For those losers competing against Gracie Lynn, her picks are T-Rac, Chomps, Blitz, Miles, and the team with no mascot, just stupid looking people in the stands.

I'm pretty sure every NFL team has a mascot, so maybe she was looking over the baseball lines....

Chief Zee is often called the unofficial mascot of the Redskins, but he is no more a mascot than the barrel man was a Bronco mascot.

We have three players Skipping this week, so I'm going to go back to firing off PM's around 00:00 on Saturday if Picks are not in. I know that a number of you have told me the PM's are not necessary, but I doubt if I will remember which ones. I didn't send any PM's last week and nobody missed, so I figured we were good, sorry about that.

Greetings,

StrictlyAP got in his picks via IPhone at 8:30a.m., remembering that the new deadline is 00:00 on Sunday, I'm going to put this matter to a vote as to whether or not his picks will be allowed. The first two people to vote one way or another will have the decision.

I'm going to get back to PMing people around Saturday at 00:00 who have not picked yet (again, apologies if you have stated PM's are not needed) so the Picks wil be expected to be unfailingly timely from this point forward.

LOL

I'm not going to quibble over a minute, and sometimes, not even over an hour. The main thing is that the Picks will have to be in before I post everyone else's Picks, otherwise, someone can run what I term the, "What the leaders are NOT doing gambit," which is essentially to say that you simply pick games they don't have and hope to experience positive Variance while they experience negative Variance.

3-2 for me this Week which improves me to 14-15 for .483. That would be 8th out of 19 if my presence in the actual game were official.

Before The Wiz decides to bring it up, yes, all my dogs won and my two favorites lost!

We had a winning week as a group, but it still pulled us down overall. We went from 235-200 for a .540 to 279-241 (44-41), but that actually drops us to .537. If I am included, we went from 246-213 for .536 to 282-243 for .537, so my win isn't pulling us up any. Technically, it is, though, because it is a round-up in the former and a round-down in the latter.

Screwy week, but could have been worse, as a group. The two Picks with which I hd the most confidence were my losers...but then I always feel more confident picking favorites, going to have to get outside that paradigm!

NFL Dogs have done well this year but that does not happen every year. Things trend toward the mean at some point.

Anyone have long term stats on that?

I do bet a lot of NBA dogs though as that is the only sport I cap.

Guys,

1.) I have no idea whether or not he wants to jump back in, I have no idea where he has been or what he has been doing.

2.) BigPete88's suggestion is more generous than mine, if he wanted to jump back in I was going to put it to a league vote with the stipulation that he eat an 0-5 record for this week. I personally don't see where deferring 5 Picks to next week presents any great disadvantage.

I thought the rules were pretty straightforward. Everybody gets a week off if they want it. Miss a week after that, and you forfeit.

Allowing a player to jump back in would not be fair to the player who was already eliminated for missing a second week.

Agreed...if we let buzz back in we have to let anyone else who missed more than 1 week back in. Besides he seems missing from the forum. Hope all is well.

It cleans itself up pretty well, anyway. I would expect that he finishes with the best winning percentage, and if that is the case, despite being eliminated, he wouldn't actually owe anyone any money.

The way he was picking them, maybe he decided you guys just weren't presenting enough of a challenge...j/k

That could be why he's missing. He's started a "lockbox pick of the week" service, and is now charging thousands for his newsletter. The way he was tearing us up, I would think about paying... Not that I actually would..., but I would think about it.

As you know, I see all of you guys' picks prior to releasing my own, and I seriously considered a, "Copy BuzzPaff," strategy. I've also considered a, "Copy The Wiz," strategy, but then I decided that either would be too obvious. I just pick the lines I like when I post them (mentally) and I'll usually only end up changing one, but not based on anything anyone else did.

I agree.... As someone who was just recently involved in setting rules for and arbitrating a weighty internet bet, the rules are the rules! My bet was made under a certain set of rules, and is set in stone. If you want to start a new bet, that is fine, but the one I signed up for has you out if you miss two weeks. It wasn't to be put up for a vote. I actually thought from the beginning that the bet would become unwieldly, and exactly predicted that something like this would happen.

For me personally the dollar amount I will end up owing someone will be low enough that I really won't care, but a bet is a bet!

Greetings!

The Week 7 Results have been posted:

https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gambling/sports/11221-wov-picks-game-official-thread/6/#post191905

I had the positive Variance of a 4-1 Week putting me back over .500 to 18-16 for .529. Including those who were eliminated, I would be 7th out of 19.

The Variance of the group, however, was not as positive. The group went from 279-241 for .537 to 320-290 (41-49) for .525 given this bad week. If I am included, then we went from 282-243 for .537, to 338-306 (45-50) for .525, so my presence makes no difference to the overall.

We would still have to have sixteen less wins (hence sixteen more losses) to be at .500, so we're still picking some good football as a group. I want to be the first to say that not having BuzzPaff hurts, though.

I experienced more positive Variance and have now strung together back-to-back 4-1 Weeks. I could have kicked myself in the @$$ for that SF/ARZ Over pick, though. I was going to take NE -7, decided against it, and couldn't find any other Line I liked. The Week would move me to 22-17 for .564. Including those who have been eliminated, I would be in Fourth Place out of 19.

The group largely had an okay Week. The group went from 320-290 for .525 to 365-333 (45-43) for .523, it could have been worse. If I am included, then we went from 338-306 for .525 to 387-350 (49-44) which would keep us at .525.

1.) We could do that, but BeardGoat would need to be removed, as well.

2.) The people who are eliminated are still expected to pay, so I could simply repost the Standings and just put a section on the bottom with people who are Eliminated, if you want to do it that way.

Wizard is 19 games over .500 with 9 weeks to go. Very impressive.

What if Wizard picks BOTH SIDES of 2 games each week? Maybe around key numbers of 3 or 7. Doing so would produce a record of 18-18, or 16-16-4 assuming 2 games push.

He would still need one “real pick” each week. Let's assume the real picks finish 5-4. The remaining single game could also be assigned the confidence pick tag.

This strategy would produce a season record of 52-32-4; 61.9%, or 54-34; 61.4%.

Either record would certainly beat everyone, with the possible exception of Vendman1.

Strategically, The Wiz still has a Skip Week he can use, but self-cancelling picks are not going to be acceptable. The Rules state that one must make five Picks each week, and two (or four?) self-negating Picks are essentially the same thing as just making one Pick, so no, not acceptable. In fact, one of our players accidentally double-picked a game, though he picked the same Line, and I sent him a PM asking him to change it and Pick a Fifth Game, but he could make the game he double-picked Confidence if he wanted to, so there is precedent for not allowing duplicate or self-cancelling picks.

It's excellent for The Wiz that my presence is not official, this is the time of the season where I get nasty!!! Unless I have a bad week this week, then just forget I said that!

I should also mention, and not to take away anything from Wiz, but he is essentially 9.5 games over .500, not 19 games, given that if they were not wins, then they would be losses.

I also want to say that we are just slightly under halfway through this thing, so everyone still has a shot. If the first part of the season were to happen in reverse, then you have JohnZimbo and The Wiz tied for first place. It's kind of like people who give up on their team at halftime, I always say, "If they built up that 28 point lead in two quarters, then that 28 point lead can be eviscerated in two quarters, too!"

I've got a bad overall feeling about my picks this week, but I had the same bad feeling last week when I went 4-1, so maybe a bad feeling is a good thing.

So this is your 'off' week. I plan on getting together with some other key forum members, getting you too drunk to remember, and having you miss a second week to disqualify you. I will be using women to help me accomplish this task. Beware!!!!! (See you in 10 days.....)
