This may be a longshot on this forum, but has anyone ever participated in a Calcutta? I'll be doing my first for the World Cup, and I'm wondering if there is a way to create a formula to know when there is value.

I'm fully expecting this thread to never be replied to. Maybe I'll be surprised...

I have participated in many Calcuttas for Poker tournaments and Pool tournaments. I don't think a formula is very applicable because the skill level of the participants is the variable that needs to be solved.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

That, and the fact that Calcuttas are pari-mutuel - you don't know what the value of any bet will be until all of the teams are selected, as you won't know the prize payouts before then.
