Help the mathematically challenged today. You will feel better afterwards.

Double deck game, deal 20 cards, odds of 0 aces, odds of 8 aces.

Mathematically illiterate poster.

Please answer 1 in 60.3 , not .0024563, or S_k = \sum_{n=0}^{k}a_n = a_0 + a_1 + \cdots + a_k.

Is that a real problem?

How's this for an idiot way to increase house edge? Suppose craps did not pay on the pass line if the point is either 4, 6 or 8 and the dice hit 2-2, 3-3 or 4-4?

Yeah, waiting for meat to defrost is boring...

I was going to show how this is calculated, but I might scare away all the fish.
(there is another bus coming soon)

"Give a hungry man a fish and he will soon be hungry for more fish"
I think this is a Ben Franklin quote

"Teach him how to fish and he will have something else to do while he is still hungry for fish"
Sounds like Mark Twain

Based on your previous posts, I'm not sure if you're serious or not. In fact I think you just wanna see how many people will respond. But I like doing silly calculations also, so I did odds of getting 0 aces in first 20 draws. My number was roughly greater than 1 in 8, ~16.9%. I went by brute force, and I'm sure there's an easier way, but I can't remember it.

Drawing all 8 aces would be a little tougher using my slow inefficient method.

I haven't doubled checked my math' but I got:-

P(0 Aces) = 0.169 or 1 in 5.9

P(8 Aces) = 0.000000489 or 1 in 2,044,737

Sh*t, yeah I committed a typo. 1 in 6 roughly, not 1 in 8.

I am serious, just not good at math. Chances of 8 aces in first 20 cards from 2 decks.

I can recommend the hypergeometric distribution probability calculator of nerdbucket.com :http://www.nerdbucket.com/statistics/hypergeometric/ .
There you can easily calculate such mathematical problems.

This site also has a page saying what he thinks your ideal body weight should be.He says for a 6 foot male you should weigh 120 lbs.If you are 6 feet and weigh 160lbs he says you are fat.I hope his statistics work is better then his health work.LOL

I agree also.

Nice work, Switch.

I took one look at the question and thought, "Yeah, no thanks."

Thanks Mission,

I had to rely on my very rusty probability theory and I'm sure i did it the long way around ... I'm certainly not use to the excel functions which is obviously far quicker.
