Anyway, for May, he gets ZIP. He gets one buffet offer for the month, and no free play. What happened? Do you think he committed a "crime" and got punished? Or is this some policy change that they're doing to other locals? It's too bad too, because he enjoyed playing there, and it was a decent quarter play.
I know it's impossible to figure out what Boyd is doing with mailers. But are there any other MSS players (locals), who got spanked for May? Or did they just get sick of my friend playing JoB and nothing else and decided to punish him?
Quote: WizardofnothingIf he was only getting 5s and 10s on 6k coin in which is a 30 dollar adt it's very possible he played slightly less and was thus under the Freeplay threshold theo wise
You may be right. I'll see if he even knows where he stands on coin-in. Thanks.
He must have played less. He should continue to get the same mailers with the same level of play.
Quote: RomesYeah $5 and $10 free play is the bottom that they could possibly give... Doesn't sound like they're treating him too well to me. I'm not saying they should, given his lower level of play, but you telling him they are and not to "f*ck" it up is quite misleading.
He must have played less. He should continue to get the same mailers with the same level of play.
Perhaps I failed him by not keeping an eye on his coin-in. He's old and actually has a little brain damage and very poor memory. I try to help him, but I am not his keeper and I've been kinda busy and I don't live there in Vegas. He's a good friend for more than 30 years. I thought maybe MSS changed something but you guys are probably right about him playing under the threshold. I know he's been spending a lot of time at the Cannery lately. He probably did f--k it up. lol I'll tell him to give it another try and increase his play in May. Thanks for the input.
Oh, maybe I didn't say it right, They were giving him $5s and $10s to a total of over a hundred bucks a month. I thought that was pretty good. And he likes the place. So do I. I hope you guys are right. Thank you.
Those antiques are nice but they get dusty and tarnished. The carpet and bar areas could use an overhaul. Bathrooms too.
Quote: ZourahI have free offers for all the boyd properties, I think my buddy wants to use one of the rooms. Would you suggest Main Street station? Fremont? California? I don't think he wants to do the Gold Coast
I can't speak to the rooms or food, but if I were going to choose one for a trip I'd probably choose Orleans. They've got a pretty decent choice of games for my taste. I like downtown, but I like all of them. But gamewise, I'd pick Orleans. Two years ago my answer might have been different. Especially considering what has happened at Suncoast with their video poker inventory.
I'd pick MSS.
All the Boyd properties are fairly middle of the road. But I've never had a bad experience at any of them. They won't knock your socks off but they are solid.
The downtown rooms are small and the Fremont rooms still have Sloan valves on the toilets.
Gold Coast rooms are suprisingly nice but you can have a long walk from the elevator. There are a LOT of gambling and dining options there. Probably one of the best casinos for pure gambling in town.
I would disagree but I haven't been there in a while. I ALWAYS get a comp to the Noodle Exchange or Ping Pang Pong. Why go anywhere else? The Boyd buffets have always been exceedingly average. Once in a while they will have a good item or two.Quote: mcallister3200Do NOT eat the Gold Coast buffet. The worst Ive had in Vegas other than the former aptly named Terrible's.
Quote: teddys. I ALWAYS get a comp to the Noodle Exchange or Ping Pang Pong. Why go anywhere else?.
An aversion to long drawn out meals, if not much of a line or get a line pass I'll almost always pick a buffet for time reasons. Gold Coast I'd spend the extra time I guess.
Quote: mcallister3200I've found MSS to be decent although a bit overrated given lack of decent buffets downtown, Orleans next, Sams town Fremont and Suncoast are at least edible. Gold coast comes in last for sure IMO.
I preferred the MSS Buffet to that of the GN, which I considered to be somewhat overrated. With that said, buffets just kind of depend on what day you go, sometimes, in terms of who is preparing the food and what items you happen to get. I've been to each buffet once, and if I were to go to each again next time I am in Vegas, I would not be at all surprised to find that my opinion is the other way around and I will prefer GN to MSS.
We are going to do four nights of July and I think my friend might prefer just to go to the Downtown grand and then go over to Main Street station. The rest of us will be at Treasure Island or a Harrah's property of some sort but he really likes downtown and I totally understand that.

The GN buffet sucked a$$!! Fremont Sunday brunch was good. Can't screw up breakfast.
Quote: beachbumbabsI lost an entire day last year to the GN buffet. Sick as a dog. Never again
I didn't get sick, but I was 1000000000% disappointed. At least it was on a 2 for 1 coupon.

So it could have been 2000000000%? hehe
What's changed at the MSS buffet?

Dunno. It was fine last June. But that was about a year ago. Maybe they started skimping so Boyd could buy the Palms.

Then why did they let stations buy it?

