It still blows my mind that they had a semi successful thing going, that they could have continued to grow an audience with, or in the worst case scenario could have sold the channel to someone that valued her audience. They did none of that.

It seems to happen often.
A creator grows a following. They change something (possibly based on "good advice"), in hopes of growing more.
The following they had loses interest, because now the creator is too similar to (other creator). The new following they hoped to attract doesn't appear, possibly because of The Algorithm not suggesting the content, because it's not getting enough engagement (monetizable ad-views).
