Quote: deedubbsdoes the .65 include the confidence bonus? that would change a lot.
Interestingly, not really, from after Week 12, last season:
Quote: MyselfI have our answer on Confidence Picks.
Discluding the Confidence Picks for SF/CHI as all wins from that game have been eliminated we are 65-58 (Credited 130-116) for .528 on Confidence Picks, which is actually slightly below the league overall record.
If we eliminate 65-58 from the record, then we are 519-437 for .543, so as you can see, CP's make us worse as opposed to better.
Now, that .528 on Confidence Picks is better than the overall record with which we finished the season last year. Week 13 was unbelievable for Confidence Picks, at 10-3, Week 14 was 5-7 on Confidence Picks, Week 15 was 4-7, Week 16 was 4-5, and Week 17 was 2-5.
For the remainder of last season, we went 25-29 on Confidence Picks for a total of 90-87 on Confidence Picks for the entire season, a winning percentage of .508 compared to our overall winning percentage of .525.
In short, Confidence Picks made us a little worse, but in the long run (if such existed for this game) they'd probably run about the same.
I'm in.

I'm in.
Cool! I'm glad you're in, though I'm not sure what game you are referring to from a couple of years ago, I've only been here since May of last year.

It looks like 38 so far, thirty-nine if you count me, but I can't win. I think we could hit forty, but it's hard to tell. We might have a few players that just jump in the game absent sending me a confirmation PM since they weren't actually necessary. We still have about 150 invitations unopened, but I don't think too many of them will be opened, at this point.

You've been added, sorry about that. We're up to 39, now!

The Week 1 Lines for this 2013 WoV Picks Game can be found here:
https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gambling/sports/14893-wov-picks-game-2013-official-thread/#post266718
Please recall that the preferred formatting for your Picks is as follows:
Pick Format
I'm not really going to enforce this, but the thing that took me the most time last year was actually re-formatting the Picks when moving them to the results thread. It would be appreciated if Picks were formatted in a uniform way, so here is how I would strongly (but respectfully) prefer it:
1.) No Line Breaks
2.) For Spread picks, simply put the team nickname and the spread. (Ex: Bengals +5)
3.) For Over/Unders, simply put the team nickname for EITHER team, and the Over or Under amount. (Ex: Bengals OVER 25)
4.) To designate a Confidence Pick, simply put a hyphen and, "Confidence," after the pick. (Ex: Bengals OVER 25-Confidence)
So, a full set of picks might appear:
Patriots -15
Patriots OVER 52
Jaguars +12
Jaguars UNDER 42
Jets +4-Confidence
Positive Variance to all, and thanks again for playing!
Please remember that Picks are due via PM by 23:59 EST on Saturday, September 7th, 2013. There will be PM reminders sent out on the same day (the 7th) just after 0:01 EST, or possibly just before. If you have already made your Picks, it is possible that you will still receive a reminder because I'm lazy like that.
Finally, I'll usually confirm that I have received your picks by sending a return PM. If I somehow fail to do this, simply click on your Outbox and if the PM has been sent to me, you know you're good.
The reminder PM's for Week 1 Picks have now been sent out. All Picks should be made by 23:59 EST today, about 22.5 hours from now.
The first set of Picks for the 2013 WoV NFL Picks Game can be found here:
https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gambling/sports/14893-wov-picks-game-2013-official-thread/#post267486
There are 38 sets of Picks, with exception to my own. We had one player drop out (via PM to me) who is unable to play, but we gained a player in RStrata who submitted Picks. SteelDCo had already announced he will not be starting until Week 2, so that makes 39.
It looks like we are missing picks from Knuckleball3 and Jon, so I am going to double-check my PM's for those. If no such picks were made, then they will be able to do the same thing SteelDCo is doing and use Week 1 as a Skip Week. Again, Week 2 Picks will not be accepted from anyone who didn't either:
A.) Make Week One Picks
or
B.) Declare They Were Participating
Good luck everyone!
EDIT: I have confirmed that I received no Picks from Jon or Knuckleball3
EDIT (Again): Knuckleball3 has just submitted his Picks, so I'm going to allow them.
Pats 14 Bills 6 over 1
Titans 7 Steelers 8 over 2 under1
Falcons 1 Saints 8 over 2 under 1
Bucs 11 Jets 5 under 1
Chiefs 4 Jaguars 4 over 2 under 1
Bengals 12 Bears 3 over 2 under 2
Dolphins 2 Browns 11 over 1 under 2
Seahawks 9 Panthers 5
Vikings 5 Lions 2 over 3 under1
Raiders 2 Colts 10
Cards 7 Rams 1 over 5 under 1
Pack 7 49ers 5
Giants 13 Cowboys 3 over 1 under 1
Eagles 3 Skins 1 over 1 under 3
Texans 14 Chargers 3 over 1
Pats and Texans getting all the love. Browns Dolphins toss up but those here clearly think Browns favorite 11 to 2
Least love Falcons , Rams, and Skins.
Good luck everybody this afternoon
Quote: Mission146Greetings!
.
I'm just wondering if you ever melt lug wrenches. (Obscure movie reference - one of my old favorites. Name that movie!) The actor who spoke that line is an old friend from a previous life.
Awesome list, Terapined! I can actually use that to make determining the overall winning percentage much easier.
Quote: Mission146I'm afraid I have no idea what movie you mean.