DO'HHHHHHHHHHHHH
The waiter was NOT an official part of the buffet. Hopefully you are wiser now ;-)Quote: beachbumbabsI lost an entire day last year to the GN buffet. Sick as a dog. Never again
However that being said wicked spoon at Cosmo was good when it opened - for a buffet
Not sure if it has fallen off
I just can't see expecting good food at one- they are always almost a food orgy
If I'm expecting good food o just pick a restaurant especially in Vegas
Quote: JIMMYFOCKERMSS buffet disgusting
What specifically? I have always found it to be consistently one of the best value offerings in the whole city. What has changed since your last visit?
Quote: beachbumbabsI lost an entire day last year to the GN buffet. Sick as a dog. Never again
OMG
Happened to me also.
I think it was the seafood
I have eaten there since but stay away from seafood
Now I only eat seafood in coastal towns and cities now, not someplace landlocked way far from the Ocean.
In Clearwater we have a restaurant called Frenchy's
They have their own boats catching fish in the Gulf for the restaurant
Love their Grouper. Very fresh. Never gotten sick :-)
Quote: JIMMYFOCKERWicked Spoon, The M, and Wynn are three outstanding buffets
Have not been to Wicked Spoon or Wynn, but the M buffet is one of my regular stops when I go to vegas, especially since they send me BOGO mailers :) Plus, the 'play $850 in video poker to get a free weekday lunch buffet' comp is a pretty good deal as well.
I've taken my parents to the M buffet and both of them were pretty impressed.
No one mentioned Suncoast yet. It's also part of Boyd Gaming; has beautiful and spacious rooms overlooking golf course. The morning and lunch buffet (most the time) is only $7.50 or $7.99 when I went there a couple weeks ago. I played 4 Card Split and UTH, the dealers are very friendly and nice.Quote: ZourahI have free offers for all the boyd properties, I think my buddy wants to use one of the rooms. M buffet is a steal
The first day it'll be unlikely I'll remember anything, however
Quote: UCivanLove the M buffet. How much is it?
Usually in the $15-$40 range with it being $40 on the weekend. With a token amount of play you can get it for free (just present your card at the buffet after playing). The $40 most expensive one on the weekend will take about $2000 worth of coin-in, but check the sign outside the buffet first.
For what it's worth, I do not like the M buffet at all. I don't eat seafood and maybe their seafood is really good, but most everything else is bad. They don't have a breakfast buffet which is funny because if I'm over there in the morning I will see at least a dozen groups of people going to the buffet, seeing it's closed, then they turn around and leave.
Anyway, as far as the non-seafood options go, the white rice is too sticky/clumpy, the breaded Asian chicken option (varies - general tso's, lemon chicken, sweet & sour) is too breaded and they leave it too long so it's super soggy, the chicken skewers are too fatty, the steaks (when they have them) are too gristly, and the pizza and waffle fries are usually left out forever and are dry/disgusting. The three positives about the buffet are that alcoholic drinks are free, the dessert section is always good, and, as mentioned above, it's free if you're going to play there anyway. IF you can get the food right when they put it out it can be good, but I'd rather have the buffets at any of the nearby casinos (South Point, Silverton, GVR) rather than the M.

Silverton buffet over the M
No
No
No!!!!!!!
Agree that M's Chinese and pizza on buffet suck, but pizza at like every buffet ever sucks. Salad and dessert selection are quite good.
Bacchanal and Wynn are great too, but not as good as Cosmo's. The buffet at Paris was pretty good, too.
The M buffet -- not a huge fan. Never had anything that was like, "Wow, I want more of that." But, I'll eat there if it's free or really cheap.
Never been too impressed with Stations buffets.
Palms buffet, when I ate there last a long time ago, wasn't too shabby either, from what I remember.
Quote: RSWicked Spoon @ Cosmo is the best buffet in LV. It is not opinion, it is fact. If you disagree -- you are wrong. End of story. Everything I enjoyed very much, except that weird oriental food stuff (but I never like that kinda food anyway).

Agree for most part. If we're going to go with best quality. IF I actu have to pay for it, I'm not eating a buffet if I have to pay what Cosmo or Wynn costs, I'm just going to a restaurant.
If we're going down the value route, some of the stations are good but there's a big difference between them (palace awful). Palms pretty good value, westgate when it was lvh was a good value especially for locals, seriously downgraded now though.

Wicked Spoon is excellent but I still think that I would choose Bacchanal over it. Wynn is just crap IMO. I ate there twice and had horrible food and service, maybe just unlucky both times.

I had the same experience. I can't believe they charged $40 for it. I went with a friend that was a tourist that likes most buffets and he thought it sucked too.
Quote: GWAEI have never heard anyone say Wynn was crap. I had some of the best food ever there. Or maybe I was just happy because they had king crab legs sawed in half so I didn't have to hurt my hands on the spikes.
Bacchanal and Wicked Spoon have the crab legs sawed in half too. Actually I think bellagio as well.

You are a n00b bacchanal is God tier. Cosmo is decent but you are smoking some good stuff to think it's better than caesers

My g/f actually left hungry at Wicked Spoon. Almost everything she picked had some spicy kick to it, and she can't handle stuff like that. In the last few years, the best buffets we had were at GVR/Red Rock and Aria for strip buffets. Haven't tried Bacchanal/Wynn though.
