Choosing a new mod

With Mission resigning I must assume a new mod will be chosen.
What process will be used to select one?
Will the membership get the option to vote on who they'd prefer to help shepherd them or will the decision simply be a fait accompli from above?
You might want to open another thread to solicit interest in the position; given all the B.S. the mods endure there may not be many applicants for the position.
Then again, those without power often covet it, so there could be a flurry of interested candidates, tough to tell.

What does one look for in a moderator?
I was a volunteer mod on a hobby forum for about two weeks. I found it thankless and restrictive. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Very restrictive. Even if you’re not going to insult somebody, you have to make sure to measure your words (in response) not to even speak to them too harshly, be sarcastic, the least bit rude or anything like that.
Members think they know what it means not to speak freely because of the Rules, you’ve got no idea.
(Edited: We thInk we know what it is not to speak freely because of the Rules, we have no idea...well, I do...wait...hoe the hell do I phrase this??)
Now, nobody’s ever told me what to say and there is no formal set of Admin rules, but you know you’re going to light a brush fire with Members if you step the least bit out of line in a post.
Go with God, New Admin, whoever you may be. And know that you are envied by none.

I vote for anybody but myself. I couldn't even imagine why anybody would want to be a moderator.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

I think the best candidates will be found on the suspension list. The current and past Mods are way too boring. A good mod might have any of the following qualities:
Paranoia
An uncontrollable temper
Bet welching
A system
Access to fake passports
Think he/she can control dice
Sell U.K cabinets or furniture
Market furry video games
Enjoy chippies
Get drunk and post
Threaten the Wiz
Seems like a good starting point.

Enjoy the sites, appreciate that they exist, figure they can help out a little.
Other than the thanks you will certainly get from Wizard, it can seem like a thankless job at times. It's not. There are people who are glad you are doing it and while you won't have the better part of a thread telling you that privately, sometimes people will shoot you PM's saying they support your decision-making and the job that you're doing. Sometimes people will PM you to say they disagree with something you did, but think you're doing a good job, overall.
I wouldn't call it a completely, "Thankless," job, just that many thanks are unseen.
The most important criteria is to really enjoy these sites, a desire to help out and not minding the fact that you'll feel a responsibility to be around much more often than you were before that. There are no, "Hours," you'll just feel like you should be here.

Maybe there will be no new greenie, but a new secret mod who mods it up suspiciously similar to mission... I’m just sad I can’t Mission bash scot free anymore....I think I tried to get him to suspend me once or twice and he wouldn’t do it.

I was thinking Nathan but some wise person beat me to it! Next thought would be a practicing Christian to balance out the fools who don't believe the evidence and/or a dice influencer to balance out those who don't believe in physics.

The better question is, "How did Mission146 ever get it?" Other than experience Administrating other Forums, I think Mission146 is an insufferable, sarcastic, arrogant, sanctimonious and condescending cur who would be better not to be allowed to interact with other humans. That’s not to say nobody else suggested would be a good choice. Those were just two really strong suggestions. If we were having an Administrator Draft, I’d take either of them in the first round depending where my pick fell.
I’m $till on good term$ with my former bo$$ if anyone want$ a recommendation. Kidding, of course. Already made it. Wasn’t paid. Won’t disclose who publicly.

LMAO! :D Reminds me of the scene in Maleficent where Maleficent begins to feel really fondly of Aurora and realizes how messed up it was that she cursed an innocent baby for something the father did. She had cursed baby Aurora with a curse that no power on Earth could reverse. You guys know where I am going with this,don't you?
