I usually walk around a new casino to look for the
best VP paytables for the games where I know
the strategy fairly well. And/or I have an idea
what that is from VPFREE2, so I still walk around
to find them.

And I'll play the game with the best paytable
( duh ).

But Mrs. Q will plop down and play whatever
Dueces Wild machine she sees first. Whether
or not it is the best paytable. And whether or
not there is a better JoB game right next to it.

So I admit I find that mildly annoying, since she
knows better.

Should I...

- Get over it ?

- Get counseling with her ?

- Enroll her in some math classes at the
community college ?

- Learn one of the easier strategies to
beat double zero roulette ?

Gambling is all about entertainment to the masses. The Wiz and Bob Dancer have a different priority, but for the masses, you gotta look at it as entertainment. She enjoys playing deuces wild, then its the right game for her. What you lose is the cost of that entertainment. If you win, even better, you got entertainment and made money, too me thats a double bonus.
Some video poker players just wing it without playing proper strategy, Casinos love those players. There enteratinment just costs more. Some have more fun winging it instead of playing proper strategy. Different strokes for different folks.
Its just a forum. Nothing here to get obsessed about.

How much is she playing?

If it's like 5-6 hours total a year, I'd get over it.

If it's on the order of 30-40 hours a year, thousands of resolutions, you could do the math and show how much she's wasting over a five year period. If she doesn't understand or care about that, ball's in your court.

I cry because...

She loves Sheldon !

And yep, it's probably 30-40 hours
per year. But I guess only 1/2 of
that is at a crappy paytable.

If she is playing at a 0.8% deficit for 20 hours in a year at quarters with a 500 hand/hr rate, it's $100 for the year. Meh, still probably not worth a fight. I'm biased toward Deuces over JoB though.

With equivalent paytables I also like
Dueces Wild better than JoB.

people dont care. people dont listen. i remember being at the casino with my dad and he was playing 5c denomination deuces wild where they paid 10 for a straight flush and 15 for five of a kind. in a row of machines directly behind him there was a 5c game that paid 13 for a straight flush and 16 for five of a kind. i told him he should switch to that bank of machines right behind him since it paid better. even pointed at the paytable on his screen and said this pays 13 instead of 10 and 16 instead of 15. he refused saying he liked the machine he was on better.

Pretty much the same thing has happened between me and my mother. Nothing can pull her away from a machine she feels is lucky. She also has a very set system of either winning $x or losing $y, whichever marker comes first. Once she sits down at a machine there is no hope to get her out of the seat until she makes her daily goal or busts out trying. I've given up trying to convert her to at least playing good pay tables. If you think that is hard, try getting her to listen to any strategy advice. Sadly, I think she would make a good Rob Singer convert.

Get over it.

The same way I got over my wife's occasional desire to play $1 BJ with 25¢ ante. Yeah, it makes me want to hit my head against the wall, but I can't argue with her, ahem, "logic".

lol i feel the same way about my dad. my dad says you got to fool the machine and make plays its not expecting.

my dad likes only playing deuces wild and a lot of times he would keep just an ace so i at least got him to switch to deuces wild bonus poker thinking keeping a lone ace wont hurt you nearly as much in that game as regular deuces wild.

If he is holding a sole ace, did you try to convert him to DDB first? But I guess that would go against the "fool the machine" strategy he has. :(

My mother could care less about odds/paytables as well Wiz. The last time she probably played a full pay machine was when I fed her a stake on a slot/VP rebate. I told her to play the full pay machines at Harrah's STL. She also has an affinity for Deuces, so she played 99.45% BDW vs. 99.8% TB+. Usually she is one of the casino's most favorite customers, playing penny slots at roughly $1/pull. :(

These are the type of people that belong in the "define a ploppy" thread.

I hate to say that about my own mother, but I agree that she is a machine "ploppy". I try to remind her of the randomness the machines have, but she doesn't buy it. When I run really bad, I even occasionally will question it. But with all the gaming laws I have read, I know they are definitely random.
