Golfed with friend yesterday…. Said he just got back from Vegas to see the Dead show. Guy paying in front of us says he also just got back after seeing them. Plus other golf buddy also went a week or two ago. All say how great the show was.
How many more shows for you?

Show number 22 for me. Another strong performance by the band. They opened with miracle and John Mayer was playing Jerry's old Alligator guitar. Pretty neat seeing that. Bobby flubbed one of the lyrics to Eyes and quickly corrected himself. The band is giving a bass solo spotlight to Oteil in Eyes. Casey Jones was killer. Real long exploratory intro into Dark Star. Dear Mr Fantasy into the Hey Jude reprise is a lot of fun as everybody sings along. Beautiful Knockin on Heavens Door. Finished off with the after show band in the Copa Room

Another show in the books. 23 for me. Always fun to get a Franklin's Tower in the 1st set. B.E. Woman is such a crowd pleaser these days. Viola Lee blues rocked with John getting down on the Blues. Got another Sphere breakout. Bob Dylans classic A Hard Rains Gonna Fall. It was beautifully done. Such a great song with such haunting lyrics. Fun show overall. Of course finished up at the Tuscany Copa room after show party.

Show number 24. Whew. Been here so many times, starting to call the place home lol. Another top notch show. Opened up with the Wilson Pickett classic, In the Midnight Hour. 1st time played in the Sphere. Cold Rain was awesome as John was bringing it. Bobby flubbed a Loser lyric but meaningless as John's guitar solo was so beautiful. Of course Sugaree is a song where John can really shine and he did not disappoint. Great to get Sat Nite opening the 2nd set. That means a surprise last song. I can't tell you how many Sat Nites I got as an encore on a Sat nite back when the Grateful Dead were playing. Too predictable back then. Good to see Dead and Co mix it more then the GD. Help>Slip>Althea was magnificent. These days, hard to predict what comes after Slipknot unlike the GD days. St Stephen was great with John touching on the Eleven riff. St Stephen has really become a vehicle for John to really jam and explore all through the residency and tonight's was no different. Space I could hear a modified voice saying something about no government is the best government. Weird. Out of Space the big surprise of the evening. Bob Dylans Baby Blue. 1st time in the Sphere and 1st ever performance by Dead and Co. Bobby performed it beautifully as he should. I often got it as an encore back in the GD day's. Overall a wonderful show. Of course finished off in the Copa room. It was jam packed.

Wow. My unit is so efficient. It's small, 20 footer, and it's has extra insulation and no side out. What can run on solar does such as my refrigerator, all lights and some other stuff.
Despite the heat, this is one of the cheapest cities in the country to camp in a RV. 600 a month plus electricity

I found electricity to be rather expensive in Las Vegas. I was paying over $600 a month in the summer.

Yea
Cooling over 10x the area I am
Paying 10x what I am paying
Sounds about right
I'm just keeping the bare minimum area for comfortable living cool.

That’s a good size for one person. How many watts of solar? What’s been the highest rental spot in the U.S. so far? I imagine you’ve been to quite a few by now.

Show number 25 for me. Jerry Garcia Birthday show. Brought my nephew along for the show. Right off noticed John's finger was injured. Must be serious because that finger never touched a fret. He had his middle, ring and pinky doing all the fret work and he was blazing as usual on the guitar. 3rd song big surprise. James Taylor's How Sweet it is. The Grateful Dead never played it but it was played by Jerry Garcia Band often. Loved hearing Dead and Co doing it but the band didn't do the backup vocals like JGB does. Still loved it. Next big surprise, out of Space, Bobby came out solo to play Jerry's Lazy River Road. 1st solo performance by Bobby in the Sphere. Well almost solo, Mickey stayed out and lightly played the beam adding some texture to Lazy River Road. Appreciated the appropriate Hes Gone. All the other songs were beautifully done. Even with the injured finger, John still excelled.
Also some new visuals. The skeleton riding the motorcycle now continues into the sky. Another new visual is animated dancers. Another new visual is a new curtain.

