In my defense, I have long maintained that a not insubstantial percentage of my posts have related to either things of an Administrative nature or the WoV Picks game.

As far as Buzzard/Buzzpaff, Beethoven, AoS et al, they posted a lot, but I'm not sure what point you are making. Evenbob posts a lot, I imagine he would be in the Top 20 in PPD's for several years even if he were to stop posting today.

In the meantime, I'd argue that all named parties had value. AoS had his detailed, 'live' trip reports that everyone seemed to enjoy. B9th was an excellent debater and presenter of ideas...when he felt like it...and was also very funny, at times.

Buzzard/Buzzpaff was a Forum mainstay with entertaining and witty observations and chock-full of great stories.

Finally, AxiomofChoice was one of the smartest guys on this Forum, an unbelievable wealth of math and gambling knowledge. As you know, he left as a result of the site being sold, so there is very little anyone could do about that if that was his prerogative.

However, aside from your point that some people who used to post a good bit aren't here anymore, with all due respect, I don't know what you're trying to say beyond that.

As of this morning the top post per day figures are:

EvenBob - 9.74

AxelWolf - 7.79

beachbumbabs - 6.90

Buzzard - 6.56

Mission146- 6.09

Wouldn't it be fun to see how many words each of these posters have rather than posts alone? Some posts are long drawn out affairs while others are one or two word zingers. Obviously post count is only one aspect. Then there's the quality over quantity debate which will elicit a wide variety of opinions.

What a fun thread this is! Five of the top 20 posters are no longer posting. Buzzard comes in at number 10, AxiomOfChoice at 14, Buzzpaff at 17, aceofspades at 18 and Beethoven9th at 19.

Buzzpaff's last post was on October 11, 2012, an incredible three years ago, yet there he sits at number 17.

It's been a year this month since Axiom and Beethoven have posted and 10 months for Buzzard.

Aceofspades has been innactive since May.

Does anyone think any of there guys had value? Combined that is a lot of posts.

Are you jealous because you didn't make the top five? Keep posting. You'll get there.

I have lots of hobbies and lots of time to enjoy them. Bird watching is not high on my list although I do enjoy them.

There is no reason to defend yourself, Mission. You are replying to my post? The point I was making was that total post count does not equal value. The fact that someone can bang away at a keyboard does not make them valuable, hence my quality over quantity observation.

You mentioned your own posts so if I may. I find your posts to be articulate, well presented and well researched. You are knowledgeable in many subjects. I hope this doesn't sound awful but I'm surprised that you aren't a high priced attorney, CEO or business owner. Of course you're going to post about administrative doings, Wov Picks etc. It's the quality. A person could make several three or four word posts containing nothing but gibberish and the next thing you know they have 40 or 50 posts added to their count while using less words than your one post that I'm quoting. That's what I mean when I say quality over quantity.

To summarize, 18000 posts do not automatically make one valuable. It could but so could 1800 or 800.

A thought on our banned members. If you believe that some of our banned members have value why not look into inviting some of them back? What is there to lose? I've said before that even murderers make parole at some point.

By the way, I will not be participating in WoV Picks until we get a legal opinion on whether it violates Forum Rule 8. Sending money across those pesky state lines and all. I can't help it. I'm a stickler for the rules.

I understand what you're saying, now. I don't know that I took your post the wrong way, per se, just that I wasn't sure how to take it. With respect to value, I would say that all parties named in the post to which I replied had value. AoS and AoC are, of course, free to come back whenever they wish.

I want to say that B9 returned under a host of aliases, but I could be misremembering. If he did, in my opinion, that should exclude him from returning.

One person I would vote to bring back is LarryS if the other Admins would be inclined. He doesn't seem to care for me very much, but I always took pleasure in any discourse we shared.

I certainly appreciate the compliments and would also rate you amongst the highest authorities with respect to the game of Blackjack, of which, I have only rudimentary AP knowledge...at best.

The reason that I am not an attorney or in some other very well paid position is simply that I am a quite unmotivated person. I do a lot, don't get me wrong, the only way you'll find me at my place is if I am asleep, but I've simply never been driven towards what people (myself included) would view as success.

To wit, I know more about gambling than I do any other subject, but much of that knowledge is generalized. Much of my knowledge of anything is generalized. I'm the type that knows a bit about everything but a lot about nothing.

My other weaknesses are academic laziness, an inability to focus on the same subject for a long period of time, unless I am actively doing it, and inability to delay gratification. By the last, I mean, University was very difficult for me because I wasn't getting paid to be there. In the long-term and having obtained a higher degree maybe, but another problem I have is inability to meaningfully concern myself with the long-term.

