I went to turn on OT of the Jackets game and it was already over, what happened?

Foligno attempted to ruin my trip right as I got into AC. But it won't work!

Fleury was a broken man out there. A simple wrister from the blue line with no traffic. He went down, whiffed it, and just got up without looking and went to the locker room.

He is broken.

At least Miller's OT goal doesn't sound as weak. I'm still annoyed that the Blues never have given Brian Elliott the long-term nod...

I could be wrong but I believe he is a FA this year. I wonder what the pens will do.

Somewhere earlier I posted about the worst playoff goalie..... Mr. Fleury..... I said Pens will need to score 5 to win..... They GOTTA switch to backup....
VERY happy with Montreal win.... Having watched Vanek for a decade here he is very under rated. If he ever had a top notch center we'd be talking about him as one of the leagues best...

Danny Briere, too. Told you, a stint in Buffalo scares everyone straight ;)

I dunno. I'm not really aware of his performance as of late. My comment about him being broken was just from seeing him from the end of the third where he whiffed controlling the puck on a dump in until the OT goal. That whiff, which resulted in the tying goal with just seconds to go in the third, shook him bad. You could see it plain as day. He was all jittery and out of position... he had all the composure of a high school sophomore.

Struggling against the Blue Jackets... this isn't a good look =/

There has to be something wrong with face's favorite player. He has been basically invisible and Columbus is not good enough to shut him down like they have.

I'm gonna kill him. This is the biggest chance I took, PENS at 14 and BJS at 1. I mean, it's Columbus. Stop messing around -_-

I've always had a conspiracy theory that the two clubs in a playoff series agree that whoever wins the best of 3 games will win the series. Then they stretch it out to 7 games to maximize the gate revenue for both clubs.

I am really sick of hearing quotes from this pens team that they didn't have a good enough effort. They have been saying this since the Olympics. They need to man up and STFU and play.

I have PIT at 12 pts, which is one of the lowest picks, and I have CBJ at 2 points which is higher than most people with 1. I guess I should root for CBJ, as that would do more damage to others, but since Odious has CBJ at 7 points, that would put him out in front of me. Oh the choices......

Probably so. But I just noticed that most people unanimously picked Pittsburgh high and, with the exception of OG and Babs, picked Columbus very low. If I get screwed, we all get screwed.

I also noticed that with CHI advancing, the Buffalo boys are running away with this thing ;) Of course, I predicted this at the jump...

Rangers? That remains to be seen =p

And define "fine". If I weren't so bloody poor, I'd be setting up quite the wager with you right about now.

And "not sure" about Boston? You really are a homer, aren't you? ;) IF they make it to Boston, and that's a big "if", they will suffer a defeat so badly it will affect them in the afterlife. And that's assuming the Habs don't take Boston out themselves (I'm a homer, too ;))

I can not remember a first round as dramatic as this year. Tell me again why the NHL is the #4 sport in the US? I get NFL being at the top of the heap, but really, the NBA and MLB really provide a better sports viewing experience than the NHL. What are all those guys watching? They certainly can't be watching the two month second season that is the Stanley Cup Playoffs!!

I was trying to determine where everyone stood in the game, and came up with this chart. My concept may have flaws in it, but I am sure this group will pick off any fatal errors.

The winning team will get 4 Series Wins, so at the start, every one of the 16 teams could have been the winner.
So all 16 teams represent a potential 544 points == 4x(1+2+3+..16).
The teams that have already been eliminated are points we will never get, so I took the points we assigned to that team, and multiplied by 4.
I think this view shows that even though SOOPOO is leading right now with 66 points, Face and FinsRule are in a better position, as they have lost teams with lower point values assigned to them.

LOL yes maybe I am acting like a homer but thats ok. I think part of that reason is all I hear about is Pens, Pens, Pens.. Radio, TV, print, news alerts. If it makes you feel any better, I couldn't take a bet anyways because I am "bloody" poor to.

I actually think the Habs have a good shot at Boston and I like the Pens match up better vs Habs than Boston.

One of the many bonuses of not having TV or radio; no subliminal influences ;)

Of course, that leaves me to explain my Leafs love with logic only, and that's a tough nut to crack XD

For sure the Pens would do better against the Habs, but I don't have much hope. When I watch the Habs, I don't get a sense of "roundness". Subban, Vanek, Briere... they have a lot of dynamite in a few players. Lose one, and the atmosphere changes dramatically.

Boston, on the other hand, is just deeper. There is no single player they could lose that would affect them as dramatically as Montreal losing one of their stars. On every front, except maybe goalie, Boston is the better team. I totally expect another Bean Town Cup

# I no much like LA.

But that's West coast, and I barely recognize anything out there anyways. Too busy hoping Philly takes it to 7.

