Arrived in Baltimore Saturday. Not until Monday did I feel I was back at home. Driving us 83, about to merge with 695, when cell
phone rang. Wife answered, started saying Oh No, Oh No and dove into purse and started entering debit cards numbers into phone.

I grabbed debit card while crossing 4 lanes, wife hollering etc. Talk about a beautiful scam. Made me proud of the new generation.
Caller ID #000, recorded message, due to suspicious activity, your debit card has been locked. For further info enter your 16 digit
code now. Think about it, that's what Josie was doing. I am sure would have been asked for pin or more info next.

Absolutely beautiful scam. Victim is on vacation, probably made airline reservations, hotel, rental car , etc. An honest person might think the bank was trying to protect them, since their activity is much higher than usual.

Ain't technology wonderful. Don't even have to leave the bar to steal somebody's money. LOL

Seriously, warn other before they have a terrible vacation.

Next thing you know, she'll be getting interesting email from a Nigerian Princess.

And here I am thinking that this new thread, from the recently M.I.A. BuzzPaff, was an update on the family situation, and word that things are working out....

But seriously, I hope the family situation is working out ok. Our prayers are with you Buzz.

Not only do they scam you out of your money, but by calling your cell phone they make you pay for their call too!

Come on, first rule is to NEVER give your CC number to anyone who calls you. Even your bank states they wil never ask for it.

But a good warning for some.

...NEVER give...to anyone who calls you...

Absolutely - also the best way if you get a cold caller is ask for their number and ring them back - personally I don't even answer if there's no number, as they then have to leave it on the answer machine (although by then they've got my name). If they're genuine they'll leave a message. Also if you answer, criminals now know it's a genuine number.

It's all very sad, but the lesson is don't give anyone you don't know (that includes shops, casinos) your mobile phone number unless there's a scenario they need to contact you fast. I get junk texts from a casino that's miles away from me - personally I'm not interested in their latest poker competition.

Where do I enter my security code? :P
