Yup, the most interesting members got
nuked and we suffer for it. Walking the
edge made a lot of them interesting.
It's like Deadwood. It was a far more
interesting and lively place when SD
was a territory and not a state. No laws
or rules.

If a priority were page hits, I think it would be a lively forum with many a lurking clicker ? And lurkers would have to be members here already perhaps, so as to not shock the women, children and general public.

Yet what I would consider to be a fairly benign post gets 3 days just because someone cried foul? Makes no sense.

We moderators do not read every post. It is like speeding or running a red light, sometimes you get caught, sometimes you don't. Anyone who gambles should appreciate the concept.

Firstly I did not complain myself to any mod via pm
But I had to block him after page after page of veiled (apparently not so veiled as other posters commented on it) insults to me in the dark oz history thread

No, it was in part for him hijacking your thread, part for hijacking PGs thread, part for numerous misquotes of other members, including me. It's listed and linked in the suspension list.

I feel like he's been trolling for at least as long as I've been a member. It's especially obvious in the political threads. I can't believe he hasn't been nuked yet.

The Wizard doesn't like to censor topics.
But to keep the overall sanity of a forum, it's much, much easier to just ban political discussion imo.
As for the current suspension, I've been waiting a long time for the forum's master of touching the line, but not crossing it, to finally fall over it. And it took a gestalt of several posts to get there.

The rules here are very straightforward. It’s not difficult to remain in good standing.
I’d say 90% of the bans are regular posters who know they crossed the line and expect the timeout.

There were, in fact, several mild personal insults in the Darkoz thread. And the mischief was deliberate, as EB said. He killed the one thread by hijack, and looked for another to disrupt, found it, was well on the way to another hijack. He's also quite aware of the quote format rules, but was mixing quotes, truncating, and misquoting. So I obliged him and gave him the time out. 7 Days was kind.