Not really much to add to this, other than "YES!!" Nothing is better than NHL playoff season. The only bad thing I can say about it is towards the end, the games come a little too slow. It feels sort of anti-climactic to have 2-3 games a day to start, and then end with a game every other day.

But my favorite thing that's outside the sport? The commercials. Any other sport, it feels all about the money. Playoffs equals viewers, so let's pump as many in as we can. When the Cup goes into OT, there's not one single commercial to break the flow. Just highlights and commentary, keeping you riveted and your brain engaged. I love it! =D

WAIT WHAT... No TV or Radio. How do you live.

I can not stand LA but for the sake of our poll I have them at 16. I am the only one with them that high so it would be much help for me.

Easy on the West Coast bashing.....we have had a few Cups out here in the not so distance past.....and we do have all three teams in the playoffs which ain't too shabby.

I mean I understand bashing the West Coast of CANADA.....with them burning down the City and all.....that and no Cups in.........ever, right? You go get'em Canucks.....Torts is definitely the right answer going forward and Vigneault was definitely the piece that needed to go......just ask those Blue Shirt fans once their Rangers get by Philly later tonight how dissatisfying Alain has been :-).

It's not a personal thing, nor a performance thing. I don't have anything resembling hate towards any of them. Probably my strongest feeling in the West is towards Phoenix, because I just don't understand it. Phoenix? Hockey? Does not compute.

I suppose I'm ethnocentric, but regional instead of ethnicity. If it's not the Great Lakes region or the Northeast, I don't quite get it.

LA? Might as well be Mars. It's just weird there =p

Anyways... Let's Go, Flyers!!

I hear ya Face.....LA is weird and I went to college at UCLA so it isn't like I didn't get a full experience of the city.

Phoenix and hockey doesn't compute, but neither does Dallas & hockey. From what I understand, Dallas has a huge local amateur and high school hockey community all due to the Stars efforts locally to build rinks and educate the community. They love their hockey in Dallas these days and the NHL is better off as a result.

Ditto in San Jose and in Orange County.....home of my Ducks. The Ducks have acquired rinks, and built up a local high school hockey program that now boasts like 15-20 Orange County High Schools. Gretzky did amazing things for hockey in LA and as a result things got going in OC and up in SJ as well.

NHL teams are doing amazing things in a lot of cities. Before Mario came to town in the 80s Pittsburgh had something like 3 rinks. My high school hockey team had to practice at something like 4 in the morning and the rink was in a different county about 40 minutes away. Mario invested a lot of time, effort, and money into the hockey scene in and near Pittsburgh. Now there are something like 40 rinks in the area (number made up but it is close). There are some top recruits coming out of this city and some NHL players. We had the frozen 4 in town last year. All of this is because of the NHL and the Pens owners. If they didn't put this effort into growing the sport they would have left this town 20 years ago.

I moved to Raleigh, from Northeastern PA in 1997. One year later, the Hartford Whalers moved to Carolina. Meanwhile, I had decided to check into the local adult hockey leagues in the area. There were 3 ice houses, and they all had adult leagues. However, adult games were either scheduled between 11:00 Pm to 1:00 AM, or from 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM weekdays. The other times were all used up by the junior leagues. I was stunned.
Hockey just ain't a northern thing any more y'all.

As a Leafs fan, I will expect a beginning that will boggle the mind and violate every law of probability, only to wither and fade somewhere past midway.

According to RC's little breakdown, I am in the best position to win SO FAR. The beginning is going exactly how I said it would.

Allez le Habitants!

Montreal not only won, but served up the only sweep of round 1.

I dunno what the final was, but when I checked in on the second period, it was Flyers 4-0.

Looks like I'm batting a thousand, so let me predict a bounty of wealth - spiritual, physical, and financial - for all the participants of the NHL pool!

Now let's all hope I got that in before my luck runs out ;)

Tonight should be one of the most exciting nights ever in round 1. THREE game 7 finals all on the same night.

A much clearer picture of the pool leaders should emerge after tonight.

And this has turned out to be the bright spot in a layoff/forced retirement scenario...... I get to watch the west coast games until 1:00 AM with no worries about having to get up to go to work the next day..... :-D

Nice quick edit. I was gonna say I dunno whether to watch my home game of NY v Philly, my favorite goalie coach to victory, or step into LALA land and watch those weird westerners, or just turn out this PC and stream all three... but what I DO know is I probably won't make it to work tomorrow ;)

Well, hopefully Philly has dispatched with NY sufficiently by 9:30 so I can change to the Colorado game. But San Jose starts at 10:00, so that presents a bit of a problem. Thank goodness the intermissions are so long..... I should be able to see quite a bit of both games ;-)

Rangers will win this one I think. Whatever benefits Pittsburgh and I much rather face NY.
