Thank you so much for the sentiment. All is reasonably well. I was waiting on some last minute injury news (McCaffrey, et al.) before making picks. A female relative who lives nearby had am external water pipe burst due to the cold temperatures and her basement was accumulating water. I went to help and forgot about the picks contest until the deadline was past. So, yes, no good deed goes unpunished!
I completed the grading for the Conference Semi-Final in the previous post, so please confirm your week there if you care to. I do plan to look it over one more time, so there shouldn't be any mistakes.
With that, here were the Standings going into the week:
UnJon: $850
VegasBrent: $850
Sparty10k: $755
SOOPOO: $750
Gordonm888: $721
GenWyzgy: $672
JML24: $600
PlayYourCardsRight: $558
Mission146: $554
OdiousGambit: $550
JohnZimbo: $500
NCFatCat: $500
Scolist: $350
IndyJeffrey: $350
JohnnyQ: $350
Joeman: $220
DJChaps: $175
Nunbeater: ELIMINATED
Here are the new Standings:
1.) Unjon: $1,345
2.) Genwyzgy: $872
3.) VegasBrent: $865
4.) OdiousGambit: $650
5.) JML24: $600
6.) SOOPOO: $517
7.) Sparty10k: $450
8.) PlayYourCardsRight: $420
9.) Scolist: $400
10.) JohnnyQ: $250
11.) Mission146: $249
12.) DJChaps: $200
13.) IndyJeffrey: $200
14.) Joeman: $161
15.) NcFatCat: $100
JohnZimbo: Eliminated
Gordonm888: Eliminated (DQ)
Nunbeater: Eliminated
I checked for errors and the only one I found was Standings (not actually grading) because I fat-fingered SOOPOO into $217 (number pad), rather than $517, and have since corrected that. Please feel free to double check the grading, but I believe everything else is correct.
The story of this week is two eliminations, but mostly UnJon taking a commanding lead. Betting entirely on the Chiefs game (and after an excellent Wildcard Weekend), UnJon nailed everything about that game perfectly and now has a bankroll of $1,345, making GenWyzgy a distant second place with $872, which is $473 less.
I would say everyone from Scolist up should be in decent shape to try to take a stab at finishing in the cash, but some on the lower end of that are going to be thinking about taking some +ODDS shots. Anyone at or below JohnnyQ will likely be having shot-taking on their minds and will likely need some help besides.
The All Dogs to win strategy certainly didn't pay off for me, but I really didn't like having so many people significantly ahead of me, so I decided it was time to pick my hill to die on. I'm not quite dead, but it's definitely a Monty Python and the Holy Grail moment. Interestingly, I wouldn't have done this strategy had I known Gordon was going to DQ; I had noticed that he hadn't made his Picks when I made mine; my assumption was that he would make his Picks and it wouldn't have been right to change my strategy based on whether or not he made his picks anyway, so I just made mine.
I wish everyone luck as we go into the Conference Championships. The only games are Sunday, starting at 3:00p.m. (EST) so everyone can expect lines on Thursday with a deadline of noon Sunday.
For each game, we are going to do six main line type bets and seven props; the Super Bowl will have more prop bets added to make at least twenty total lines to choose from.

That was intentional; it was something like -125/+105 yesterday (as I recall), so I just did something with it. I guess I could have made both -110, but that's more of a PITA number for people to deal with. It's a strange line in being a half point off a key push number.
The Conference Championship Picks reminders have been sent.

NOTES:
1.) As you can see, I'm not bending over backwards to make the formatting uniform; given that I am grading these manually, there are few enough players that as long as I can tell what the Picks are, it's fine.
2.) For next year's Playoff Picks Game, assuming we keep the same format, I'm going to adjust prop lines to allow for props of up to +500; I think I went too far the other way considering that we have an actual TO WIN line that matches the maximum +ODDS allowed for props.
Quote: VegasbrentI didn't really have strong feelings for the games this weekend, but decided to let it ride (almost) regardless. I'm really hoping for a high scoring Detroit/SF game since Unjon and I bet opposite on that one.

LFG! I love playoff football.
SF secondary is trash so I could see a crazy 4Q garbage time tipping this over. I would have much preferred betting a first half total under 25.5, but Mission did not provide that.