Man, you get a star if you get the quote.

MAN, you get a STAR if you know this quote !
If you hit the line (like the Bears), do you get 1/2 a point?
I also would like to know what happens when you hit the line, as I did with the Bears.
And, no, Buzz, you're in for the long haul. Opening weekend's not even over!
Otherwise nothing out of the ordinary for a week 1 group of games.
Teams were rusty, and that seems to favor the dogs.
The "maN" had a great setup for over /unders. They jacked up the numbers assumng it will take time for defenses to catch up with the new offenses that no one has seen yet. To make things even better for the books, the first game in denver went way over. Putting people in the "over" mood.
As I mentioned in a past post.....the over this week does not look like a good bet.
hope you all did well
Just trying to save you some money Babs.
Quote: boymimboLast year, it counted as a no decision, and therefore, a no-bet, so you are scored out of 4 (or 5 if you made a confidence bet) instead of out of 5 (or 6).
I'm kind of hating that answer. That makes the weighting of all the others higher, without any compensation for the bet. But I don't claim to know what I'm talking about, either. I liked the idea of everybody who bet that game getting 1/2 credit since the scoring's over a season.
I took the Over for the Vikings/Lions and the Cards/Rams (the unanimous Over picks)
Then I took Miami (by 4 or more) and the Saints (by 4 or more), the two most unanimous picks (9-1 for the Saints, 12-2 for the Dolphins).
And I added my beloved Blue Jays to win over the hapless at home Minnesota twins.
$5 pays $105.10
Woot!
Quote: beachbumbabsOTOH, in my particular case this week it's an advantage, I guess.. .600 rather than .5833333. Is it to everyone's advantage?
There's no way to tell until the end of the season. The Rule will remain the same this year, and it is to the, "Advantage," of any player who finishes over .500 and to the, "Disadvantage," of any player who finishes under .500.
I basically decided on the No-Decision Rule because, when you're at a Sportsbook and have a Push, you neither win nor lose so are neither better nor worse off at the end. I wanted to keep that a constant for this game, so didn't want ND's to improve some and worsen others.
SWEET parlay! Congrats!
Mission,
Thanks for the clarification. Since it falls in my favor, I'll hush now. Even if it didn't, I'd hush, since there's precedent and continuity with real world rules. Love ya. Mean it. ;)
So now my strategy is to play the Point Spread and take the 4 most popular and definitive picks of the weeks and split them into 4 $5 bets combining 1-2-4, 1-2-3-, 1-2-4 and 1-3-4 which wins $80 ($25 x 4) if they all win and $5 if 3 of 4 ($20 x 1 - 15) are correct. Not great odds I know but I am relying on the pickers! That would have this week gotten me to choose 3 of 4 of the Saints (.900), Dolphins (.857), Colts (.833), and Texans (.824). 3 of the bets would have included the Colts and would have been losers.
This week, the majority who chose (with greater than 2/3rds) got the Pats, Bucs, Vikings, Colts, and Giants wrong while we got the Saints, Dolphins, and Cardinals right. Not a great opening week so far. Both unanimous overs (Vikings/Lions - 4 choosers, Cards/Rams - 5 choosers) won.
I also think you may have gotten the list mixed up on the Dolphins, you picked one of the greatest minorities there...most players who picked that game liked the Browns to win.
The Week 1 Partial Results have been posted here:
https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gambling/sports/14893-wov-picks-game-2013-official-thread/#post267819
That's going to be Edited later to include the MNF games, and then the records will be a separate post after that. It was easier to get started now, I'm always in a rush to get the results out there, although I don't know why because it's over two days until anything else happens.
I've also confirmed that Jon is playing, but forgot to get me his Picks, so is using Week 1 as a Skip Week. I think that puts us at 40 or 41, I guess 50 will have to wait for next year.
Denver.
You , of all people, should know better than to believe anything I post on here. Luckily being DUMB is not a suspend-able offense, or you might have to inflict a mea culpa time out for Mission 145.
