I'd never heard of this guy and his crew of mobbed-up slot cheats.

A large crew but all the associates were getting chicken feed and were doing other crimes that made them vulnerable... a sure method for turning disgruntled coworkers into informers.

Just look at the first link... the prize winner was the capo's daughter. Why didn't they use a more distant beard? Why didn't he put a time delay into the chip and use fewer low level helpers.

Greedy and dumb with people... good with locks and computer chips.

He ain't no master mind!!

Masterminds was a good show. Actually, that show illustrated that crooks are sometimes pure genius in one aspect of their work and dumb as dirt otherwise. It was often the case that some theft would be brilliantly executed except that they all get caught the next day because the plan to get away was so stupid.

The perfect crime may have already been committed and we don't even know about it. Why? Because the perfect crime is committed one time, for a huge profit, with the criminal able to walk away and never do it again....

The problem is there is no such thing as a perfect crime. Mostly because the criminal can NEVER walk away from doing it again and greed gets the better of them.

and greed gets the better of them.

More likely greed gets the better of his partners or his girlfriends.

Years ago I heard an FBI guy say if you were going
to commit a crime, make it big and don't have a
record. Do it once and walk away. Done right, there's
a good chance you'll never get caught.

I could see that. It seems that the majority of bank robbers upon whom I have watched documentaries did it more than once and ended up getting busted due to arrogance. In the majority of those limited bank robberies, at least, it doesn't seem that they would have had an ice cube's chance in Hell of catching the guy if he had stopped at just one...or five.
