I don't like playing craps when there are only two or three players at the table (and have found myself in situations where I was the only shooter). At what times of day/night do the tables tend to gather crowds?

Varies. Thats why some smaller casinos don't even open a craps table in the mornings.

One thing to consider is that aside from personal preferences as to an empty table, a full table or a half full table, the player is ALWAYS playing at the computerized comp rate, no matter what the actual rate of play is. So if a player is the only one at the craps table, the player is risking his bank roll at a high rate of hands per hour but is being comped only at the standard rate for all craps tables.

Blackjack, MiniBacc...its all the same.

So playing at a very crowded table can be an advantage in that the player is at a good comp rate despite the play being slower than the average value thats in the computer already.

Now it does vary. I've gone down to a craps table for a pre-breakfast whack at the dice and seen shooters that I remember from prior to midnight and the table will be half full when it might normally be either empty or at the 2-3 level. Casinos often adjust the number of tables that are open and some casinos adjust the number of craps dealers assigned to a table. On a weekday ( which usually means Mon-Thursday) I've seen craps tables start to come alive somewhere from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. Yet, even on a weekday, I've seen craps tables be jammed up at 2:00pm. I still like to start playing early but I've sometimes gone from being the only player at 7:00am to a mostly full table by 11:00am. On a weekend (which usually means Friday, Saturday, Sunday) most casinos are braced for action early. Tables may be opened early, schedules may be adjusted, limits will be adjusted. Even if Friday morning is light, by noontime Friday craps tables generally get full no matter what grumbling there may be about limits. Certainly by Friday evening, craps tables tend to be jammed up.

Usually after dinner until midnight is consistently the busiest.