Another Dead show. Number 26 for me. Of course treated my nephew to another show. Overall a very strong show. Second set Dark Star had a very long introduction as the band just touched on the theme lightly for several minutes before diving in. Estimated featured a really long strong jam in the middle. Eyes was incredible featuring Oteil going for it on bass. St Stepen went so strongly into the Eleven jam , I thought they were about to bust out the 11 but they brought it back home gong back into St Stephen. Seemed 2nd set songs so long, concert running late and we only got 3 songs after Space instead of 4 or 5.
New visual of a stadium. Not sure if this represents a real venue. Definitely a city stadium with buildings in the background. The stadium is fill with dancing skeletons.
We got a 2nd showing of the fantastic new visual of the motorcycle continuing into the sky. Unfortunately it was shown during Deal and was cut off half way through. I took a few videos of this new wonderful visual. Really need to use that visual on a longer song so we get the whole thing like the 1st showing the previous night. We also got the dancing spinners again during Eyes. Overall I'm not thrilled with this visual as the dancers are obviously dancing to a different beat then the actual music we are hearing. A little off putting. It also gets pretty repetitive as Eyes is a long song. Should have done motorcycle with the new part 2 during eyes so we get the whole visual to the end. Overall had a wonderful time. Of course finished in the Copa room where the band did a kick ass Help>Slip>Althea

The only place I can think of two hours east of Vegas that I liked was the St George/Cedar City area. A beautiful place in the summer. From there head to Grand Junction Colorado and Colorado Springs.

Number 27. I can't wait to leave town lol. Only intended to winter here but they announced the residency so here I still am in my RV. Of course brought my nephew to his 3rd Sphere show. Another strong Dead and Co show. Love the interplay between Jeff and John. Looked like they were having too much fun going back and forth on a lot of songs but especially Shakedown. A bit disappointed we only got 3 songs before drums instead of the traditional 4. Brown Eyed Women we got brand spankin new visuals. All the Europe 72 art. Kind of neat seeing ice cream man actually put the ice cream on his head. Loved this new visual. Of course lots of pics. I'm always thrilled with new visuals. We got to see the fabulous Skeleton motorcycle part 2 visual again. Unfortunately it was displayed during U.S. blues which is somewhat a short song so we of course got all of part 1which I've seen since opening weekend and an abbreviated part 2. I'm hoping they do this next weekend on a longer song so we get the whole part 2 visual. I think motorcycle part 2 is one of the best visuals and it's such a shame we only saw the complete visual once and abbreviated twice. Now that Skeleton motorcycle is 2 parts, should only be displayed on the longer songs so we get the complete eye candy. Of course finished the night at the Copa Room at the Tuscany casino

Number 28. Only 2 more to go. My good friend Sue, who also grew up in Columbia Md, came into Vegas for the last 3 Dead shows. She has some difficulty walking and the Spheres 1st class customer service took care of her. As soon as we arrived in an Uber, the Sphere immediately noticed her cane and asked if we needed assistance. She said yes and she soon had a wheelchair and were taken to our seats from the parking lot. We were able to reserve a wheelchair for leaving the Sphere. It did take a long time to get wheelchair service exiting but that's to be expected with everybody leaving at the same time. Sphere service took us right to the front of the cab line and that cab line was long and looked like at least an hour wait if not longer.
Another great show. Eyes of the world was magnificent. So jazzy and beautifully played. As usual, Eyes featured Oteil on bass and it was wonderful. This is really the only song where the band will feature Oteil's bass prowess. Don't know why they don't feature Oteil in more songs. Got a long meandering jam filled Playing in the Band 1st set. Back in the Grateful Dead days in the latter part of their career, so rare to get Eyes or Playing in the 1st set. The GD generally saved long jammy songs like Eyes and Playing for the 2nd set. Not Dead and Co. They mix it up so much, there is no such thing as 1st set songs and 2nd set songs. With the GD, most songs were either 1st set songs or 2nd set songs. Dead and Co mix it up so much, any song can and are played in either set. Finished the 1st set with a strong Let It Grow. I personally think this song is the best peice of music Bobby has ever wrote. A really great song with a strong jam riff climaxing with "I am, I am, I am !!!!!!!!!!!. Only 3 songs before drums instead of the usual 4. I somehow feel I'm not getting full value for my money when the band does this.
Another 1st played in the Sphere tune, Passenger. Loved it.
Overall was very entertained by this show and that's what it's all about.
As to visuals. We have had red flowers, yellow flowers and red white blue flowers. They dropped purple flowers with the spinners dancing so thats kind of new. They also cut the length the Skeleton motorcycle part 1 down so we got to see all the new wonderful skeleton motorcycle part 2 visual.

