I was playing craps at a casino on Fremont street. I have no idea which one. Do those casinos even have names? They all seem like the same one....

Anyway, the dealer that barely spoke English was giving me crap about some terminology. Admittedly, I have learned the game in casinos, not in books.

So I have some questions.

Lay 10 and No 10 are different bets on the Shoot To Win Craps machine - but both work in the casino as a Lay bet. What is the opposite of a place bet on the 10 then? No 10 correct? Lay 10 is the opposite of a Buy 10?

Next, if I play the don't come, and then want to put the odds after the money travels (lets say to a 5), what is the CORRECT term for those odds? This is what the dealer was giving me crap for.

Odds on the no 5? Lay odds on my no 5? Odds on my 5?

I don't remember what I was saying...but it was apparently wrong.

I think the dealer was giving me crap because the guy playing next to me forgot to pick up his pass line win (he was talking or something) and the next roll came and he lost both chips. He started to complain and I defended him (because I was unaware the casino allowed you to play two pass line bets which he effectively did on that role inadvertently).

Odds on my 5 .... You have a DontCome that travelled to the 5 and you are now LAYING the true odds .
Odds on my 5..... You made a Come Bet that travelled to the 5 and you are now TAKING the true odds.

But each way its "odds on my 5".... he positions it based on where you are standing. WATCH HIM.

Don't get involved in fights with other players.. it hurts your reputation. Never helps.

In the US, Lay 10 and No 10 mean the same thing, which is Lay 10. The opposite of a place 10 is a "place to lose 10" but is not offered in the vast majority of casinos.

I always say "lay on the 5" and never have a problem. If you wait a few rolls between the DC travelling to the 5 and wanting to lay your odds, the dealer may be confused, but if you are laying odds immediately after it travels the dealer should know what you mean regardless of what you say.

A decent dealer will say "if it lays, it plays!" as a reminder to pick up your winnings.

A lot of the craps dealers downtown are curmudgeons who will give you grief over every last thing if they don't have a reason to like you (giving a lot of tips, buxom young lady in a low cut top, etc.)