1.) Please feel free to double-check my grading for the Conference Championship, as well as the Standings.
2.) Unjon was uncharacteristically passive in the Conference Championship, which might have been a good thing, as he lost both bets. However, OdiousGambit had an absolute monster of a Sunday and has now claimed the First Place spot.
3.) With Lines as high as +300, I would say if you're still in it, then you're still in it. There are certainly a few players that will have to throw everything (or almost everything) on one outcome hoping that nobody shares that Pick (Hey, that's how I won this last year!), but pretty much everyone except NCFatCat who is still in has a realistic chance to claim first place. I would say NCFatCat could possibly finish in the money, but is going to need a lot of losing from the folks above him.
Aside from that, I'd say if you're listed at SOOPOO or above, and you're willing to make an aggressive move if you're on the lower part of that listing, then you might be able to sneak a first place finish out of this game.
4.) As I mentioned on the Lines post, I think a cap of +300 Props is too low, so the cap next time will be +500. The idea is for everyone not eliminated to have some sort of chance, but I do want to allow for the taking of bigger shots than +300; the other problem is that we had a 'TO WIN' line (Lions) that ended up being the +ODDS cap for props, so that's certainly not the purpose of the cap.
Of course, the Line I won on last year was a +500 Line.
I guess what I'm saying is that the game was pretty good the first time and I shouldn't have tried to adjust it.

Anyone want to bet on SOOPOO finishing 5th?
Unjon and I made a combined total of 7 bets on the Superbowl. We won a combined total of 0 of those bets, but we did have 2 of the same bets: Eagles -1.5 and the UNDER 51.
Winning is still in the realm of possibility for those left with money!
Good luck everyone!

I will bet you any amount of money that the Chiefs do not win the Super Bowl today; I don't want to bet on whether or not they'll win it next week.

I wouldn't think so; I think you can still put $100 up based on whether or not the Chiefs win when the game is actually played. I also don't want you to think I was making fun of you for misspeaking; it was just an innocent joke that I hoped you'd also find amusing.

Thanks as always for doing this.
To me, P is ambiguous.
By longest drive, do you mean longest drive? Or longest drive resulting in a score? Or longest drive resulting in a TD?

I take it to mean just drive. Keep in mind you’d be talking about a drive starting deeper in your own territory than even a kickoff touchback is these days.

I am not trying to be a (nickname for Richard), so to be clear, chiefs get the ball at own 5 yard line, drive to opponents 10 yard line, the bet is won? Or does the drive have to be completed? If they lose ten yards and end up on the 20 yard line it is now a loss?
And of course, I assume the yards of a field goal kicked do not get included in a ‘drive’?

Drives are net yards; successful FGs don’t add distance to drives; the drive just ends with a field goal. If the Chiefs drove from the ten to the opposite ten, then the bet would win as that would be an eighty yard drive. Such drives would also typically end in a score, barring fumble, interception or turnover on downs (in the event going for it on 4th down makes sense.)
In any event, I got the line from DraftKings and it didn’t specify that it be a scoring drive in any way.
Quote: VegasbrentNo TAILS or 49ers to win coin toss seems odd.

Those were mostly for filler anyway and are, essentially, the same bet as far as I’m concerned. I mainly just included those to offer a few additional even money options.
Quote: VegasbrentFor G and H, is it score or TD?

TD is generally the only way the players in question would score, but it says, ‘Anytime score,’ so if Deebo Samuel were to, for some reason, kick a field goal—it would count.
If they were to throw a pass, it would not count; they’d not be construed as the player who scored.

His question was most likely referring to scoring a two point conversion.

Ha! I missed that. Two point conversions do not count to ANYTIME scorer bets because the touchdown is what constitutes a score.
You may want to change that to ANYTIME TD. Not trying to be picky, but other options have "TD" in the description, but these 2 have "score."
Quote: VegasbrentI would argue that a 2-point conversion is a score, but you clarified it in your response.

I can if you prefer, but I don’t think that’s actually technically accurate. I believe if they actually were to kick a FG, or somehow recover a safety (on defense or ST), it would count as a score for purposes of the bet.

A ‘pick two’, meaning an interception during a two point conversion attempt, returned all the way to the end zone, is a ‘score’ in my book. But you are positing that the actual successful two point conversion is not a score?
I’d change it to TD for clarity.

Mission are you sure that DK wouldn’t draft a 2 point conversion as a win here? Not clear to me, but maybe you dug through their rules.
