I was playing Deuces wild at Palace Station

Dang, I thought this would be another "hat" puzzle based on your title.
Since I'm here, that would be very fortunate to find a deuces game that paid 1,000 to 1, considering most of them pay 199 to 1 (or 200 for 1). Double Decues pays 399 to 1 (or 400 for 1).
I suspect what happened is you bet five coins and was paid 1000 coin, which would equate to a win of 200 for 1, which is true for just about every standard Deuces Wild game.
