Many people have varying definitions of a "Monster Roll" in Craps.

What is your definition of a "Monster Roll"?

I would say off hand for me it is a roll that lasts for at least 30 minutes.

However, any roll where I make more than a couple of Gs would probably make me say it was a monster roll too. So, someone who hit a number of points when I was betting heavy would probably have a 'monster roll' even if it was only 15-20 minutes long.

Personally, I have had 2 rolls that went 20-30 minutes (estimated, but in range because I went through 2 stick changes), and I had one 'monster roll' of 1 hour 10 min. that was measured, because my friend made a comment about how long he had just rolled, and he had checked his watch before I started.

Not sure if I like the concept of how long a roll lasted to determine a monster roll. What I mean by this is that if you have a full table, slow dealers, or slow players, just throwing the dice could take forever.

For example, go to the California Hotel where all the Hawaiians play. Most of the shooters take forever to set the dice. There is also a lot of action with tons of different bets going on at once. The dice moves very slowly. A 30 minute roll there would be like a 12 to 15 minute roll anywhere else.

As I understand it: a roll lasting an hour or more.

Although time is a factor, I don't measure "monsters" by time alone.

After a shooter makes a point, I typically place the 6 & 8 for $12 each and press them slowly. If I had been up, and the shooter "looks like he's a shooter..." I may also place the 5 & 9 for $10.

A "damn good roll" would be where I had pressed my bets up so that I had over $100 in action (lost) when he finally sevens out.

A "monster roll" would mean I lost over $200 when he sevens out.

The best I ever had was over $400. As luck would have it, the wife had come to the table the roll before and was counting my chips - not the ones in the rail, but the ones on the felt (She DOES understand the chip position thing). Shooter sevens and she starts moaning about how much I just lost. I told her that I'd be happy to lose $400 like that any day of the week, and then pointed to my stack in the rail. She shut up and got happy real quick!

Anytime a shooter gets 10 or so passes, that's pretty cool. Rare enough.

measuring it that way, 20 passes is monster territory. IMO.

Excellent Responses!

My definition of a Monster Roll used to be 45 minutes or more however I now realize that a 45 minute roll with 3 players compared to a FULL TABLE are two completely different rolls. Additionally, the amount of Points Hit/ Box #'s thrown/Hardways thrown is more important for my betting pattern. For others, the bottom line to a "Monster Roll" is the amount of money won during the roll.

Listed below are some events that occurred in some of my recent Craps sessions, which do you consider Monster Rolls?

1. A player who bets $10 World/Whirl and hits 11,2,12,3 and presses aggressively and takes down $2,000 after the 4th hit.

2. 45 Minute Roll (FULL TABLE) which included 6 Points Made, Estimated 8 Hardways, decent amount of Box #'s.

3. 45 Minute Roll (FULL TABLE) which included 6 Points Made, Estimated 20 hits on the (6&8).

4. 45 Minute Roll ( FULL TABLE) which included 9 Points Made, lots of junk #'s (Horns not during the comeout roll), practically Zero Box #'s (Non-Points).

In the midst of the craps sessions, I only considered Shooter #2 & #3 as being on Monster Rolls because they "felt" like Monster Rolls. Shooter #4 hit the most Points (9) but threw so many junk #'s during the game (Horns) and had the dice flying off the table so many times that it felt like a sporadic shooter.

Shooter #4 also hit the Points too "fast". Not complaining, but I love shooters who hit lots of repeating Box #'s before hitting the established point, this allows me to increase my Pass Line odds with the profit made from box #'s that I bet from profits utilizing Come/Place Bets. The Casino has 100X Odds however I feel very uncomfortable betting more than 5X Odds initially on a shooter. A player that hits lots of Box #'s "allows" me to increase my Pass Line Odds to 10X which is currently my Max comfort level.

Monster Rolls in Craps vary by different definitions but is definitely (for me) the greatest gambling related experience in the world!

Keep all those "Monster Rolls" coming.....

Roll a six, lay your 10x, buy your 4589 and 10, then seven out. That's a monstrosity! And it happens all the time!

Anytime the Black chips out-number the red chips at a $5 minimum. Gotta be a Monster.
Some people need to reimagine their thinking.

As a flee that usually only buys in for $100 a monster roll for me is when I have no more room in the tray and the chips are all green, black or better. Sadly I can count on my fingers the number of times that has happened. Sigh

I would say a monster roll is 10 times your buy in. I've played craps probably 50 times in my 7 years of legal gambling and I would say ive experienced very good rolls probably 3 times and 2 monster rolls. The best run I have been at a table for I bought in with 80 bucks to just screw around and cashed out what my inner circle calls the TDC ..... Thousand dollar chip....