As with virtually anyone else, I am a fundamentally flawed human being. Of course, I recognize my weaknesses, but have little to no conviction in my ability to change them. While there is much to be said for changing the paradigm, I find it easier to work within my default psychological parameters, so that appeals to me. Even more so, in fact, because one of those parameters is not undertaking tasks I deem to be too difficult.

Since AoC is a self-nuke, I believe that I can relate that I have spoken to him within the last six months and he seems to be doing well. Unfortunately, I switched phones and screwed up by deleting all the numbers from the old phone before transferring them all. I may have his Email, I'd have to look.

In any event, he didn't seem particularly interested in returning citing that he felt as though he spent too much time here anyway. Naturally, I indicated I would like it very much if he did return.

AoS has self nuked and recanted enough that I know he knows he can return. He also cited privacy concerns when he left, and since the main thing he seemed to enjoy was doing his live trip reports, I don't think he perceives the site as having the same value outside of the context of doing that.

In the meantime, I thought about the first person mentioned, and my vote would be, 'Present,' on the subject of B9. I often found him contentious to an extent that wasn't quite necessary.

The opinion of all Admins is that it is within the Rules. As far as the law is concerned, I'm not qualified to say, but then, I don't believe I've ever heard of a fantasy football league being busted up by the Feds, or anything. One of the main arguments of those who would spread legal sports betting (myself included) is that so much wagering is going on regardless. It's an existent revenue source.

I don't think anyone had or has a problem with him. It was the incessant whining about John Patrick that was annoying. He can call us all the names he wants over there. Doesn't bother me one bit.

Why was LarryS banned in the first place? I don't recall a forum rule forbidding the mention of John Patrick. I guess he was banned because - well just because.

There is precedent for reinstating banned members. Who remembers juiciejennie? It seems that the Wizard met with Jennifer to "play some blackjack" on the strip one day when things quickly went south. As the story goes, an argument erupted over money (who could have seen that coming) and poor Jennifer was banned from the forum. No particular rules violation was ever cited. Fast forward a few months and voila, she is reinstated. She was so happy to be back that she tendered her permanent resignation a few months after that, leaving many with just the drool on their chins.

Were LarryS invited back I'm not so sure that he would accept. Kind of a fool me once sort of thing. He doesn't seem like the type of man that thinks his life is over because he can't post on an internet forum. I suspect that this may be the case with other banned members of value. Something to consider the next time someone asks if the forum is dying.

It would be an entertaining moment to invite Larry back. But that would get old real quick. I just did a quick search at Gamblers Glen. Quickly found he called each mod a different insult in one click. Dudes obsessed with writing derogatory stuff about WOV. Literally its link after link after link... Psycho

Him and V were big friends until Frank Stanton tired of it and left the Glen. Then they turned on each other after he was banned, but V stayed behind to make "excuses", or whatever you want to call it, for the Wizard.

But, he's one of those guys who just goes off on you for any little thing. I quit the Glen a couple of years ago after the same thing with him. Too bad, he used to post sports betting information, and his views of gambling.
I can't believe what I believe.

I'm not so sure axiomofchoice does. I'm not sure where he disappeared to. I haven't heard from him in a long time. We often communicated off the forum regularly. He was a friendly humble guy in person.

I know he was not very happy when the site sold. I don't completely understand why he was so adamant it was such a horrible thing, it's as if the devil himself bought the site.

He probably concentrating on work and social life. Perhaps once he took a break he realized the site was getting in the way of all that.

Hopefully he will reach out next time he's in Vegas.

The top posters per day haven't changed much in the last 30 days.

EvenBob - 9..73

AxelWolf - 7.70

beachbumbabs - 6.89

Buzzard - 6.38

Mission146- 6.07

As we can see it's the same top five with Buzzard still holding on to fourth place. The numbers don't always tell the entire story however. For example, with only two of his screen names Buzzard has amassed 12,142 posts. Imagine if the posts from his multiple "personalities" were added to that total. He would surely go up a couple of spots. Perhaps he'll comment when he makes his next post here. It's been a whole two weeks since his last six posts.

November sneaked right up on us. The top five posters haven't changed. What's interesting is the top 25. Seven of them are either inactive, semi inactive or banned. Our person of "value" is still occupying two of the top spots.

Hey now, don't be so hasty. Nov is a wonderful month. It's like Christmas for the northern outdoorsman. Archery, rifle, smoke poles, fly rods,... plus Veteran's Day, the clown show finale (election day), Dia de Los Muertes. Thanksgiving is the culmination.

Best holiday ever =)

'Tis the harvest season. Sure, add it to the list.

Shame that Black Friday ruins just about the entire month in one fell swoop. In my post-coup America, the playing of any Christmas music in the month of November will be punishable by death. Of your entire bloodline back to the days of Leif Ericson.