I imagine you'll take 40 from Nevada to Oklahoma. Have you visited the Alpine region of Arizona? It's a bit southwest of the Petrified Forest, west of Winslow. It is a spectacular part of the country, and Route 191 from Alpine to Morenci is the scariest road I've ever driven. Nicknamed the Devil's Highway( its original designation was Highway 666), it's a never-ending series of incredible switchbacks as you go from 2,000 feet to almost 10,000, back down to 2,000, and up to 8500 multiple times. They don't allow large trailers, but I wouldn't recommend it even with your small one. Park the trailer and do the run. The Witching Well is officially closed, but everyone knows signs have two meanings.
In Oklahoma, Tulsa has some incredible architecture and statues, and Norman has a unique vibe. I compare it to Austin but don't say that to folks from either city. I really wanted to like Albuquerque, but it was impossible.

Down to the home stretch. 29th show. Of course had Sue with me again. Sphere service is 1st class as they noticed her with a cane as soon as she got out of the Uber and got her a wheelchair. We got to the Sphere early and made arrangements for a wheelchair leaving. Apparently the wheelchair exit service based on when you order and we ordered early. Wheelchair was right there at the end of the show. No waiting like last nite. They take you through the employees area to the front of the cab line. We were in a cab literally just minutes after the show.
Wonderful show. Only 5 songs for the 1st set but thrilled with the performances. Set 2 they open with the band touching on Dark Star theme for several minutes before diving in for the 1st half of the song then going into El Paso and finally back into Dark Star. Wow. A spacey Dark Star into a cowboy song and back into Dark Star. Face melted. Scarlet Begonias and Fire often separated during the Sphere run. Nice to get the traditional Scarlet>Fire but no transition. WTF. They gave Scarlet a proper ending then started Fire. I much prefer the classic transition where the jam evolves from Scarlet to Fire. Drums/Space always awesome in the haptic seats. Another killer Sugaree as I recorded a video of John burning it up as usual. Awesome Morning Dew perfectly timed for the landing into Haight. Of course NFA one of the most fun ways to close out a show

As you pass east of Albuquerque, Route 66 runs alongside it. If you hope off 40 at Tucumcari, take 66 as the service road, and you'll pass the ruins of dozens of old gas stations and some great murals depicting 66's heyday.

Thanks
Love stuff like that
I can't wait to leave Vegas
I can't believe people will live here in the Summer
It's just so absurdly hot in the summer to the point it's unhealthy
I love spending time outside
I've never ever spent so much time inside during a Summer in my life.
I'll probably be back next year
Looks like Dead and Co signed a multi year deal
Rumor is next Spring

Last show tonight
30 Dead and Co shows in a row for me
Never seen so many shows in a row in my life
Retirement is wonderful
Before this run, most Grateful Dead shows I saw in a row at 1 venue was 5 at the Oakland Coliseum around 1994.
I did see a lot of 6 show runs, 3 in one city and 3 in the next city.

That pretty well matches my experience.
There may be redeeming qualities, but they deftly eluded me.
May the cards fall in your favor.
